The style of Tibetan knives comes in four kinds:knives unique to the Lhasa and Xigaze areas,Gungbo area,Amdo area and Kham area.Lharze and Namling Tibetan knives are what people always talk about as being representative of the knives found in the Lhasa and Xigaze aareas.Craftsmen in the Lharze and Namling areas pay much attention to the steel-making fire when making the knife‘s edge.     

TIBETAN LANGUAGE AND ITS TERMINOLOGY STANDARDIZATION——Introducing a New Perspective on the Standardization of Tibetan New Words andTerminology

The Tibetan language spoken by the Tibetans belongs to the Tibetan-Burmese branch of the Sino-Tibetan family. It has about six million users who live mainly in the Tibet Autonomous Region （TAR） and four other Tibetan-inhabited provinces： Qinghai Province, Sichuan Province, Gansu Province and Yunnan Province. The standardization of Tibetan terminology is an essential part of China＇s national policy on nationality and national languages. A special column named ＂Tibetan Language and its Terminology Standardization＂ is included in this issue to describe the birth, use, and development of Tibetan language especially the standardization of its new terminology.     

THE ROCK PAINTINGS IN YUSHU

正Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture is situated in the southwestern area of Qinghai Province, the central region of the QinghaiTibet Plateau. A FORMER TIBETAN SERF'S PAST AND PRESENT

It is aimed to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the first ascent of Mount Qomolangma by human beings. The organizers will also hold several mountaineering activities for amateurs to learn mountaineering skills. i,hasa Issued China＇s Firstlmrism Law Lhasa issued the offprint of the Tourism Law of the People＇s Republic of China in August, which is the country＇s first tourism law. Deliberated and approved by the 12th Standing Committee of the National People＇s Congress （NPC）, the law will be put into force on October 1, 2013. Overseas Chinese Painters X＇isited Tibet Nearly 20 overseas artists from 11 countries and areas including the US, Canada, Japan, Australia, France and Italy set out for the journey of ＂Famous Chinese Painters to Tibet＂ on August 16. Grand Tibetan Musical Yarluag Zangbo Premiered Musical Yarlung Zangbo premiered at the Yarlung Theatre in Lhoka Prefecture on August 15, 2013. The musical showed the time-honored history and culture of Lhoka and also highlighted the Yarlung Cultural Festival from August 15 to 21. Tibet Invests 100 Million Yuan to Build Sehool Bathrooms Almost 100 million Yuan has been invested in building bathrooms for primary and middle school students in Tibet since 2012. It is expected that 109 bathrooms, which make use of solar energy by installing solar power water heaters, will be finished until the end of 2013. Nachen Bridge, connecting the North Circular Road and the 318 National Highway after completion, has realized its closure of the main part structure and is expected to open to traffic within the year. The scenic zone Nanyigou, located in Nyingchi Prefecture, has adopted a tourist quota policy to allow a limit of up to 2,000 per day since August in order to support Chinas bid to build ecological shelter. The 2013 Shoton Festival of Tibet has wrapped up on August 12th. During the seven days＇ festival this year, a total number of 1.38 million tourists have visited Tibet, reaching an all-time high. The Xiahe Airport in Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Gansu Province opened on Aug. 19.

Talent Cultivation Project Onthe Move

In the golden autumn of 2002, a ceremony was held in Lhasa for the Tibet Development Fund to donate to the Talent Cultivation Project. Nineteen Tibetan students currently studying in the hinterland and Tibetan universities and high schools, whose families live below the poverty line, formed the first group of recipients; 24 others belong to the second group to be aided. Radi (Chairman of the People's Congress of the Tibet Autonomous Region), Lobsang Toinzhub (Vice-Chairman of the TAR government and advisor to the Tibet Development Fund), and Lhamin Soinam Lhunzhub (Vice-Chairman of the CPPCC Tibet Committee and council member of the Tibet Development Fund)

Tibet＇s Kindergarten Teachers Came to Inland Preschools for Internship Twenty-seven kindergarten teachers from the Tibet Autonomous Region （TAR） started their internship in early childhood education in the Kindergarten of Tianjin University in Tianjin on April 1.5, 2013 and will finish their internships in the next 45 days. After finishing the internships, they will go back to Tibet and work in the local kindergartens.

<正>Tibet Autonomous Region is a place of spectacular scenic beauty.I have had the privilege of visiting it four times.In addition,I have visited quite a few Tibetan areas outside Tibet,including in Qinghai,Sichuan,Gansu,and Yunnan.My visits to the Tibetan areas of China span the years 1985 to 2011.

Tibetan Graduates Enjoyed Special Job Fair to Obtain Employment Beijing, Shanghai and Hebei Province jointly held a special job fair for Tibetan college graduates in Lhasa, Tibet Autonomous Region （TAR） on Jun. 14, 2014. Altogether 135 employers from the three provinces provide 662 jobs for the Tibetan graduates according to their education baekground and major.

NUMBER OF TIBETAN ANTELOPES IN TIBET EXCEEDS 200,000

With the Tibet Autonomous Region's increasing efforts and initiatives to protect wildlife in recent years,the Tibetan antelope population in Tibet has increased from around 50,000 in the 1990s to over 200,000 today.The number of Tibetan wild donkeys has increased from around 50,000 to around 90,000.The number of black-necked cranes has increased from less than 3,000 to around 8,000.The number of wild yaks has increased to around 10,000.Populations of snow leopards,rock sheep and other wild animals have also seen a marked recovery.

From the opening traffic of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway,a major restriction on transportation to and from Tibet was finally removed. Such a change has had a massive impact on the economy of the Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) as a whole and,in particular,on the rural Tibetans.In other words,the railway became a leading force in the re- structure and advancement of the Tibetan economy.
