In April 1986 housing finance allocation procedures were deregulated. The impact of this decision on levels of finance borrowed by households was assessed for 2562 buyers of houses and home units in the Adelaide Statistical Division during May and June 1986. Sales price and mortgage data suggest two tendencies influencing the relationship between price and mortgage. Firstly, low price purchasers have small deposits and borrow heavily to effect their purchase. Secondly, high price buyers, with large deposits, are nevertheless taking out large loans to finance housing. Levels of gearing show market socio-economic bias, low cost buyers being more likely to be overcommitted.  相似文献

Before World War II, many immigrant workers in North America lived in industrial and residential suburbs. The early history of a residential suburbo of Toronto, Ontario, shows that, initially, homes were modest and public services were absent. Men worked long hours, commuted far and built the family home. Women strove hard to keep house and raise a family in unserviced homes. Children helped out, and played in the accessible bush. Self-provisioning was common, and early opportunities to acquire homes and establish businesses were good. Community-building created a strong neighbourhood identity. At first, settlers felt loyal to Britain, compared their experience with the situation back home, and concluded that Canada was 'all right. The Depression brought working-class loyalities to the fore and prompted many to become more critical of the Canadian status quo. This story raises questions about the nature of the immigrant working-class experience in North American cities in the early twentieth century.  相似文献

The three dimensional pounding phenomenon of two adjacent buildings during earthquakes with aligned rigid horizontal diaphragms is investigated for the linear and nonlinear structural response. The developed formulation takes into account three dimensional dynamic contact conditions for the velocities and accelerations based on the impulse-momentum relationship, using the coefficient of restitution e and the ratio μ, of tangential to normal impulses, which corresponds to the coefficient of friction under certain conditions. The contact points are determined geometrically from the displacements of the diaphragms' centre of mass. The results of the proposed formulation are compared with those obtained with the Lagrange multipliers approach. Test results are performed for two sets of multi-storey adjacent buildings subjected to real earth-quake motions with elastic and inelastic structural response.  相似文献

Raw material availability has been shown to be a major factor affecting the material culture of Oldowan tool users. Studies of artefact provenance often focus on site‐specific raw material availability. Here, we use data from primary and secondary sources of raw material to develop a model of basin‐scale stone availability in the eastern Turkana Basin, during the KBS and Okote Members of the Koobi Fora Formation. ED‐XRF was used as a method of characterizing raw material sources and artefacts using trace elements. This model is applied to the site of FxJj 50 to investigate transport and discard patterns.  相似文献

Summary.   By exploring an Early Neolithic site this paper demonstrates how landscapes are constituted from connected places and, in turn, how places are constituted by materials. The paper aims to develop an approach that acknowledges the role of memory and emotion within this, and posits that these factors are crucial to how senses of place and community were formed in this period. By considering memory and emotion the paper demonstrates their centrality to any human experience of landscape.  相似文献
