Lhoza Bids Farewell to Poverty

Lhoza, on the Sino-Bhutan border covering an area of 4,466 square km and with an average elevation of 3,825 meters, used to be one of the poorest counties in Tibet. Not long ago, my colleagues and I visited Lhoza County in Shannan Prefecture. We were astonished to see the streets were flanked by restaurants, Internet bars, Karaoke halls, Langma halls and food markets. We stayed there for a week and interviewed County Magistrate Norgyi, a medium-sized man quick in mind.

New Archaeological Finds in Xianquanhe River Valley

Xianquanhe River in Ngari of Tibet got its name because of the valley at its head that looks like an elephant trunk. Construction of the New Village of Pashod

The word ＂Pashod＂ in Tibetan translates as ＂the village under the feet of warriors＂. Pashod County is situated in southeast Tibet. National highways No. 318 and No. 214 cross it. Three villages were selected to do the field research in Tibet Autonomous Region： Khorchak village and Shide Village in Purang Town, Purang County, and Kungyal Village in Hor County. Close to India and IO km from Nepal, the first two villages, Khorchak and Shide, are situated I8 kilometers from Purang County, along the downstream of Peacock River, one of the four major rivers in All. With average altitude of 3850 meters in plateau subfrigid arid climate, these two beautiful villages fall into the category of farming- pastoral area and their productive structure is settled/grazing, herding sheep, goat, cow and etc. Kungyal Village, II5 kilometers to the east of Purang County government, altitude 4670, plateau subfrigid arid climate, is a typical pastoral area and its productive structure is nomad or seasonal nomad, herding yak, sheep goat and etc. These three villages were chosen due to their representative features.
