CAREERS FOR GEOGRAPHERS: THE CASE OF ONTARIO 1953 TO 1972

T he employment prospects for graduates in different disciplines have recently been the focus of attention for many pessimists.¹ Surveys relating to this problem have been made in a number of countries over the past few years.² In Canada, the Canadian Association of Geographers established a Careers Committee in 1970, under the chairmanship of Professor R. Paquette. The initial task of the committee was to survey the fields of employment into which graduates have moved in the past.     

Australian cabinet structure and procedures: The Labor government 1972–1975

This paper discusses the Whitlam government's procedures for handling cabinet material. In order to place these procedures in context reference is also made to the structure and working of cabinet and to the role of the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet. It is a central assumption of the paper that the rules, procedures and structures for the handling of cabinet business all require careful understanding by the participants of the times and can be adjusted and made workable in a variety of ways. In this process the preferences and style of the prime minister are critical. He has more resources than any of his colleagues. The experience of the Whitlam government illustrates these propositions.
