This paper studies the effects of soil layering in the basin based on the characteristics of basin-edge induced surface waves and associated differential ground motion. Seismic responses of various basin-edge models were simulated using software based on parsimonious finite difference staggered grid approximation of 2.5D eiastodynamic wave equation. Seismic responses of various models with different number of soil/soft rock layers but for a fixed thickness of deposit, fundamental frequency and impedance contrast revealed a decrease of surface wave amplitude with an increase in the number of layers in the basin. Shifting of dominant frequency towards the higher values was obtained with an increase of number of layers. An increase of dispersion of surface waves with an increase of number of soil layers in the basin was observed. A minor increase of Rayleigh wave velocity with an increase of number of soil layers was also obtained, but in the case of Love wave it was almost negligible.

Spectral analysis of the edge-induced surface waves revealed that the anomalous earthquake intensity may arise in a zone of width of 2.5–3.0 km, parallel to basin-edge and at an offset of 0.5–0.7 km from the edge. Maximum horizontal differential ground motion (HDGM) developed by Love wave (≈4.9×10?2) was more than that of Rayleigh wave (≈9.4×10?3). Large variation in HDGM caused by the surface waves was obtained with a change in the number of layers in the basin and maximum HDGM was observed when there were only two layers in the basin. It was inferred that the effect of soil layering in the basin was more on the Rayleigh wave as compared to the Love wave. Development of large HDGM near the basin-edge and its dependency on the number of soil layers reveals that basin-edge induced surface waves need special attention during seismic microzonation or seismic hazard prediction.  相似文献

The seismic response of two tall steel moment frame buildings and their variants is explored through parametric nonlinear analysis using idealized sawtooth-like ground velocity waveforms, with a characteristic period (T), amplitude (peak ground velocity, PGV), and duration (number of cycles, N). Collapse-level response is induced only by long-period, moderate to large PGV ground excitation. This agrees well with a simple energy balance analysis. The collapse initiation regime expands to lower ground motion periods and amplitudes with increasing number of ground motion cycles.  相似文献

In this paper, the damage potential of an earthquake ground motion is evaluated in terms of the total power of the acceleration of the ground motion. By assuming an appropriate spectral shape for the input energy spectrum, and using the well-known Parseval theorem for evaluating the total power of a random signal, the peak amplification factor for the equivalent input energy velocity spectrum can be determined. It is shown that the peak amplification factor for the input energy spectrum depends on the peak-ground-acceleration to peak-ground-velocity ratio and duration of the strong motion phase of the ground motion. Values for the equivalent input energy velocity amplification factor vary from about 2 to 10 for most of the recorded ground motions used in this study. Although a considerable scatter of data is observed in this study, the peak amplification factor predicted by the Fourier amplitude spectrum of the ground acceleration provides a fairly good estimate of the mean value of the peak input energy compared to that determined from inelastic dynamic time history analyses, particularly for systems with high damping and low lateral strength. The peak amplification factor derived in this paper provides a more consistent approach for estimation of seismic demand when compared to an earlier empirical expression used for the formulation of duration-dependent inelastic seismic design spectra, even though only a slight difference in the required lateral strength results from the use of the new formula.  相似文献

Perth is the largest city in Western Australia and home to three-quarters of the state's residents. In recent decades, there have been a lot of earthquake activities just east of Perth in an area known as the South-West Seismic Zone. Previous numerical results of site response analyses based on limited available geology information for PMA indicated that Perth Basin might amplify the bedrock motion by more than 10 times at some frequencies and at some sites. Hence, more detailed studies on site characterization and amplification are necessary. The microtremor method using spatial autocorrelation (SPAC) processing is a useful tool for gaining thickness and shear wave velocity (SWV) of sediments and has been adopted in many previous studies. In this study, the response spectrum of rock site corresponding to the 475-year return period for PMA is defined according to the probabilistic seismic hazard analysis (PSHA) based on the latest ground motion attenuation model of Southwest Western Australia. Site characterization in PMA is performed using two microtremor measurements, namely SPAC technique and H/V method. The clonal selection algorithm (CSA) is introduced to perform direct inversion of SPAC curves to determine the soil profiles of representative PMA sites investigated in this study. Using the simulated bedrock motion as input, the responses of the soil sites are estimated using numerical method based on the shear-wave velocity vs. depth profiles determined from the SPAC technique. The response spectrum of the earthquake ground motion on surface of each site is derived from the numerical results of the site response analysis, and compared with the respective design spectrum defined in the Australian Earthquake Loading Code. The comparison shows that the code spectra are conservative in the short period range, but may slightly underestimate the response spectrum at some long period range.  相似文献

As only a very limited number of earthquake strong ground motion records are available in southwest Western Australia (SWWA), it is difficult to derive a reliable and unbiased strong ground motion attenuation model based on these data. To overcome this, in this study a combined approach is used to simulate ground motions. First, the stochastic approach is used to simulate ground motion time histories at various epicentral distances from small earthquake events. Then, the Green's function method, with the stochastically simulated time histories as input, is used to generate large event ground motion time histories. Comparing the Fourier spectra of the simulated motions with the recorded motions of a ML6.2 event in Cadoux in June 1979 and a ML5.5 event in Meckering in January 1990, provides good evidence in support of this method. This approach is then used to simulate a series of ground motion time histories from earthquakes of varying magnitudes and distances. From the regression analyses of these simulated data, the attenuation relations of peak ground acceleration (PGA), peak ground velocity (PGV), and response spectrum of ground motions on rock site in SWWA are derived.  相似文献

甘肃石窟分布广泛,洞窟大多开凿在砂岩上。在长期自然环境作用下,砂岩石窟表面风化严重,有部分区域甚至风化成砂土,砂岩石窟浅表层风化防治将成为重要的研究方向。本工作针对北石窟寺砂岩典型风化病害,选用0.5%羟甲基纤维素、5%砂岩加固材料、1.5%有机硅改性丙烯酸、1.5%丙烯酸、20%纳米SiO2、10%正硅酸乙酯、3%PS共7种保护材料,基于室内试验测试这些材料的防风化性能,以加固前后宏观和微观特征进行定性描述,以色度、体积变化率、波速、表面硬度、抗压强度、透气性和吸水性作为加固定量评价指标,优选出砂岩加固材料、有机硅改性丙烯酸、纳米SiO2、PS和正硅酸乙酯作为北石窟砂岩表面防风化加固建议材料。研究结果为北石窟寺砂岩质石窟表面防风化技术研发与应用积累了基础研究数据。  相似文献

Periodic amplitude fluctuations of VHF signals from a geostationary satellite monitored from near the magnetic equator have been observed in the evening hours as precursors of strong Rayleigh fading associated with plumes of irregularities. These periodic fluctuations called “amplitude waves” exhibit amplitude changes of only 1 to 2 dB and have been observed for up to 30 minutes before the onset of strong scintillations. Individual fades are correlated over distances of at least 120 km in the magnetic eastwest direction. The velocity of these wavelike disturbances has been found to be approximately 140 ms−1 eastward with a corresponding wavelength of 25 km. No wavelike behavior of Faraday rotation, a measure of the background changes in TEC, was observed during these times. Several mechanisms are examined as the cause of these amplitude waves; however, none was found to be completely satisfactory in explaining the observations.  相似文献

A robust debate among coastal geomorphologists as to the processes by which beach‐ridge plains around Australia have formed was initiated by a former President of the Institute of Australian Geographers. This review gives special consideration to the work of Jack L. Davies, whose academic contributions to coastal geomorphology in Australia have not always been appropriately acknowledged when explaining how similar plains have evolved elsewhere in the world. Davies recognised that relatively steep storm waves caused erosion (cut) on beaches, whereas less steep long‐period swell waves returned sand (fill). He considered the beach berm to be the nucleus on which a beach ridge formed, which could subsequently develop into a foredune, in contrast to cobble ridges that were deposited during storms. Offshore conditions regulate supply of sand to the shoreline, partly through effects on wave refraction, with higher rates of supply where the nearshore is shallow. It was apparent to Davies that the elevation of successive ridges might, but not necessarily, provide evidence of past changes of sea level, despite adornment by variable amounts of windblown dune sand. Morphodynamic understanding of long‐term coastal evolution, based on radiocarbon dating chronologies, has demonstrated that Australian coastal plains formed over the past ~6,000 years when sea level has been close to its present level, in contrast to several documented locations in the northern hemisphere where the sea has been rising for the past few millennia. Particularly insightful were observations by Davies that ridge formation could be influenced by a range of factors including changes in sea level, storminess, or sediment supply. These factors acting singly or in combination seem likely to change in the future. Understanding such responses remains a high priority and can be addressed by new technologies, such as light detection and ranging, optically stimulated luminescence dating, ground‐penetrating radar, and computer simulation.  相似文献

This paper shows the results of two passive experiments carried out at the European Volvi test site where a scaled building has been constructed. The first experiment was performed to study the motion of the structure excited by two small earthquakes. For one month, six strong-motion recorders were installed within the structure, at the top and at the basement. The analysis of the deformation of the structure has been assessed by computing the spectral ratio between the top and the bottom, with a special focus on soil-structure interaction. An analytical model was then proposed to reproduce the structure and soil-structure system behaviour. The soil-structure interaction was accounted for by using impedance functions. During the second experiment, we concentrated our efforts on the effect of the building vibration on the surface ground motion. An explosive shot was fired and several strong-motion recorders were installed on the ground close to the structure that allowed us to clearly identify a monochromatic wave coming from the building, in the time and frequency domains. This experiment allows us to demonstrate the non-negligible effect of the soil-structure-soil interaction that may disturb the surrounding ground motion.  相似文献

This article presents the effects of sediment-damping, impedance-contrast (IC), and size of semi-spherical (SS) basin on the focusing and trapping of the basin-generated surface (BGS) waves and the spatial-variation of average-spectral-amplification (ASA), differential ground motion (DGM), and average-aggravation-factor (AAF). A frequency-dependent focusing of the BGS-wave is inferred. Increase of ASA, DGM, and AAF with increase of size of the SS-basin with a fixed-shape-ratio revealed that the BGS-wave focusing has counter-balanced the sediment-damping effects. It is concluded that the BGS-wave focusing and trapping in the SS-basin is more sensitive to change of IC as compared to the similar change of sediment-damping.  相似文献

The vallum is a major earthwork along the south side of Hadrian's Wall. All surface traces of it have been obliterated over a 500-m-long stretch past the fort of Vindobala at Rudchester, Northumberland. To the west of the fort, the vallum's course had previously been delineated by running shear-wave seismic refraction lines to obtain depth profiles of rockhead. We have now run more seismic refraction lines, using both shear waves and compressional waves, to the south-west and south of the fort, and thereby located the complete course of the vallum at Vindobala. The seismic refraction technique is successful at this site because the glacial drift cover is thin, so the vallum ditch was cut down into bedrock. During the second phase of seismic work, compressional waves gave better results than shear waves. Previously, test profiles using compressional waves had failed to locate the vallum ditch west of the fort where the surface elevation is lower; we now interpret that failure as being due to a shallow water table within the drift, which would have eliminated the compressional-wave velocity anomaly. Although the vallum does not pre-date the fort at Vindobala, its asymmetrical course around the fort suggests that it may already have been under construction to the west when the decision to build the fort was taken.  相似文献

本文对13件河南平顶山应国墓地出土的玉器残片进行了测试分析,结果表明:透闪石玉是应国玉器的主要玉种,不同材质的玉器均受到一定程度的风化,其中,蛇纹石玉器普遍受沁严重,较透闪石玉器受沁为深,且受沁严重的透闪石玉器与蛇纹石玉器在外观上有很大的相似性;所有玉器表面均附着朱砂,可能当时人们已经认识到朱砂的防虫防腐功能.  相似文献

The causality of natural ground motions is evaluated through statistical values for the phase difference. The causality is expressed in terms of the Hilbert transform relationship between the real and imaginary parts of the Fourier transform of the ground motion. We find that ground motions with a shorter duration have a higher degree of causality. Furthermore, we propose a ground-motion simulation algorithm that incorporates causality. The simulated ground motions, compatible with design response spectra, have almost the same spectrum conversion factors as those estimated from natural ground motions.  相似文献

The 2011 great Japan Tohoku earthquake is not only the most devastating but also, one of the best recorded earthquakes in the history of seismology. A thorough study of strong motion characteristics of this earthquake is conducted using 20 well established ground motion parameters (GMPs). The behaviour of these parameters with fault distance and average shear wave velocity is examined and attenuation relationships are developed using the 1172 surface level strong motion records. In addition, all GMPs are categorized on a statistical basis using principal component analysis, which is further used to rate the damage potential of ground motion records.  相似文献

云冈石窟盐害机理研究对于治理策略选择具有重要意义,为探析云冈石窟风化砂岩破坏形式与岩面伴生盐类析出物的关系,本工作采用XRD法进行了矿物组成的半定量测试,采用酸碱中和法进行了CO2含量测定,另外采用XRD进行了盐类矿物和硅酸盐矿物定性鉴定,试图探析云冈石窟风化砂岩破坏形式与岩面伴生盐类析出物的关系。结果显示:云冈石窟岩面片状风化与砂岩碳酸盐含量高有关,而粉状风化与岩石中石膏含量高有关,不同盐类结晶析出与洞窟环境有关,这些研究结果对云冈石窟风化病害治理有借鉴意义。  相似文献

This paper deals with the evaluation of two-dimensional site-effects due to the seismic interaction between hills with various configurations and underground cavities. The time-domain boundary element method is used to evaluate the site-effects of hill-cavity interaction subjected to vertically propagating in-plane SV and P waves. The presence of an underground cavity and the hill topography are expected to induce significant effects on the surface ground motion. To further examine the contribution of the amplification ratio of the hill-cavity system, a fairly simple approach, which can compute the response spectra of the hill’s surface motion above a cavity based on the real input motions, is also used to input motions.  相似文献

The duration of strong ground shaking during earthquakes can play an important role in the response of foundation materials and structures, particularly when strength or stiffness degradation is encountered. A thorough seismic hazard assessment should therefore include an estimation of the expected duration of strong motion, which first requires criteria to define the part of an accelerogram considered to represent the duration of strong ground motion. Some 30 different definitions of strong motion duration are reviewed and classified into generic groups. Problems that arise with the use of these definitions for duration are highlighted. A new definition of duration is presented using a previously unexplored option which identifies the part of the record where the main energy is contained and constrains this strong shaking phase by absolute criteria. This new definition is shown to give consistently meaningful durations for strong earthquake accelerograms from an engineering viewpoint. The correlations between the new definition of duration and magnitude, soil conditions and distance are explored as a first step towards the development of predictive equations.  相似文献

风化砂岩文物的加固是文物保护的重要课题。在本研究中,选择与严重风化的云冈石窟石质文物材质相同的新鲜砂岩为研究对象,采用化学加速风化方法将石质试样进行风化模拟处理,使其风化程度接近于石窟文物本体。利用4种硅酸酯类加固材料和7种实验室工艺条件,对风化模拟石质试样进行加固处理。对处理后的石质试样进行渗透深度、色差、耐盐性、耐紫外老化、无侧限抗压强度性能测试,评估各材料与实验室工艺加固效果。经研究表明:不同材料对风化砂岩均有加固效果,其中硅酸乙酯及其低聚物材料加固作用明显;同种材料、不同实验室工艺条件下加固效果却不一样,减压浸渍法实验室工艺的加固效果最大。本工作结果将为砂岩类石质文物现场加固保护提供科学基础数据。  相似文献

Zenith observations of the oxygen λ1630 nm auroral/airglow emission (produced at an altitude of ∼220 to ∼250 km) were obtained with the Mawson Fabry-Perot Spectrometer (FPS) during three ‘zenith direction only’ observing campaigns in 1993. The data show many instances of strong (50 to 100 m s−1) upwellings in the vertical wind, when the auroral oval is located equatorward of the zenith. Our data appear consistent with the existence of a region of upwelling up to ∼ 4° poleward of the poleward boundary of the visible auroral oval, rather than short duration, explosive heating events. The upwellings are probably the vertical component of wind shear produced by reversal of the zonal thermospheric winds, which occurs near the poleward boundary of the visible auroral oval. Zenith temperature was also seen to increase when the oval was equatorward of Mawson, showing rises of up to 300 K or more. However, this increase is at times unrelated to the upwellings, and seems to be caused by the expansion of the warm polar cap over the observing site.On a number of nights the boundary between the polar cap and the auroral oval was observed to pass over our site several times, occasionally showing a quasi-periodic expansion and contraction. We speculate that this quasi-periodic movement may be related to periodic auroral activity that is known to generate large-scale gravity waves.  相似文献
