Tibetan Buddhists have long believed that building mChod-rtens is a way to accumulate virtues and merits, so both religious and secular people value them. Therefore, Tibet has become one of the most densely located areas of Stupas in the world, mChodrtens, varied in size and form, are found everywhere in Tibetan-inhabited regions. This distinct type of Stupa is not only an object of worship, or a peculiar form of architecture, but also a building with deep symbolic significance in Tibetan Buddhism, thus it is called Tibetan Stupa.  相似文献

So, at the end of the year 2000, they accepted a small project that they have been working with and supporting since with success. The cooperation of local authorities (Lhundrup and Medrogongkar)at every stage and level also contributed enormously to the achievements of the project, It must be underlined that although the sponsors are Europeans and there is one foreigner working with inPSTTM, the work and expertise are solely based on local Tibetan and Chinese knowledge. The economic development in the cities and towns offers a lot of opportunities for rural migrant workers in Tibet. Working in towns has become an importantmeans for the Tibetan rural labor force to boost their incomes. With the advantages of possessing many trades, low employment requirement and high flexibility, in some larger Tibetan cities like Lhasa and Shigatse, tertiary industry has accepted more and more people from the countryside and thus has become the major channel to employment for rural migrant workers. Thereby the catering industry has become the first area to be chosen by many Tibetan rural workers who go to town for the first time.  相似文献

According to local custom in Lhasa, people refer to the area around the Jokhang Temple as "Barkor Street". "Lhasa" is "the Buddha's land" in Tibetan. In the hearts of Tibetan people, the Jokhang Temple is one of the most holy places because a statue of the twelve-year-old Sakyamuni is enshrined and worshiped there. Every year, the temple attracts many Tibetan Buddhist monks and disciples come from far away and pay homage to the Buddha. As time passed, the area of Barkor Street around the Jokhang Temple has become the busiest district in Lhasa. Eight alleyways extend out from the Barkor Street. Here the old citizens of Lhasa reside, and this is where Lhasa's unique economy, national culture, traditional craftsmanship and local Tibetan customs and practices flourish.  相似文献

1.Introduction Rural livelihoods in Tibet2 have, during the last fifteen years, undergone fast and profound processes of economic transformation and state-led modernization, both in the TAR and the Eastern parts of the Tibetan plateau.Local life styles have changed at a pace rarely seen in an area where people subsisted, until the late 1990s,almost entirely on nomadic mobile livestock production.New local socio-economic structures with peculiar characteristics have emerged. They include the decline of traditional livestock-based (mobile) pastoralism;the emergence of a ‘post-pastoral’ economy based on the extraction of medicinal fungi for Chinese and international markets;and the emergence, often from below,of new arrangements governing rangeland access and usage.  相似文献
