A Resource Model of Computer-Mediated Political Life

Using Current Population Survey data, this paper examines the extent to which a person's resources impact his or her ability to participate in computer-mediated political life. Resources such as universal literacy, background capacities, skills, and training clarify the well-documented but poorly conceptualized gap in technology access between "haves" and "have nots." Telecommunications policy does not address seriously the resources one brings to the table beyond perfunctory attention to what is affordable. Until resource disparities are examined more closely by policymakers, the divide in access to the computer-mediated political public sphere likely will continue to expand.

Die Studie versucht, das Frauenbild der röm. Elegiker (Properz, Tibull, Ovid) als literarisches Phänomen in seiner Distanz und Nähe zur gesellschaftlichen Realität Roms darzulegen. Ausgehend von der Erkenntnis, daß die Rolle der puella als topisches Element literarischer Fiktion keinesfalls unmittelbar auf die röm. Wirklichkeit übertragen werden darf, andererseits aber die intensive Auseinandersetzung mit den Geschlechterrollen auf eine Umbruchszeit schließen läßt, kommt die Verf. zum Ergebnis, daß es den Elegikern ‐ allen voran Properz ‐ primär um eine provokative Neudefinition des männlichen Selbstverständnisses aus vorwiegend politischen Motiven geht. Im Frauenbild zeigt sich vor allem bei Properz und Tibull dagegen ein unter der Oberfläche elegischer Dominanz der Frau unvermutetes Festhalten an den traditionellen Idealen von pudicitia und fides, wenn auch deutlich wird, daß das stilisierte Bild der matrona mit der röm. Realität zunehmend unvereinbar ist. Erst Ovid entlarvt die tatsächliche Entfernung der Gesellschaft von ihren alten Werten, indem er aus der gewählten erotischen Perspektive die casta matrona selbst als puella fallax zu erkennen gibt.     

Wie grün wünscht sich die Bevölkerung Deutschlands ihre Städte?

Green areas are of high importance for the population in Germany. This is demonstrated by the representative outcomes of the latest Awareness-of-Nature survey for 2015. Most interviewees do not only value urban greens as personally important but also state that they perceive them as crucial for society and environment. The article focuses especially on the perception by people from different age groups and levels of education. It highlights that the strong awareness of the population provides a good fundament for the objectives and strategies of social, environmental and nature conservation policies.     

Die aramäisch/hebräisch-sabäische Grabinschrift der Lea

Im Frühjahrsheft von Leŝonenu 2003 hat J. Naveh ( 1 ) eine Grabinschrift (Fig. 1) publiziert, die für die Geschichte des Judentums im spätantiken Südarabien von einzigartiger Bedeutung ist. Es handelt sich um eine zweisprachige Inschrift, deren erster Text in Aramäisch und Hebräisch abgefaßt ist, der zweite aber in Sabäisch. Obwohl sich die Verstorbene namens Lea, Tochter des Yehuda, nicht explizit als Sabäerin zu erkennen gibt, kann die Verwendung des Sabäischen doch nur in diesem Sinne gedeutet werden. Es handelt sich bei diesem Fund nicht nur um die erste echte aram./hebr.-sab. Bilingue ( 2 ) sondern zugleich auch um die erste Grabinschrift aus der spätsabäisch-monotheistischen Periode überhaupt.
  Die Herkunft des Steins ist unbekannt, vermutlich stammt er aus Israel. Der paläographische Befund sowohl der aram./hebr. als auch der sab. Version deutet auf eine Datierung ins frühe 5. Jhd. n. Chr.
  Die Verfasser legen hiermit eine neue, kommentierte Bearbeitung vor, wobei G. Wilhelm Nebe den Abschnitt A verfaßt hat und Alexander Sima den Abschnitt B.     

An overview of Caribbean and Latin-American cultural heritage studies

Abstract

This review analyzes, through three recently published books that talk about cultural heritage in Latin America, how the Cultural Heritage Studies have allowed us to understand the current situation in the region characterized by the growing tendency to promote declarations of heritage as part of a plan for the use of culture as a resource for sustainable development. Likewise, those books analyze how responses from local communities are generated to hegemonic definitions of heritage, which indicates that cultural heritage in Latin America is not something given but something in constant construction and dispute.
