林剑鸣教授学术小传

著名学者林剑鸣教授于秦汉史、法律史的教学、研究和出版,其贡献在学术界是非常突出和多方面的,先生长期以来对本刊的扶持和关心亦令人难忘。今年是林剑鸣教授逝世五周年,特刊发新近出版的《纪念林剑鸣教授史学论文集》中《林剑鸣教授学术传略》一文,以资纪念。

Classical Biography: An Ancient Literary Art

The contradictory and distorted portrayal of certain female attributes in Pablo Neruda's Veinte poemas de amor y una canción desesperada is an attempt to understand and unveil, from an adolescent's point of view, the mystery of the "beloved." The lack of knowledge about the female explains the ambivalence and insecurity in the representation of the woman, which resolves itself through a strategy of metamorphosis and textual dissection. Nevertheless, to discover and possess these female attributes is an illusion, a mirage created by masculine desire that only succeeds in approaching the beloved through a series of metamorphoses and fragmentation that actually obscures her further. But the effort is not in vain. The desire to understand (and love) makes possible the pursuit of the female who always is the same, although somehow different: the unknown stranger.

An Academic Perspective on Grey Literature

This article presents an academic’s perspective on grey literature, providing the viewpoint from someone who has experience publishing in both academic and grey literature venues. I explore the strengths and weaknesses of grey literature and argue that more rigorous quality control, increased access to this literature, and more scholarly cooperation are necessary in order for grey literature to become accepted as a legitimate published form.

Abstract

The Banquet Speech to the North American Paul Tillich Society was given in Philadelphia, PA on November 18, 2005. It emphasized their personal friendship even if neither would have claimed the other as best friend, and detailed their practical partnership as an alliance. They cooperated together in: anti-Nazi and World War II efforts, their pro-Zionist stance regarding Israel, disagreement with the government over plans to use nuclear weapons, progressive politics and anti-right-wing political activities, and socialism, although Tillich continued a socialist hope after Niebuhr had moved away from socialist commitments.
