Mawdūdī's Contribution to the Development of Modern Islamic Thinking in the Arabic-Speaking World

Sayyid Abu al-A'la Mawdūdī (1903–1979) was one of the most influential and prolific of contemporary Muslim thinkers. His interpretive reading of Islam has contributed greatly to the articulation of Islamic revivalist thought and has influenced Muslim thinkers and activists from Morocco to Indonesia. His impact is evident in the exegesis of Sayyid Qu⃛b of Egypt, as well as in the ideas and actions of Algerian, Iranian, Malaysian and Sudanese revivalist activists.     

Confronting Political Religion with Divine Religion: Christian Strategies of Re-Evangelization in the 1930s

Abstract

Western Christianity is currently engaged in a debate on religious pluralism, postmodernity and re-evangelization. This paper argues that the contours of this debate were already visible between the two world wars when Nazism (the ‘new Mohammedism’ as some Christian observers termed it) tried to take over the place Christianity was vacating. The defeat of this ‘political religion’ does not mean the victory of Christianity.     

抗战前期中国争取同苏联订立互助条约始末--兼析《中苏互不侵犯条约》的签订

1932年和1935年,国民政府先后向苏联提出签订互不侵犯条约和互助条约问题。1937年全面抗战爆发后,中苏签订了互不侵犯条约。此后,争取与苏联签订互助条约,促使苏联出兵参战,成为国民政府战时外交工作的重点。这一条约最终未能订立,但有关交涉一直持续到太平洋战争爆发才结束。本文探讨了这两个条约的相互关系及交涉的全过程。关于互不侵犯条约,重在分析国民政府从首先提议,到不愿订立,再到急于签订的种种原因。关于互助条约交涉,则着重梳理其过程,并分析其对中国战时外交的影响。本文最后指出,两个条约交涉的不同结局,是由两国战略利益的异同所决定的。
