Detailed archaeozoological studies of Middle and Early Upper Palaeolithic (250–40 kya) faunal assemblages from Tabun, Skhul and el‐Wad caves, located in Mount Carmel (Israel), are presented here, expanding on the previous palaeontological analyses carried out by Garrod and Bate in the 1930´s and by Garrard five decades later. Despite the well‐known excavation bias of the older excavations, this study makes greater use of modern taphonomic techniques and statistical procedures, providing new palaeoeconomic insights into the subsistence behaviour of modern humans, Neanderthals and their predecessors in the Levant. The results show that anatomically modern humans (AMH) were more efficient at hunting and foraging in terms of human mobility as well as an incipient prey specialisation. In addition, different uses of the Tabun cave through time have been identified. Tabun B, initially considered as a palaeontological accumulation, was also occasionally accessed by Neanderthals in order to exploit naturally trapped ungulates, and there were sporadic and logistic occupations in Tabun D, one of the oldest Middle Palaeolithic assemblages in the area. Contrastingly, Tabun C showed a comparatively more residential use, which coincided with the new mobility capabilities of AMH. Whereas the intensity of human occupation at el‐Wad varied through time, levels G and F showed very brief occupations in comparison with levels D and E, which showed abundant evidence of human activity. As part of a larger project promoting the development of historical dendrochronology in the Iberian Peninsula, ship‐timbers from the Arade 1 wreck (mostly planking and framing elements), stored at the DANS/IGESPAR in Lisbon, were examined. Of these, 52 samples were identified as deciduous oak (Quercus subg. quercus) and two as chestnut (Castanea sativa). Of 24 timbers selected for dendrochronological research, 23 could be dated, placing the origin of the wood in western France and the felling of trees between AD 1579 and 1583. Their homogeneity suggests they are part of the original construction, which probably took place shortly after AD 1583. © 2012 The Authors 相似文献

本文以北京明、清典型官式琉璃构件的黄釉为研究对象,利用EDXRF分析了釉料的化学组成,结合文献记载初步研究了北京明清官式琉璃构件釉料的变化规律。研究结果表明,明清琉璃黄釉的主要元素(硅、铅、铝、铁)含量在一定范围内稍有波动,氧化铅含量有逐渐降低的趋势。此外,明清釉料中氧化铝含量变化大体经历了由低到高,再由高到低的过程。从氧化铁的变化趋势来看,明代的釉料大体稳定,而清代则经历了由低到高的过程。这表明古代琉璃釉料的配方并非墨守成规、因循守旧,而是受技术进步、窑炉、政治经济等级审美观念的多重影响,古代匠人在不断的摸索中改进配方。 相似文献

Herein, Talbragarocossus jurassicus Chen, Beattie & Wang gen. et sp. nov., one of the earliest representatives of ‘late’ Palaeontinidae, is described and illustrated from the Upper Jurassic Talbragar Fossil Fish Bed in New South Wales, Australia. ISSN 0311–5518.A fusuline fauna consisting of ten species in five genera from the Qudi Formation of the Jiaomuri and Gangtangcuo sections in the Rongma area, northern Tibet, is described. This fauna contains a few typical Peri-Gondwanan fusuline species such as Pseudofusulina pamirensis, Neodutkevitchia insignis and N. sp. cf. N. tumidiscula. The fauna is dated as Artinskian based on the presence of both genera Chalaroschwagerina and Praeskinnerella. The Peri-Gondwanan fusuline fauna in the Qiangtang Block is grouped palaeobiogeographically into the Southern Transitional Zone, which is located in the southern part of the Peri-Gondwanan blocks during the late Sakmarian and Artinskian. This paper is a comparison between two books, each dealing with the history of a different rural community in Northern Norway. These are Fjordfolket i Kvænangen and Balsfjorden og Malangens historie (Volume 1) written by the social anthropologist Ivar Bjørklund and the historian Anders Ole Hauglid respectively. In this comparison, two main points are emphasized: (1) To what extent can knowledge about ethnic processes of categorization, which has been acquired through contemporary research in the social sciences, be of use in the writing of the history of minorities?
