A simple stick model is presented for the inelastic seismic analysis in 3D of two-way eccentric multistory RC buildings. It has 3 DoFs per floor, point hinges at the ends of the vertical elements connecting floors, elastic story stiffness derived from the corresponding story force-interstory deformation relations of the elastic 3D structure under inverted-triangular floor loading (by torques for torsional stiffness, by horizontal forces for the lateral ones), story yield forces derived from the total resistant shear of the story vertical elements, but no coupling between lateral and torsional inelasticity. It is evaluated on the basis of comparisons of response histories of floor displacements to those from full nonlinear models in 3D of four actual buildings. Alternative locations of the story vertical element with respect to the floor mass center are examined: (a) the floor “center of twist” of the elastic 3D building under inverted-triangular floor torques; (b) the story “effective center of rigidity,” through which application of inverted triangular lateral forces does not induce twisting of floors; (c) the centroid of the secant stiffness of the story vertical members at yielding and (d) the centroid of the lateral force resistance of story vertical elements. Among alternatives (a)–(d), the floor “center of twist” provides the best agreement with floor displacement response-histories from full 3D nonlinear models. This means that the static eccentricity that matters for torsional response may be taken as that of the floor “center of twist.” The center of resistance comes up as the second-best choice.  相似文献

Various approaches are currently used for the analysis of piles under vertical and lateral loading. Among these, the beam-on-a-nonlinear Winkler foundation (BNWF) approach using published P-y, T-z and Q-z curves is widely used in practice. In this approach, the P-y and T-z responses are generally uncoupled from each other. The objective of this paper is to investigate the influence that the coupling of the P-y and T-z responses has.on the cyclic and dynamic response of piles in cohesionless soil. A cyclic model is first developed and a parametric study is conducted to investigate the effect the initial confining pressure, angle of wall friction and effective vertical stiffness have on the lateral cyclic hysteretic response. A dynamic model is then developed, and used to study the response of a single pile in cohesionless soil under horizontal and/or vertical ground motion. Results from the parametric study showed that the three parameters did not have a significant influence on the lateral cyclic hysteretic response. Under horizontal and/or vertical ground motion, the horizontal ground motion was observed to dominate the inertial interaction response, and significantly affected both the horizontal and vertical displacement response, mainly due to second-order P-Δ and gapping effects.  相似文献

The results of a parametric study are presented, concerned with the evaluation of the structural overstrength, the global ductility and the available behaviour factor of existing reinforced concrete (RC) buildings designed and constructed according to past generations of earthquake resistant design codes in Greece. For the estimation of these parameters, various failure criteria are incorporated in a methodology established to predict the failure mode of such buildings under planar response, as described in detail in a companion publication. A collection of 85 typical building forms is considered. The influence of various parameters is examined, such as the geometry of the structure (number of storeys, bay width etc.), the vertical irregularity, the contribution of the perimeter frame masonry infill walls, the period of construction, the design code and the seismic zone coefficient. The results from inelastic pushover analyses indicate that existing RC buildings exhibit higher overstrength than their contemporary counterparts, but with much reduced ductility capacity. The presence of perimeter infill walls increases considerably their stiffness and lateral resistance, while further reducing their ductility. Fully infilled frames exhibit generally good behaviour, while structures with an open floor exhibit the worst performance by creating a soft storey. Shear failure becomes critical in the buildings with partial height infills. It is also critical for buildings with isolated shear wall cores at the elevator shaft. Out of five different forms of irregularity considered in this study, buildings with column discontinuities in the ground storey exhibit the worst performance. Furthermore, buildings located in the higher seismicity zone are more vulnerable, since the increase of their lateral resistance and ductility capacity is disproportional to the increase in seismic demand.  相似文献

The aim of this paper is to investigate the dynamic response of planar circular arches with variable cross-section subjected to seismic ground motions. Arches have a wide range of application (e.g. bridges, roofs) thanks to their capacity to span large areas by resolving vertical actions into compressive stresses and confining tensile stresses. The full understanding of their dynamic response is a challenging technical and computational problem, especially when seismic loading is considered. For example, the assumption of axial inextensibility simplifies the differential equations but overestimates the vibration frequencies, especially those of shallow arches since axial forces are of paramount importance (as opposed to beams). In lieu of the above, our formulation incorporates the effect of axial extension, and the arches are modeled using a new generic curved beam model that includes both axial (tangential) and transverse (normal) to the arch centerline deformations, and is able to account for variable mass and stiffness properties, as well as elastic support or restraint. The resulting dynamic governing equations of the circular arch are formulated in terms of the displacements, and solved using an efficient integral equation method. Three circular arches with variable rectangular cross-section are analyzed in order to investigate their dynamic properties and seismic performance. Using both time history and modal analysis useful conclusions are drawn with regard to the contribution of each mode on the calculation of different response quantities.  相似文献

A new robust design methodology to control the seismic performance of asymmetric structures equipped with a Single Tuned Mass Damper (STMD) is presented in this article. This design approach aims to control the seismic response of such systems by reducing both flexible-and stiff-edge maximum displacement. The dynamic problem has been investigated in the state space representation showing that the TMD works as a closed-loop feedback control action. A synthetic index to estimate the seismic performance of the main system has been defined by using H norm. Wide-ranging parametric numerical experimentation has been carried out to obtain design formulae for the STMD in order to minimize such a performance index. These formulae allow for a simple design of STMD position and stiffness to optimally control both translational and rotational motion components, whereas two mass devices are generally considered to improve the seismic performance of asymmetric structural systems The effectiveness and efficiency of the obtained design formulae have been tested by investigating the dynamic behavior of the asymmetric structure after being subjected to different recorded seismic inputs.  相似文献

The vertical component of earthquake ground motion has generally been neglected in the earthquake-resistant design of structures. This is gradually changing due to the increase in near-source records obtained recently, coupled with field observations confirming the possible destructive effect of high vertical vibrations.

In this paper, simple procedures are suggested for assessing the significance of vertical ground motion, indicating when it should be included in the determination of seismic actions on buildings. Proposals are made for the calculation of elastic and inelastic vertical periods of vibration incorporating the effects of vertical and horizontal motion amplitude and the cross-coupling between the two vibration periods. Simplified analysis may then be used to evaluate realistic vertical forces by employing the vertical period of vibration with pertinent spectra without resorting to inelastic dynamic analysis.

Finally, a procedure is suggested for combining vertical and horizontal seismic action effects which accounts for the likelihood of coincidence, or otherwise, of peak response in the two directions.  相似文献

Complementing recent theoretical models of tax competition with endogenous leadership, we empirically model local policy diffusion as a dynamic asymmetric process. Using a setting where local option sales taxes rapidly transitioned from nonexistence to ubiquity, we construct a policy leadership index to classify jurisdictions as leaders or followers. Using models that control for vertical tax competition effects, we show how asymmetric leader–follower dynamics characterize horizontal tax competition over the three decades that follow. A placebo test further supports our main conclusions. This methodological approach could be adapted to other settings where policies exhibit both extensive and intensive margins.  相似文献

Soil was modelled with linearly elastic three-dimensional finite elements. Lateral spring stiffness was calculated from FE results. Spring stiffness is shown varying linearly with shaft diameter. It is also found that spring stiffness is inversely proportional to powers (less than unity) of pile flexural rigidity. Scaling factors for shaft diameter and pile flexural rigidity are introduced. Basic stiffness of lateral spring is studied considering both full vertical slippage and zero slippage between the soil and the pile. Relevant relationships for stiffness are proposed. In the following paper, we analyze whether the behavior of members of Congress with business backgrounds differs from that of other legislators, and we find that it does. Specifically, House members with business backgrounds have closer relationships with business interests (as measured by larger contributions from corporate PACs) and demonstrate more probusiness roll call voting. We also find that members making a direct transition from a business career to the House sponsor more business-focused legislation. The significance of a business background is consistent across different forms of behavior, though the magnitude of effects is generally modest. Our findings contribute to a growing body of literature emphasizing the importance of legislator backgrounds to their behavior in office.

A simplified bridge model suitable for use in a parametric study of short-span skew highway bridges and bridges with stiffness eccentricity is presented. The proposed model is simple, yet it captures all essential features that affect the dynamic response of these bridges. Using this simplified model, formulas for computing earthquake response of the bridges are developed and parameters that significantly influence the dynamic response of the bridges are identified. The study indicates that the response of a given skew bridge depends not only on its deck aspect ratio, the stiffness eccentricity ratio, the skew angles, its natural frequencies, but also on the frequency ratio. In particular, the rotational to translational frequency ratio has a pronounced influence on the dynamic response of the bridge. It is found that skew bridges with high rotational to translational frequency ratios often exhibit less dependence on such parameters as deck aspect ratios, stiffness eccentricity ratios and skew angles.  相似文献

Recent studies have shown that for many reinforced concrete lateral force-resisting elements (LFRE) stiffness is dependent on strength, and as a result strength assign-ment to these elements would affect both the strength and stiffness distributions in a structure. As a consequence, stiffness distribution cannot be considered known prior to strength assignment. This implies that in assigning strength to LFRE, the designer has the ability not only to prescribe the strength distribution, but also indirectly control the stiffness distribution in the structure. In this paper, a study is made on the seis-mic performance of a number of single-story structures to reconfirm that the “balanced CV-CR location” criterion, previously suggested by the writers, constitutes a desirable strength/stiffness distribution for minimising torsional response of asymmetric reinforced concrete structures.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This article aims to disclose that the deformation and damages of the one-way straight mortise-tenon (OWSMT) joint, the key force transmission connection of traditional wood buildings, lead to a significant reduction in structural safety of ancient timber structure. For this purpose, the damage of mortise joint in practical engineering wassimulated by controlling the gap and width between mortise and tenon. A total of 23 groups of scaled 1:2 OWSMT joint specimens were fabricated and tested subjected to cyclic loadings, and the hysteretic curves of OWSMT joint with different damage degrees were obtained. Through skeleton curves, stiffness degradation curves, and equivalent viscous damping curves of the OWSMT joint, the seismic performance of damaged wood joints was quantitatively analyzed. The results show that, with the increase in the gap between the tenon and the mortise, the slip between them became increasingly obvious, the fullness and peak of the hysteresis curve gradually decreased, the gradient of the skeleton curve also dropped, and both the stiffness degradation curve and the equivalent viscous damping curve are gradually reduced. The research findings shed new light on the seismic assessment of aging timber buildings.  相似文献

This article studies the performance of economic base isolators using tyres filled with elastomeric recycled materials. The research was conducted to analyze base isolators to be used in developing nations, where the application of conventional elastomeric rubber bearings due to economic reasons is limited.

The tested isolators are made of kart tyres filled with different recycled elastomeric materials and aggregates. Dynamic and static tests proved acceptable vertical to horizontal stiffness ratio of the bearings and shake table tests showed an excellent enhancement of the base isolated structural response compared to the corresponding fixed base structure.  相似文献

本研究以全国重点文物保护单位西藏罗布林卡三大宫殿之一的坚塞颇章宫为实例,分析藏式古建筑的结构特点,探讨计算分析方法,并针对静力荷载工况和地震组合工况下的结构性能进行了讨论。本研究区别于以往藏式结构的研究方法,主要在于:在计算分析中将墙体建入整体结构模型,考虑墙体对结构的影响;考虑墙体和木柱的“收分”造型的影响;将楼板和屋面的密布木檩等刚度转化为单向板考虑;同时考虑构件已存的变形缺陷影响。计算结果表明:西藏坚塞颇章宫在静力荷载工况作用下,整体状态良好,梁柱墙及节点均满足承载力要求;在地震组合工况作用下,部分柱和墙不满足抗震承载力要求。在地震作用下,该建筑刚度较小的木结构构件首先发生振动。结构薄弱部位是中部四根二层通高木柱。这四根通高木柱长细比较大,刚度较小,一旦发生较大的变形,将直接影响整体结构安全。木柱与墙体之间的变形差异较大,两者变形协调性较差。此外,存在变形缺陷的中部通高木柱所在梁柱节点的抗震承载力不满足要求,应注意加强防护。研究涉及的计算分析方法及相关计算结论对藏式建筑结构的深入研究具有重要的参考价值。  相似文献

A very useful tool for the preliminary design of structures is the elastic demand spectrum that can be used in the capacity spectrum method. A pseudo-acceleration relationship has to be assumed when constructing a demand spectrum. This assumption results in large errors for long period structures with large damping ratios and the conventional demand spectra require a substitute elastic structure. In the present study, the conventional demand spectra are extended to bi-linear models. Pseudo-acceleration is still assumed but results in acceptably small errors, when a constant viscous damping coefficient for a single-degree-of-freedom (SDF) structure is calculated from the tangent stiffness and the damping ratio is set at 5% in both elastic and yield phases. For nonlinear structures, tangent stiffness dependency of damping force could be acceptable because energy absorption is primarily the result of structural nonlinear deformation. To extend the conventional demand spectra to a bi-linear model, effective period calculated from the secant stiffness has to be used. The use of effective period introduces no approximation because the peak displacement of the SDF structure is computed from nonlinear analysis in the time domain. The method presented in this study is also valid if damping coefficient proportional to initial elastic spectra is used. In this case, the pseudo-acceleration is defined as the base shear coefficient that is required to produce the peak displacement of the SDF structure in a static manner. We present demand spectra of bi-linear models for a number of near-source records from large earthquakes, and spectral ratios of two horizontal components. The effects of different types of ground motion on the response reduction factor due to inelastic deformation are investigated.  相似文献

The presented research focuses on large-scale seismic testing under multi-directional ground motion of a three-story high, wood-frame residential building representing late 1960's California construction. Earthquake lateral resistance is provided by plywood shear walls around the perimeter of the building with an open front in the first story for tuck-under parking. Accordingly, the as-built structural configuration is asymmetric in plan and discontinuous in elevation with tendency to twist about a vertical axis and to form a weak story mechanism. The test results confirm this tendency. They also reveal the sensitivity of the response to multi-direction ground motion. Asymmetric damage patterns are induced by the multi-component motions in the walls oriented perpendicular to the open front for the as-built test structure, with or without finish materials. However, the observed damage remained noncritical as far as structural integrity is concerned even for ground accelerations exceeding 120% of that recorded during Northridge earthquake. This is viewed as a consequence of the better construction of the test building compared to actual construction. Investigated retrofit includes adding a welded moment resisting steel frame around of the garage opening and strengthening the diaphragm to header beam connections. The study indicates that the retrofit significantly reduced the maximum story drift in the open front. Moreover, the finish material and the retrofit greatly reduce the maximum rotation of the building about the vertical axis.  相似文献

Using Costa Rica's experience with its payments for ecosystem services (PES) programme, this article examines how and why some groups come to be excluded from participating in the programme. It demonstrates that Costa Rica's PES programme results in payments that generally go to larger landowners and tend to exclude certain kinds of smallholders, and that these patterns occur despite concerted state efforts to include the rural poor. The author argues that access exclusions found in PES are the result of historical patterns of agrarian settlement interacting with the state's inability to recognize certain forms of property claims in the context of PES, with the latter condition emerging through ongoing efforts to transform the administration of the nation's property regime in ways that will render it more legible to markets. This case study shows the importance of understanding how access restrictions emerge from the complex relations between multiple state institutions and agrarian producers in the implementation of PES.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This article explores corporate regional engagement and related social capital in non-core regions. Corporate regional engagement comprises various activities of firms to influence regional contexts, which are challenging in non-core regions (e.g. on account of their organizational or institutional thinness). Corporate regional engagement engenders positive effects for regional development when firms collaborate among themselves (bonding social capital) and with other actors (bridging social capital) to improve regional endowments. We assume that dynamic regions have at their disposal higher levels of inclusive social capital in terms of collaboration networks for regional concerns and trust, while less dynamic regions have more exclusive and fragmented social capital. Consequently, less dynamic regions in particular appear to have potential to develop in a more social sense by activating the endogenous potential of region-wide collaboration. Those assumptions are tested based on a survey with Chief Executive Officers from the manufacturing industry from three dynamic and three less dynamic Swiss regions. The findings show that in dynamic regions, more firms are members of regional cross-industry associations, favouring regional collaboration; in less dynamic regions, meanwhile, more firms are members of industry-specific associations and service clubs, where benefits seem to be higher for individual firms than for the regional business environment.  相似文献
