Iodel of Library Training Prograrm at the Tibet Library

Librarianship in Tibet has changed gradually through the years. Its development has been closely tied to the movement of history, economics, and culture in Tibet. There are many issues that have become obstacles in the development of Tibetan libraries. Foremost among these issues is the shortage of professionally trained librarians. This paper discusses the history of Tibetan libraries, and explores the situation of the library and information science （LIS） profession in Tibet. Finally, through analysis of current situations and problems, this paper discusses a model of a library training program at the Tibet library to provide variety and appropriate continuing education for librarians in Tibet.

Iwent to Tibet to work in 1976, and was dispatched to northern Tibet, and from there to Maidika of Jiali county.     

藏汉语言态度和藏语情节(英文)

The language policy being employed in Tibet is"Tibetan language in the majority,but Tibetan and Chinese language side by side".We have already writ- ten articles on language acquisition and the use of Ti- betan and Chinese in Tibet.We find that there is some disparity among Tibetan residents in the acquisition and use of these languages.Subconscious emotion in language has many aspects,including attitudes and actions.We will discuss this in reference to a test analy- sis of attitudes towards the two languages.     

Beijing Tibet Middle School

The year marks the 20th anniversary of the Central Government decision to run Tibet middle schools in the hinterland. At present, there are such schools or Tibetan classes in 26 provinces and municipalities directly under the Central Government. They work to train technical personnel and teachers for Tibet. Launched in 1987, the Beijing Tibet Middle School has since trained more than 2,800 middle and high school students for Tibet. Many of them returned to Tibet for construction.     

TASHI DASANG—THE FIRST ANCIENT BRIDGE ON THE “TEA-HORSE TRADE” ROUTE

<正>As the entrance to southeast Tibet,Markham County is the first stop on the"tea-horse trade"route in Tibet.It is the cultural confluence of Sichuan,Yunnan and Tibet.In recent years,the golden tourist attraction,the"tea-horse trade"route,has boomed because along it's path a number of splendid attractions are passed through, including the famous salt fields in Tsakhalho,hot springs in Chutsankha and the fascinating valley of Lancangjiang River.People may become familiar with these attractions,but will easily forget one important pass on the route of the"tea-horse trade":there is only one ancient bridge across the Lancangjiang River-Tashi Dasang Bridge at Tsowa Town.     

Lhasa Basked in Sunshine

According to the records, there were 31 cities sited in the Lhasa area and 17 cities in the Xigaze area during the long history of Tibet. "City" actually meant "castle", and the fact is that there were no cities in the real meaning of the word. In some places, large or small pillboxes were built for human habitation without any streets, or even lanes, or surrounding city walls.     

50 YEARS OF STATE AID TO TIBET

Given its restrictive natural and geographical conditions, Tibet remained backward in economic development for a long time. With the peaceful liberation of Tibet in 1951, the Central Government formulated policies geared to stimulate social and economic development in the region. From 1952 to 2000, the Central Government granted 47.49343 billion Yuan in aid of Tibet, and spent 31.0232 billion Yuan in infrastructure construction there. NYIMA COUNTY,A PLACE CLOSEST TO THE SUN

<正>Nyima means sun in Tibetan.In the northwest of the Nagqu Prefecture,there is a county named Nyima.As the average elevation of about 5000 meters,the county is called the place closest to the sun.Photos in this column present the changes taken place there during a period about 30 years.Located in the near south of the"no man's land"in the northern Tibet,the former Nyima is very barren and poverty.But this is left in photos

My Stories in Tibet Liao Dongfan,author and renowned scholar in Tibetan studies (being particularly well- versed in Tibetan folklore and popular culture) headed to Tibet and began his career there after graduating from the Chinese Literature Department of Peking University in 1961.In his 24 years of work on the plateau he devoted his time to studying the popular culture and folklore of Tibetans.
