New species of Late Jurassic Australobuchia (Bivalvia) from the Murihiku Terrane,Port Waikato—Kawhia region,New Zealand

The Early Cretaceous Otway and Strzelecki Groups exposed on the southern coast of Victoria, Australia, have produced a fauna of dinosaurs that lived within the Antarctic Circle. As many as five or six species of hypsilophodontids numerically dominate the collections from there, but the rarer and more fragmentary theropod remains suggest a surprising diversity of carnivorous dinosaurs. A possible surangular and an isolated vertebra have characters considered diagnostic for Late Cretaceous oviraptorosaurs of the Northern Hemisphere. Other fossils suggest the presence of ornithomimosaurs, dromaeosaurids and neoceratopsians, and with the possible oviraptorosaur remains, challenge the widespread assumption that these animals originated on the northern continents.     

Getting the Job Done: Resolving State- Federal Conflicts in Superfund

The American system of federalism creates frequent opportunities for clashes between state and federal environmental regulators. State and federal environmental laws overlap but are not easily reconciled. Most federal environmental law provides no clear answer as to how to reconcile differing mandates of state and federal environmental regulators. In this article, we will examine these state-federal conflicts as they played out in 1994 in, the cleanup of contaminated sites in the state of Washington. This article describes the way a regional office of the Environmental Protection Agency and the state's Department of Ecology developed a novel approach to managing the essential tension between overlapping state and federal cleanup laws.

农村居民点用地整治潜力测算研究——以广东省五华县为例

以广东省五华县为例,以行政村为单元,在政策指标测算法的基础上,从自然环境状况、经济保障能力和社会因素等3方面构建理论潜力修正模型,将理论潜力修正为可实现潜力,并根据土地适宜性评价估算增加耕地潜力,以期为科学编制农村土地整治规划提供依据。研究表明,五华县农村居民点用地布局分散、规模小、空间差异显著,呈现出沿河谷、沿交通线路分布的典型特征。到2020年,农村居民点整治理论潜力为5683.91 hm²,北部村庄的整治潜力较大;可实现潜力修正系数为0.54,与理论潜力相差较大,各行政村之间差异明显;新增耕地潜力系数介于0.32-0.94,预计新增耕地1943.41 hm²,琴江、五华河沿线村庄的新增耕地潜力较大。建议实施差别化的农村居民点整治对策,推进五华县农村土地整治。     

三维视域下的国外地方依恋研究述评

地方依恋一直是国外心理学、社会学、地理学等领域的研究热点。以地方依恋三维结构理论为研究基础,以环境心理学为研究视角,以地方依恋的三维结构释义、三维情境整合及三维形成机制分析为研究主线,对相关理论进行梳理。对国外地方依恋文献的总结一方面能丰富国内相关研究的理论基础,另一方面也能扩宽相应的研究范围。通过本文以期为该领域的研究者提供一个多维的视角。     

Sequential, Bayesian Geostatistics: A Principled Method for Large Data Sets

The principled statistical application of Gaussian random field models used in geostatistics has historically been limited to data sets of a small size. This limitation is imposed by the requirement to store and invert the covariance matrix of all the samples to obtain a predictive distribution at unsampled locations, or to use likelihood-based covariance estimation. Various ad hoc approaches to solve this problem have been adopted, such as selecting a neighborhood region and/or a small number of observations to use in the kriging process, but these have no sound theoretical basis and it is unclear what information is being lost. In this article, we present a Bayesian method for estimating the posterior mean and covariance structures of a Gaussian random field using a sequential estimation algorithm. By imposing sparsity in a well-defined framework, the algorithm retains a subset of " basis vectors " that best represent the " true " posterior Gaussian random field model in the relative entropy sense. This allows a principled treatment of Gaussian random field models on very large data sets. The method is particularly appropriate when the Gaussian random field model is regarded as a latent variable model, which may be nonlinearly related to the observations. We show the application of the sequential, sparse Bayesian estimation in Gaussian random field models and discuss its merits and drawbacks.

Searching for Yiong Tibetan Knifes

Ten Hours＇ Road Travel for Only Fifty-Five Kilometers Staff from the Information Office of Pome County informed us that Yiong Town produced a special Tibetan knife. This kind of knife has beautiful color patterns zigzagging along the edge of the knife. Therefore, the knife is also referred to as the ＂rainbow knife＂. It is handmade in a tradition inherited from local ancestors several generations ago. It can be referred to as a Yiong specialty. Desiring to have a look, we decided to drive to Yiong. Although staff from the Information Office of Pome County tried several times to make a phone call via satellite, there was no response which meant no guide or interpreter to lead us, so we had to be selfsufficient. Nevertheless, the attraction of such a fascinating knife lured a team of photographers consisting of five persons to set off together to search for the rainbow knife.
