When assessing social change in modern Korea, the tremendous material transformation of the second half of the twentieth century has tended to obscure the advances of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. This article examines the distinctive means by which both nation building and state making contributed to the formation of Korea's modern social structure well before the full advent of industrialisation and urbanisation. It argues that the processes of national identity formation, particularly in the absence of an autonomous state during the period of Japanese colonial rule (1910–45), drew from multiple stimuli, including religion, class and a recognition of the urgency of social levelling. The state, meanwhile, followed different developmental paths in its institutional and ideological manifestations, but in both instances, the contributions of Koreans themselves to the process, even during the colonial period, placed a lasting imprint on the state's relationship to modern social change. The legacy of this connection continues to shape how Koreans perceive both their present and their past. 相似文献

Using four indicators of government activity, we identify a number of policy innovations in WA under the Burke government We argue that this government's policies are distinct in some measure both from those of its Liberal predecessors and from the aims of the WA Labor Party prior to the Burke leadership.
Comparison with other Australian states suggests though that these policies are broadly compatible with directions taken under other Labor administrations and distinct from those of non‐Labor administrations. There have been few studies of spatialized discourse within contemporary healthcare policy-making. This paper addresses this omission, focusing on the governmental presentation of the little-studied measures that consolidated the post-1989 reforms of the NHS in England and Wales, and culminated in the Health Authorities Act 1995. A short section places these measures in context and outlines their main components. An analysis of key documents and parliamentary exchanges is then used to show how spatialized language was central to the presentation of policy and its debate in parliament. In particular, the paper demonstrates how nuanced conceptions of space- and territorially-led service management provide a flexible basis for presenting notions of power and control. This 'spatio-linguistic strategy' is located theoretically within the concept of governmentality. 相似文献
