熠熠生辉——金与金的艺术

Gold was the most valuable metal in the ancient times and also the combination of the most magnificent materials and of the most complicated techniques. A history of the gold and silver wares reflects the development of the ancient handicraft, culture and aesthetics. The history of the Chinese ancient gold and silver handicraft is colorful and each period has its own distinguished character. The simplicity of Shang and Zhou. the vividness of the Spring and Autumn period and the Warring States. the boldness of the Han. the foreign style of Wei Jing and the Northern and Southern Dynasties, the vigor of Dang, the elegance of Song and Yuan and the delicacy of Ming and Qing, all makes the audience clap their hands in admiration.

Through analysis of the literally recorded location of the Song Emperor Wudi'sChuning Mausoleum and Wendi's Changning Mausoleum of the Southern Dynasties period and compar-ison of the style of the stone animals presently existing at Qilinpu in Nanjing with that of their counter-parts along the spirit roads of mausoleums round the Song period of Southern Dynasties times it can beconcluded that the Qilinpu stone animals must be sculptures of an imperial mausoleum of the Chen Dy-nasty in the Southern Dynas...

FOOD AND DRINK FOR THE KING, QUEEN, OFFICIALS AND ANCESTORS IN THE HOUSE OF THE LADY IN GIRSU

In JAC 16 I have discussed the development of the House of the lady in Girsu from the rule of Enentarzi to Lugalanda according to the ration lists of the House, and concluded that Urukagina was the legal successor of Lugalanda and there might not be the so-called ＂reforms of Urukagina＂ in Lagash and Girsu. That was the first part of my studies on the administrative texts from Girsu. In JAC 19 I have investigated, according to the donkey fodder rations which are recorded in the first part of the List of Monthly Barley-Wheat Distributions and Allowances （ξe-gar ziz-gar sa-dug4 itid-da）, the sorts, number and fodders of the donkeys from the rule of Enentarzi to the last years of Urukagina and found that from Urukagina Year 5, ii （2nd month）, the daily fodders and the number of various donkeys were greatly reduced.

The book is confined to the study of the “popular morality” of the Athenians of the second half of the fifth century BCE and the whole extent of the fourth. The author moves outward from the central phenomenon of Athenian life, the oikos, comprising the family and extended family (Chapter 1), with a more sideways to take in threats or alternatives to the family, in the shape of courtesans and other ladies of irregular status (Chapter 2), returning then (Chapter 3) to the oikos with a chapter on problems of inheritance. After this he passes (Chapter 4) to the topic of friends and enemies, as essential feature of the Greekpolis.     

DONKEY FODDERS OF THE HOUSE OF THE LADY AND DECLINE OF URUKAGINA＇S REGIME FROM HIS FIFTH YEAR

In JAC16, I have discussed the development of the House of the Lady in Girsu from the rule of Enentarzi to Lugalanda according to the ration lists of the House,which include the fodder lists, and concluded that Urukagina was the legal successor of Lugalanda and there might not be the so-called “reforms of Urukagina” in Lagash and Girsu. In this article, I would like to continue to investigate the kinds, number and fodders of the donkeys from the rule of Enentarzi to the end years of Urukagina and tried to find the clues for the decline of Lagash under Uruka~ina.

Qing Dynasty Archives On the Dalai lamasThe Dalai Lama was one of the two leaders of the Gelug (Yellow) Sect of Tibetan Buddhism. It won the honorific title of the Dalai lama in 1653 from Qing Emperor Shunzhi, and the Living Buddha had since been following the reincarnation system under the supervision of the Central Government. His soul boy was not legal until he won the confirmation of the Central Government. 吐蕃第一窟－－拉萨市药王山札那路浦石窟的几个问题

In this article, through the studies on the statues of brag-lha-klu-phug in Lhasa, combining with Chinese and Tibetan documents, the author makes a further exploration into its date, artistic styly and the relations with the Buddhist art of the neighbourhood. Apart from the influence of the art of grottos in Hexi Area, the traditional cultural relations between Tubo and Nepal, India also should be considered. The styles of statues, the Grotto of Tubo dynasty is closer to that of the Buddhist art of Nepal.     

EXHIBITION FEATURING TIBETAN BUDDHISM OPENS IN PALACE MUSEUM

An exhibition on the theme of the successive Panchen Lamas and Buddhism art opened on Dec.8,2019 in the Palace Museum.The exhibition,with the theme of"the Fortune and Longevity of Sumeru:an Encounter between the Tashilhunpo Monastery and the Palace Museum",shows the cultural and historical significance of the Buddhism arts and heritage of the monastery.A total of 280 pieces of cultural relics preserved in the museum and the monastery are displayed at the exhibition,which will run through February,2020.

The Tangut Contracts of Selling and Hiring Livestock

The newly discovered Tangut contracts of selling livestock which provide many details of livestock trade prove to be very valuable on the research of the commerce, the agriculture and animal husbandry economy, and the civil life in the Tangut Kingdom. Having translated 20 nearly complete contracts of selling or hiring livestock written in cursive Tangut characters into Chinese, this article exhibits the form and content of these contracts. Based on the new data provided by these contracts, an exploration of the price of livestock in the Tangut Kingdom can be carried out. After analyzing the different features of exchange of grain and money for livestock in Khara Khoto and Wuwei, the paper considers the monetary economy in Wuwei region being more developed. The soaring price of livestock in the contracts at the end of the Tangut Kingdom describes a miserable scene of unrest and inflation on the background of the Mongol invasion.     

THE SED-FESTIVAL AND ANCIENT EGYPTIAN CHRONOLOGY

The problem of the periodic character of the sod-festival, as with other aspects of this mysterious ceremony, has long been discussed and is still the subject of debate. This ritual was intended to be celebrated by the king, normally after a reign of thirty years had elapsed -- the so-called ＂thirty-year principle,＂ --which is taken by general consent to be a significant feature of the sed-festival. Yet, there is disagreement as to how to use records relating to the sed-festival in chronological studies on account of the fact that a number of records of the sed-festival are dated prior to the thirtieth regnal year of the king. Due to our hunger and need for datable sources, none the less, historians cannot always resist the temptation to assess the length of a king＇s reign on the basis of the sed-festival records, sometimes even though only scant evidence is available.     

石家河文化的空间分布

In the light of Shijiahe cultural characteristics, we analyzes the spatial distribution of the culture from the center to the border, probing two aspects on this question, one is the boundary of the spatial distribution of the culture, the other is the regional cultural types. Tne paper points out that the Northem boundary of Shijiahe culture used to reach the center of the Nanyang basin while the southern scope of the culture used to included the center of Hunan province.There are six regional types in Shijiahe culture, i. e. Shijiahe type, Qinlongquan type,Xihuayuan type,Jijiahu type, Yaojialin type and Daiziping type.     

试论鄂西北地区的“仰韶文化”和“屈家岭文化”

From the study of the complex of the so-called Yangshao culture and Qujialing culture in the northwest of Hubei Province,this paper discusses the alignment,evolution and variation of archaeological cultures.It argues that the different types of remains can be divided into four phases,based on the analyses and comparisions of the combined typical pottery objects in main sites.In addition,the remains in the area are compared horizontally to the cultures of the surrounding zones i.e.the Central Plain and the Jianghan Plain around the same period,and their respectively relative age,cultural characters and the alignment of cultural development are studied.     

Onstage Rumor,Offstage Voices： The Politics of the Present in the Contemporary Opera of Li Yu

Much scholarly work on the literary culture of the early Qing dynasty has focused on notions of memory, trauma, and nostalgia. In contrast, this essay investigates the ＂contemporary operas＂ （shishi xiqu） of the seventeenth-century Suzhou playwright Li Yu to argue for the importance of the notion of＂the present day.＂ How is this notion of the present day given dramatic form in Li Yu＇s operas and what implications does this interest in the contemporary have for the broader cultural scene of the early Qing dynasty？ This paper will answer these questions by investigating one dramatic technique favored by Li Yu： the inclusion of snippets of rumor and ＂news＂ reports into the play. By including such contemporary media reports, Li Yu not only generates a constantly evolving sense of the present, he also projects this sense of immediacy beyond the fiction of the stage into the ＂reality＂ of the audience, creating a form of opera eminently suited for both reflecting and producing local Suzhou activism, as evidenced in Li Yu＇s most famous work, Qing zhong pu （Registers of the pure and loyal）, a work chronicling the popular Suzhou protests of the mid-1620s and Wanli yuan （Reunion over ten thousand miles）, which stages the dissolution and reintegration of family and empire right after the fall of the Ming.
