Back in 2014,during the opening ceremony for the Tibet Yak Museum,a hoard of guests came in from Beijing as well as from areas throughout China.An adequate venue for accommodation for such a large event was an absolute must.Tibet Hotel was one suggestion.The location of its grounds was rather close to the museum's campus.The idea indeed made it convenient to hold various sorts of activities,regardless of the fact the hotel was somewhat old with little to no luxurious facilities,though the staff is known for excellent service.     

MY TIBETAN MOTHER KELSANG

In his youth, he worked for sixteen years in northern Tibet where he put his heart and soul into this snow-covered plateau. According to his friends, it is impossible to give a complete portrayal of his life with limited words. He is Wu Yuchu, head of the Yok Museum of Tibet. Mr. Wu is known as"Mr. Yak", a mon in his 60s working tirelessly for the preservation and promotion of yak culture.In 2017, Mr. Wu agreed to start writing a column called"Colorful Choracters of Tibet"about real Tibetan people he knew over the years on China'sTibet magozine. We will select some of the bestpieces to share with our readers.     

MY VIEWS ON THE FIRST CHINA TIBETAN CULTURE FORUM

From October 10th to 19th in 2006,the First China Tibetan Culture Forum was held at Beijing and then at Lhasa. Over one hundred of scholars,experts,intellectuals,and board members of the China Association for Preservation and Development of Tibetan Culture attended to forum. Participants were from Mainland China,Hong Kong,Taiwan,and twelve other countries.

The Most Precious Cultural Relics and Donations On May 27,2019,a grand donation ceremony was held in Lhasa.Jewon Koodhor Gelek Gyatso,a man known to be the reincarnated spirit of Champa Ling Monastery in Chamdo,made the generous donation as a member of the 13th CPPCC National Committee,the TAR's CPPCC Standing Committee,and the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office.He also concurrently serves as the vice chairman of the TAR's branch of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office and has been warmly welcomed back to his motherland from a life abroad.At the ceremony,the local government of the Tibet Autonomous Region issued Jewon Koodhor Gelek Gyatso a certificate of honor.

THE SIXTH INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR ON TIBETAN STUDIES PUSHING FORWARD THE DEVELOPMENT OF TIBETAN STUDIES

城和市都兴起很早,二者之间也没有关系。由于西周时代城内设市,就出现了中国早期的城市。"城市"一词起源于战国,即设市之城邑谓之城市。     

ELASTIC EARTH PRESSURES ON RIGID WALLS UNDER EARTHQUAKE LOADING

Elastic dynamic earth pressures induced by earthquakes are computed by analyzing a wall-foundation-backfill system. Both foundation and backfill are considered viscoelastic; the foundation is a semi-infinite space and the backfill, a uniform layer of constant thickness. A simple analytical solution is developed by assuming an approximate backfill-foundation interface condition and adopting the least squares method. The response functions computed indicate the large influence of the various system parameters on earth pressure, including the foundation characteristics,as well as wall geometry and mass. The transient response of the system is also studied by obtaining spectra for base shear. A large number of seismic records are analyzed to obtain average spectra and a total of three correction functions are used to take into account the foundation stiffness and density as well as wall inertia. A simple design method is proposed to estimate the maximum base shear.
