In this paper, an innovative displacement-based adaptive pushover procedure, whereby a set of laterally applied displacements, rather than forces, is monotonically applied to the structure, is presented. The integrity of the analysis algorithm is verified through an extensive comparative study involving static and dynamic nonlinear analysis of 12 rein-forced concrete buildings subjected to four diverse acceleration records. It is shown that the new approach manages to provide much improved response predictions, throughout the entire deformation range, in comparison to those obtained by force-based methods. In addition, the proposed algorithm proved to be numerically stable, even in the highly inelastic region, whereas the additional modelling and computational effort, with respect to conventional pushover procedures, is negligible. This novel adaptive pushover method is therefore shown to constitute an appealing displacement-based tool for structural assessment, fully in line with the recently introduced deformation- and performance-oriented trends in the field of earthquake engineering.  相似文献

This article presents the comparison among different nonlinear seismic analysis methods applied to masonry buildings, i.e., pushover analyses with invariant lateral force distributions, adaptive pushover analysis and nonlinear dynamic analysis. The study focuses on the influence of lateral force distribution on the results of the pushover analysis. Two simple benchmark case studies are considered for the purpose of the research, i.e., a four-wall masonry building prototype without floor rigid diaphragms and a two-wall system with a cross-vault. The comparative study offers a useful review of pushover analysis methods for masonry structures and shows advantages and possible limitations of each approach.  相似文献

In this paper, the methodology for evaluation of conventional and adaptive pushover analysis presented in a companion paper is applied to a set of eight different reinforced concrete buildings, covering various levels of irregularity in plan and elevation, structural ductility and directional effects. An extensive series of pushover analysis results, monitored on various levels is presented and compared to inelastic dynamic analysis under various strong motion records, using a new quantitative measure. It is concluded that advanced (adaptive) pushover analysis often gives results superior to those from conventional pushover. However, the consistency of the improvement is unreliable. It is also emphasised that global response parameter comparisons often give an incomplete and sometimes even misleading impression of the performance.  相似文献

Considering the likely unfavorable behavior under seismic action of adobe construction, this article aims at providing a seismic fragility characterization of two adobe Portuguese traditional buildings, using numerical models calibrated over experimental results. The study of such two case-study buildings in the region of Aveiro contributes to the understanding of the seismic fragility of adobe construction in the region in general. The buildings were numerically modeled to estimate their structural behavior under seismic loading using adobe material properties that were calibrated based on the experimental results of a cyclic in-plane test of a full-scale double-Tshaped adobe wall. The method chosen to characterize adobe masonry and model its nonlinear behavior followed a total strain crack-based macro-modeling (TSCM) approach, whereas pushover analysis was carried out to reproduce the pseudo-static experimental test in order to enable a refined calibration of adobe masonry mechanical properties. Fragility functions were then derived, based on the above-mentioned numerical models, using nonlinear static analysis, bringing further insight on the seismic fragility of traditional Portuguese adobe construction.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The paper analyzes the static behavior and the seismic vulnerability of the “San Francesco ad Alto” building in Ancona (Italy), which is currently used as a Regional Headquarter of the Marche Region by the Italian Army and was formerly a monastery. The global static structural behavior and the dynamic properties have been evaluated using the Finite Element modeling technique, in which the nonlinear behavior of masonry has been taken into account by proper constitutive laws. The concepts of homogenized material and smeared cracking are used to evaluate the capacity of the monastery to withstand lateral loads together with the expected demands resulting from seismic actions (N2 method), using a nonlinear static analysis (pushover). The comparison of seismic demand and capacity confirms the susceptibility of these types of buildings to extensive damage and collapse, as frequently observed in similar buildings. This paper aims to point out that advanced numerical analyses can offer significant information on the understanding of the actual structural behavior of historical buildings. It is believed that the methodology and the overall conclusions of this case study are valid for many historical monasteries in Europe.  相似文献

A simplified analysis procedure for evaluating the nonlinear seismic responses of tall reinforced concrete (RC) buildings is examined in this study. It is called the Uncoupled Modal Response History Analysis (UMRHA) procedure. It can be viewed as an extended version of the classical modal analysis procedure, where the nonlinear response of each vibration mode is first computed, and they are later on combined into the total response of the structure. The procedure requires the knowledge of the modal hysteretic behavior, which can be obtained from a cyclic modal pushover analysis. The responses of four tall buildings in Bangkok to distant large earthquakes are computed by this procedure and compared with those obtained from the Nonlinear Response History Analysis (NLRHA) procedure. These four buildings have different heights—varying from 20 to 44 stories, different configurations of floor plan, and different arrangement of RC walls. The comparison shows that the UMRHA procedure is able to accurately compute the story shears and story overturning moments, floor accelerations, and inter-story drifts of all these tall buildings. The required computational effort is also extremely low compared to that of the NLRHA procedure. Moreover, since the UMRHA procedure computes the response of each individual vibration mode, it provides more understanding and insight into the complex nonlinear seismic responses of these tall buildings.  相似文献

The Uncoupled Modal Response History Analysis (UMRHA) method developed by Chopra et al. is modified in this paper to estimate damage to welded moment-resisting connections in a steel frame (MRSF) subjected to earthquake ground motions. The behaviour of these connections is modelled by a moment-rotation relationship that accounts for the cracking of the beam flange-to-column flange groove weld. The behaviour of the frame is approximated by a sequence of single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) models for the first three modes to allow for the contribution of higher modes of vibration. The dynamic properties of these SDOF systems are determined by nonlinear static pushover analyses of the building frame. Because of the significant drop in connection strength caused by beam-to-column weld cracking, the pushover procedure uses a changing rather than invariant distribution of horizontal loads, while the structural responses are calculated from shapes that are based on the displaced shape of the frame after damage occurs. The accuracy of the method is demonstrated by a comparison with the results of a nonlinear time history analysis of the frame. This method can be used for rapid assessment of seismic damage or damage potential and to identify buildings requiring more detailed investigation.  相似文献

In this paper, a methodology is suggested and tested for evaluating the relative performance of conventional and adaptive pushover methods for seismic response assessment. The basis of the evaluation procedure is a quantitative measure for the difference in response between these methods and inelastic dynamic analysis which is deemed to be the most accurate. Various structural levels of evaluation and different incremental representations for dynamic analysis are also suggested. This method is applied on a set of eight different reinforced concrete structural systems subjected to various strong motion records. Sample results are presented and discussed while the full results are presented alongside conclusions and recommendations, in a companion paper.  相似文献

A simplified approach for analyzing the nonlinear response of masonry buildings, based on the equivalent frame modeling procedure and on the nonlinear equivalent static analyses, is presented. A nonlinear beam finite element (FE) is formulated in the framework of a force-based approach, where the stress fields are expanded along the beam local axis, and introduced in a global displacement-based FE code. In order to model the nonlinear constitutive response of the masonry material, the lumped hinge approach is adopted and both flexural and shear plastic hinges are located at the two end nodes of the beam. A classical elastic-plastic constitutive relationship describes the nonlinear response of the hinges, the evolution of the plastic variables being governed by the Kuhn-Tucker and consistency conditions. An efficient element state determination procedure is implemented, which condenses the local deformation residual into the global residual vector, thus avoiding the need to perform the inner loops for computing the element nonlinear response. The comparison with some relevant experimental and real full-scale masonry walls is presented, obtaining a very good agreement with the available results, both in terms of global pushover curves and damage distributions.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The protection of cultural heritage against earthquake induced actions is one of the main challenges the earthquake engineering science and practice are facing. This article presents a seismic assessment study on one of the most ancient colonial buildings present in Peru, the Cathedral of Lima, focusing on its towers. A historical review highlighted how these structures, together with the whole Cathedral, suffered intense damage and partial collapse during previous earthquakes. In order to identify the structure main deficiencies, both linear kinematic analyses and nonlinear static analyses have been performed. Different nonlinear finite element models have been created to evaluate the influence of the adjacent walls. Different load distributions have been compared to evaluate how simplified patterns could provide results close to load distributions taken from a modal analysis of the complex. A simple retrofit strategy, consisting on the introduction of steel ties, has also been studied as a reference. Results show good correlation between kinematic and pushover analyses. The construction, when compared to the requirements of the national code for new buildings, results significantly vulnerable, pointing out the need to accept some structural damage even after seismic retrofit.  相似文献

This paper presents a study on the techno-economic efficiency of seismic strengthening techniques for old residential buildings, with application to construction typologies in Lisbon (stone masonry and “Placa” buildings). A comprehensive review on strengthening techniques and implications for the seismic behavior is made. Different strengthening schemes are implicitly simulated within equivalent frame models of the representative buildings. Then, pushover analysis is applied in order to compare the seismic performance of the buildings, before and after strengthening. A cost-benefit analysis of the strengthening solutions is finally performed, comparing the economic benefit gained by reducing the seismic damage, against the intervention cost.  相似文献

In this paper, a fairly effective procedure called dynamic load pattern (DLP), is proposed to account for the effects of near-fault ground motions in estimating the seismic demands of structures from pushover analyses. The seismic demands are obtained by enveloping the results of single-run conventional first-mode and single-run DLP pushover analyses. Improving the estimation of target displacement is another objective, implemented by performing response-spectrum analysis. Three special steel moment-resisting frames are considered and the seismic demands resulting from DLP are compared to those from the nonlinear time-history analysis as a benchmark solution, as well as to those predicted from modal pushover analysis.  相似文献

According to the most of current seismic codes, nonlinear soil behavior is commonly ignored in seismic evaluation procedure of the structures. To contribute on this matter, a pushover analysis method incorporating the probabilistic seismic hazard analysis (PSHA) is proposed to evaluate the effect of nonlinear soil response on seismic performance of a structure. The PSHA outcomes considering soil nonlinearity effect is involved in the analysis procedures by modifying the site-specific response spectrum. Results showed that incorporation of nonlinear soil behavior leads to an increase in displacement demand of structures which should accurately be considered in seismic design/assessment procedure. Results of implemented procedure are confirmed with the estimated displacement demand including soil-structure interaction (SSI).  相似文献

A five-storey steel frame incorporating dissipative knee elements is designed using the Eurocode 8 pushover analysis method. The non-linear analysis makes use of a novel knee element model capable of accurately simulating the bending and shear behaviour observed in full-scale tests. The performance of the structure is assessed using non-linear time-history analysis. This shows that the knee elements can be designed to yield under small earthquakes or early in a strong one (maximising their energy dissipation) while still being able to withstand a large event without collapse. Knee elements thus have the potential to give excellent seismic performance in steel framed structures. The time history analysis results are compared to those obtained with the three different pushover analysis methods (Eurocode 8, FEMA 356 and ATC 40). The FEMA 356 method, which includes a more accurate representation of the structure's significant post-yield stiffness, gave the closest agreement with the time history analyses, while the Eurocode 8 method gave rather conservative results and the ATC 40 method appears non-conservative for this type of structure.  相似文献

The applicability of different pushover methods was analyzed on the example of a bridge, which was experimentally tested on three shake tables at the University of Nevada, Reno. The response of the bridge was quite complex. The intensity as well as the direction of the deck torsional rotations varied significantly, depending on the seismic intensity. At the low intensities, all the employed pushover methods estimated the displacements of the deck very well. In the case of strong earthquakes, the advantages of multi-mode and adaptive methods was demonstrated.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Observations after strong earthquakes show that out-of-plane failure of unreinforced masonry elements probably constitutes the most serious life-safety hazard for this type of construction. Existing unreinforced masonry buildings tend to be more vulnerable than new buildings, not only because they have been designed to little or no seismic loading requirements, but also because connections among load-bearing walls and with horizontal structures are not always adequate. Consequently, several types of mechanisms can be activated due to separation from the rest of the construction. Even when connections are effective, out-of-plane failure can be induced by excessive vertical and/or horizontal slenderness of walls (length/thickness ratio). The awareness of such vulnerability has encouraged research in the field, which is summarized in this article. An outline of past research on force-based and displacement-based assessment is given and their translation into international codes is summarized. Strong and weak points of codified assessment procedures are presented through a comparison with parametric nonlinear dynamic analyses of three recurring out-of-plane mechanisms. The assessment strategies are marked by substantial scatter, which can be reduced through an energy-based assessment.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This paper discusses the seismic risk assessment of a Basilica-type church according to the provisions of the Italian Guidelines. A comparison between the results obtained with local and global approaches is reported, based on a knowledge process aimed to characterize the geometric and mechanical parameters required for a reliable structural analysis. To perform the global analyses the finite element technique was employed, with proper assumptions to account for the nonlinear behavior of masonry. Illustrating a case study, the paper critically discusses about the employability of pushover analysis methods for the seismic assessment of basilica-type churches.  相似文献

This article describes a simplified procedure for estimating the seismic sidesway collapse capacity of frame building structures incorporating linear viscous dampers. The proposed procedure is based on a robust database of seismic peak displacement responses of viscously damped nonlinear single-degree-of-freedom systems for various seismic intensities and uses nonlinear static (pushover) analysis without the need for nonlinear time history dynamic analysis. The proposed procedure is assessed by comparing its collapse capacity predictions on 272 different building models with those obtained from incremental dynamic analyses. A straightforward collapse capacity-based design procedure is also introduced for structures without extreme soft story irregularities.  相似文献

This article presents a new method for the calculation of the moment-rotation (M-θ) curves of URM elements using an analytical phenomenogical closed form solution for flexure, combined with a hybrid analytical-statistical model for shear. These are used to define the constitutive law of nonlinear springs located at the areas of lumped inelasticity of an equivalent frame model. The method constitutes an analytical design/assessment tool, to be used by the practicing engineer, for the pushover analysis of URM buildings. The proposed procedure is implemented as a pre-processor to a commercial nonlinear software codes capable of static pushover analysis using the point hinge approach.  相似文献

The seismic response of bridges is affected by a number of modeling considerations, such as pier embedment, buried pile caps, seat-type abutments, pounding, bond slip and architecturally flared part of piers, and loading considerations, such as non-uniform ground excitations and orientation of ground motion components, which are not readily addressed by design codes. This article addresses a methodology for the nonlinear static and dynamic analysis of a tall, long-span, curved, reinforced-concrete bridge, the Mogollon Rim Viaduct. Various modeling scenarios are considered for the bridge components, soil-structure interaction system, and materials, i.e., concrete and reinforcing steel, covering all its geotechnical and structural aspects based on recent advances in bridge engineering. Various analysis methodologies (nonlinear static pushover, time history response to uniform and spatially variable seismic excitations, and incremental dynamic analyses) are performed. For the dynamic analyses, a suite of nine earthquake accelerograms are selected and their characteristics are investigated using seismic intensity parameters. A recently developed approach for the generation of non-uniform seismic excitations, i.e., spatially variable simulations conditioned on the recorded time series, is used. Methods for the evaluation of structural performance are discussed and their limitations addressed. The numerical results of the seismic assessment of the Mogollon Rim Viaduct are presented in the companion article (Part II). The sensitivity of the bridge response to the adopted modeling, loading and analyzing strategies, as well as the correlation between structural damage and seismic intensity parameters are examined in detail.  相似文献
