云南少数民族服饰景观地域特征探析

少数民族服饰作为民族文化的重要组成部分,是非语言文化交流的途径之一,在传统文化的保持和传承方面起着重要的作用。本文分析了地理环境对云南少数民族服饰的影响、少数民族服饰景观的地域类型、特征及时空变异。认为民族服饰是最具有吸引力的旅游景观之一,在民族传统文化的开发和利用中应当给予高度重视。     

Wartime everydayness: beyond the battlefield in China’s Second World War

ABSTRACT

This article suggests that the study of the War of Resistance against Japanese aggression should pay due attention to the effect of the war on the wartime everyday, that is, on Chinese culture, politics, society, and the economy away from the battlefield. Not only was the impact deep and enduring, but evolving, regionally and socially divergent responses to the war also shaped the war’s military. In modern war, as Karl von Clausewitz pointed out, public morale is a key factor in deciding the outcome of the fighting. The article first sketches the war’s impact on the Chinese economy, suggesting that the main consequences were “demodernization” and the revival of traditional trading patterns. It then discusses the reading lives of a young woman who grew up during the war and a senior Nationalist official to delineate contrasting emotional private responses, with one person finding in literature an inspirational alternative and the other becoming increasingly disillusioned. The article concludes with an examination of three popular history textbooks. They all stressed the importance of an awareness of Chinese civilization but narrated its nature and its prospects in contrasting ways. Such textbooks were used in required Chinese history courses at universities. The article makes no attempt to be comprehensive but instead uses a few examples as illustrations of the potential of researching wartime everydayness.     

AN INDUSTRIAL ENGINEER (BUT NO PAPYRUS) IN CELTIC BRITAIN

Summary. This article discusses the coin-making methods used in Iron Age Britain, specifically those used to manufacture the cast bronze coins of Kent. The distinctive markings that appear on the coins reveal a series of mould-making experiments that optimized the casting process. The spirit of experimentation and innovation is somewhat akin to that of modern day industrial engineering, and shows Celtic metal-working technology at its best. The hypothesis that papyrus was used in the mould-making procedures is refuted by an analysis of the striations that occur in the fields of some of these coins.     

WOMEN AND GIRLS AS UPPER PALAEOLITHIC CAVE 'ARTISTS': DECIPHERING THE SEXES OF FINGER FLUTERS IN ROUFFIGNAC CAVE

Popular and scholarly literature usually assumes that prehistoric artists were adult men. We show in other publications that young children from the Palaeolithic fluted in Rouffignac Cave, France, and hence the incorrectness at least here of the usual assumption. Our research also shows that females as well as males fluted in Rouffignac. Our methods for demonstrating this are forensic based on physiological research of relative finger lengths of males and females. We examine the profiles of the flutings of seven individuals and show that two are probably male whereas the remaining five are probably female. This type of study leading to where we identify individuals can produce responses to social questions about the fluters both as a group and as individuals.
