Christian papyri from the Oslo collection

In Bellum Civile V Caesar forces the poor fisherman Amyclas to take him across the Adriatic on a stormy night. Caesar is contrasted with Amyclas as being indocilis privata loqui. The present paper shows that Caesar is indocilis privata loqui both in this episode and in the entire epic because he consistently uses the linguistic register of the military, imperatives and violent vocabulary.

Die Studie versucht, das Frauenbild der röm. Elegiker (Properz, Tibull, Ovid) als literarisches Phänomen in seiner Distanz und Nähe zur gesellschaftlichen Realität Roms darzulegen. Ausgehend von der Erkenntnis, daß die Rolle der puella als topisches Element literarischer Fiktion keinesfalls unmittelbar auf die röm. Wirklichkeit übertragen werden darf, andererseits aber die intensive Auseinandersetzung mit den Geschlechterrollen auf eine Umbruchszeit schließen läßt, kommt die Verf. zum Ergebnis, daß es den Elegikern ‐ allen voran Properz ‐ primär um eine provokative Neudefinition des männlichen Selbstverständnisses aus vorwiegend politischen Motiven geht. Im Frauenbild zeigt sich vor allem bei Properz und Tibull dagegen ein unter der Oberfläche elegischer Dominanz der Frau unvermutetes Festhalten an den traditionellen Idealen von pudicitia und fides, wenn auch deutlich wird, daß das stilisierte Bild der matrona mit der röm. Realität zunehmend unvereinbar ist. Erst Ovid entlarvt die tatsächliche Entfernung der Gesellschaft von ihren alten Werten, indem er aus der gewählten erotischen Perspektive die casta matrona selbst als puella fallax zu erkennen gibt.     

Agriculture in sixth‐century Petra and its hinterland,the evidence from the Petra papyri

Since their discovery in 1993 the Petra papyri have drawn the attention of both historians and archaeologists because of the amount of information they contain. They deal with the property of Theodoros, son of Obodianus, and his family in Petra and its vicinity in the period between AD 537 and 593. This paper focuses on agriculture and its importance in Petra and the surrounding area in the sixth century AD, according to the information derived from the scrolls. It appears that agriculture played a major role in the economy of Petra and its hinterland at the time these documents were written. The papyri repeatedly mention agricultural lands throughout the region and in many cases specify their locations and toponyms. Some of the latter are significantly still in use. There is also information about springs, some of which are still active and contribute to local agriculture. Some papyri even contain information about the type of plants grown in the area. Finally, the authors present the current state of agriculture at selected places and compare it with the state of agriculture in the sixth century AD in the study area.

With regard to Nero's last two portrait types, which introduce the coma in gradus formata, various explanations have been given. It is here suggested that the new fashion was the result of the emperor's interest in the stage, and that the crest of stiff locks above the forehead may allude to the coiffures of theatrical masks. Influence from the theatre can also be detected in other manifestations of Neronic fashions and art.

论明祖陵遗址的保护利用

明祖陵遗址的保护利用,是在野外勘察与考古勘探的基础上进行的。在制定好保护利用总体规划的前提下,以遗址公园的形式,逐步实施保护方案,以达到保护与利用的有机结合。其中的关键问题是保护与利用“度”的掌握。     

北宋邵雍书篆祖士衡墓志考

宋代理学宗师邵雍一生著述丰厚,但书迹尠存,河南洛阳出土的祖士衡墓志是目前仅见其楷、篆书体.本文通过对祖士衡墓志的考证,对于了解邵雍书法特点、书体风格变化与理学思想之间的关系具有重要价值.由邵雍所书、篆的几件祖氏家族墓志,可以看出邵雍与祖氏之间的密切关系,反映了邵雍虽隐伏不仕,却仍然关注朝政,特别是在王安石变法事件中,邵雍作为保守反对派所处的立场及态度.     

Fragments of literary papyri from the collection of the Oslo University Library,II: Homer,Iliad 1.411-437 and 473-480

Two papyrus fragments--now in the collection of the Oslo University Library--are described, transcribed and commented on in this publication. Both fragments belonged originally to a roll containing at least book 1 of Homer's Iliad. The handwriting is informal and rather careless, while the portion of the text preserved is of low textual standard. The above features suggest that the roll was a product of private scribal activity.
