两极之间的新史学：关于史学研究会的学术史考察

以吴晗等为首的史学研究会曾一度活跃于20世纪30年代的中国史坛,在本土史学由传统向现代转型的历程中扮演了一个积极角色。它将社会经济史设定为研究重心,尤其注意从社会、经济方面解析历史现象和历史问题;它奉行民间本位的治史立场,关注基层社会和普通人物的历史境况,并采取通俗化的表述策略;它遵循实证与诠释并重的致知取向,兼顾史料与史观;它主张从社会学、经济学、统计学等学科借取理论和方法阐释中国历史,使史学研究手段得到大幅度更新。其新史学应属于比“马克思主义史学”指涉更广的唯物史观派史学;它的出现,标志着唯物史观派日益走向成熟。

An Archaeology of History: The Wang Mang Nine Temples from Early Imperial China as Reconstructed by History and by Archaeology

In this paper, I examine the relationship between the construction of history by the textual history of early imperial China and by Chinese archaeology in the second half of the twentieth century, considering how these two fields of scholarship were directed by ideologies of the Chinese government. The locus for this investigation is the complex of imperial ancestral temples constructed by the emperor Wang Mang (r. 9–23 CE) for his brief interregnum dynasty. Although this group of buildings is described in the official dynastic history, compiled only fifty years after its construction, as having nine temple buildings with specific ancestors ascribed to each, its archaeological excavation in the late 1950s instead revealed twelve temples in a carefully organized plan. The discrepancy between the original construction of the temple complex and its subsequent revision in textual history is revealing in terms of the relationship between received tradition and individual action in the context of establishing imperial legitimacy, whereas the modern attempts to reconcile the discrepancy between textual history and excavated history are indicative of the relationship between Chinese archaeology of that period and the nationalist revision of history.     

Zionism and Jewish Nationalism: An Inquiry into an Ideological Relationship

The axiomatic link in modern Jewish thought between Zionism and Jewish nationalism is questioned in this essay. It will be suggested that the connection between both embodied an ideological “marriage of convenience” blessed by both Jews and non-Jews, but not a deep-rooted bond, and that the idea of a “Jewish nationalism” deserves critical reconsideration. Three complementary hypotheses are proposed and analyzed: that Zionism and nationalism were basically unconnected; that Zion-related concepts, rooted in Jewish historical awareness, were a constant ideological factor among broad sectors of modernizing Jewry; and that Zionism was a modern concoction rooted in Zion-related concepts which also absorbed ideological elements from the general European milieu, among them national notions—national, in this context meaning “national in general,” and not “Jewish-national.”

南学会若干史实考辨

南学会曾被梁启超称誉为湖南“全省新政之命脉”,故历来颇获研究重视,凡论及维新时期学会组织之论,所有研究戊戌变法(尤其是湖南维新运动)及有关中国近代史之述,皆或多或少提及南学会;关于南学会之专,则有王尔敏《南学会》、汤志钧《论南学会》、卢智《戊戌维新时期的南学会》等。①然史学界迄今对南学会若干基本史实存有舛误,乃至以讹传讹。本依据南学会学长皮锡瑞之日记、《湘报》等原始资料,就南学会若干史实加以考辨。

《中图法》"中国当代史"类目设置问题探讨

笔者对《中图法》"中华人民共和国史"(以下简称"中国当代史")的类目设置进行了思考,发现存在这样一些问题:"K27"类下应该设立下位类目的,却没有设立下位类目;"中国时代表"中"当代史"的类目虽然设立了下位类目,但对"当代史"的分期却又不恰当地以年代来划分;从横向比较上来看,类目设置在详简程度上又存在着许多不一致性。本文就这些问题进行探讨并提出修订应遵循的原则。     

"新京"时代的日本作家与作品

日本帝国主义对中国东北地区进行殖民主义统治期间,滞在的数百名日本作家创作了大量的诗歌、小说、随笔、戏剧。作为特定历史时期的日本人的生活写照,理应在日本近代文学史和日本殖民主义文学史中占有一席位置,但实际的情形却是至今沉睡一隅。本文重点通过耙梳葺理这些表现了日本殖民主义扩张时期民众心理的作品,为读者正确解读那段殖民主义侵略史,提供尽可能翔实的史料。
