Agamben,Postcoloniality, and Sovereignty in South Korea

This paper examines modern Korean politics through the framework of Giorgio Agamben's theories of sovereign power, bare life, and the state of exception. Though his political analysis draws from the European history, we contend that the nature of his method attests to the possibility of analogical examples in non‐Western places. Thus, we argue that a postcolonial encounter with Agamben may enrich our understanding of sovereignty and political geography. In the Korean context, such an analysis needs to consider that sovereign power has been shaped by the itineraries of colonialism and empire. Korea's political space is deeply marked by the legacy of Japanese colonialism, the imperial interventions by the U.S., and the division of the peninsula. Thus, Korea offers a valuable lens through which to read Agamben's critique of sovereignty. Our paper offers such a reading to argue that a state of exception functions as the underlying nomos for postcolonial Korea.     

Estimating the number of components in an OSL decay curve using the Bayesian Information Criterion

The optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) decay curve is assumed to consist of a number of first-order exponential components. Improper estimation of the number of components leads to under-or over-fitting of the curve under consideration. Hence, correct estimation of the number of components is important to accurately analyze an OSL decay curve. In this study, we investigated the possibility of using the Bayesian Information Criterion to estimate the optimal number of components in an OSL decay curve. We tested the reliability of this method using several hundred measured decay curves and three simulation scenarios. Our results demonstrate that the quality of the identification can be influenced by several factors: the measurement time and the number of channels; the variability of the decay constants; and the signal-to-noise ratios of a decaying component. The results also suggest that the Bayesian Information Criterion has great potential to estimate the number of components in an OSL decay curve with a moderate to high signal-to-noise ratio.     

百年来甲骨文材料统计

甲骨文自1899年发现以来已有百余年,那么甲骨文材料究竟有多少?以往统计主要有两种说法:一种认为有10万片,另一种认为有15万片。统计数字的不同源于统计方法和认识上的不同,因此必须采取较科学的统计方法,才能得出较科学的统计结果。本文以国内外公私机构现藏甲骨实际数量为统计对象,在胡厚宣先生的统计基础上,结合最近发表的各种著作文章,最后统计出百年来甲骨文材料有13万片左右。     

《析津志辑佚》中的有关问题

《析津志》是一部记述元代北京及北京地区历史的方志类史书,由元末熊梦祥撰写,原书早已亡佚,自上世纪三十年代以来,北京图书馆古籍善本组工作人员经过几十年的搜集整理,编成《析津志辑佚》一书,1983年由北京古籍出版社出版发行,2001年重印.

《四库全书》是中国文化史上一项规模宏大的文化工程,该工程自乾隆三十七年(1772)高宗皇帝下旨徵书至四十六年(1781)第一部文渊阁《四库全书》缮写告竣,前后历时9年,至四库七部书全部缮写装潢庋藏完毕,则已到了嘉庆九年(1804),历时32年.     

汉文化对吐鲁番地区少数民族的影响——基于对《吐鲁番出土文书》中容量单位的考察

吐鲁番是一个多民族聚居、多种文化交汇的地区。本文根据《吐鲁番出土文书》和山田信夫刊布的回鹘文文书的记载,从容量单位的角度探讨汉文化对该地区少数民族经济生活的深远影响。     

重视乡镇志的开发与利用

乡镇志是记载乡镇当时的历史、文化、经济的重要文献载体,是明清江浙等地经济文化兴盛时期的特殊产物,因其体例等有别于官修志书,所蕴藏的大量人文经济史料,更具地域特色。然而长期以来,乡镇志未受到研究者的重视与利用。鉴于其潜在的资料文献价值,本文认为必须重视乡镇志的开发与利用,系统发掘其内在的人文、经济资源价值。

晚清知识层存在明显风尚差异,概括起来就是“锢蔽者自锢蔽,开通者自开通”.传统士人和新知识分子在相同的时代背景下表现出两种截然不同的话语体系,其差异的产生概因商品经济发展的不同步、风尚地域差异的存在、与西方文化的亲疏、新旧职业的影响、新知与旧学的结构不同而不同.知识层的风尚差异造成统治阶层的分化和一部分知识分子的边缘化,其影响一直持续到民国年间.
