An equivalent linearization procedure is developed for predicting the inelastic deformations and internal forces of capacity-designed structures under earthquake excitations. The procedure employs response spectrum analysis, and mainly consists of the construction of an equivalent linear system by reducing the stiffness of structural members that are expected to respond in the inelastic range. These members are well defined in structures designed with capacity principles. Maximum modal displacement demands of the equivalent linear system are determined either from the equal displacement rule, or from independent nonlinear response history analysis of SDOF systems representing inelastic modes.

Predictions obtained from the proposed equivalent linearization procedure are evaluated comparatively by using the results of nonlinear response history analysis as benchmark, linear elastic response spectrum analysis and conventional pushover analysis. The deformations and capacity controlled actions of a 12-story symmetrical plan concrete frame and a 6-story unsymmetrical plan concrete frame are obtained by each method under 96 strong ground motions. It is observed that the proposed procedure results in better accuracy in estimating the inelastic seismic displacement response parameters and capacity controlled forces than the other two approximate methods.  相似文献

A multi-link finite element contact model reproducing Jankowski’s nonlinear viscoelastic relationships is devised and implemented for a time-history analysis of seismic pounding. The mechanical and algorithmic parameters are calibrated with a numerical test case study, represented by two single-story R/C frames. A real case study, concerning two adjacent buildings representative of a stock of R/C multi-story frame structures with insufficient separation joints at rest, is then examined. A damped interconnection-based mitigation solution consisting in linking the two structures with fluid-viscous dissipaters is proposed. The benefits of this retrofit strategy are discussed by comparison with the response in original conditions.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to propose an extension of the displacement-based assessment procedure for infilled reinforced concrete (RC) frames. Two fundamental steps of the displacement-based approach were studied: the determination of the equivalent viscous damping and the definition of the limit-state displacement profile. The proposed criteria were derived by examining the results of two different numerical investigations regarding the nonlinear seismic response of single- and multi-story infilled RC frames. Lastly, the effectiveness of the method was verified through comparisons, in terms of displacement demand, with the results of nonlinear dynamic analyses.  相似文献

The Uncoupled Modal Response History Analysis (UMRHA) method developed by Chopra et al. is modified in this paper to estimate damage to welded moment-resisting connections in a steel frame (MRSF) subjected to earthquake ground motions. The behaviour of these connections is modelled by a moment-rotation relationship that accounts for the cracking of the beam flange-to-column flange groove weld. The behaviour of the frame is approximated by a sequence of single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) models for the first three modes to allow for the contribution of higher modes of vibration. The dynamic properties of these SDOF systems are determined by nonlinear static pushover analyses of the building frame. Because of the significant drop in connection strength caused by beam-to-column weld cracking, the pushover procedure uses a changing rather than invariant distribution of horizontal loads, while the structural responses are calculated from shapes that are based on the displaced shape of the frame after damage occurs. The accuracy of the method is demonstrated by a comparison with the results of a nonlinear time history analysis of the frame. This method can be used for rapid assessment of seismic damage or damage potential and to identify buildings requiring more detailed investigation.  相似文献

This article describes a novel, small-scale nonlinear beam-column connection and an associated six-story frame test structure for the experimental dynamic response investigation of multi-story buildings subjected to earthquake loading. The objective is to create a re-configurable, reusable experimental platform on which several aspects of nonlinear dynamic response can be investigated through successive, exhaustive testing under suites of earthquake records. Static and dynamic calibration tests demonstrate excellent test-to-test repeatability of four structure configurations. These results confirm that the properties of each configuration (period, strength, energy dissipation) remain invariant, thus allowing future experimental investigations (e.g., of peak engineering demands) under earthquake loading.  相似文献

A simplified approach for analyzing the nonlinear response of masonry buildings, based on the equivalent frame modeling procedure and on the nonlinear equivalent static analyses, is presented. A nonlinear beam finite element (FE) is formulated in the framework of a force-based approach, where the stress fields are expanded along the beam local axis, and introduced in a global displacement-based FE code. In order to model the nonlinear constitutive response of the masonry material, the lumped hinge approach is adopted and both flexural and shear plastic hinges are located at the two end nodes of the beam. A classical elastic-plastic constitutive relationship describes the nonlinear response of the hinges, the evolution of the plastic variables being governed by the Kuhn-Tucker and consistency conditions. An efficient element state determination procedure is implemented, which condenses the local deformation residual into the global residual vector, thus avoiding the need to perform the inner loops for computing the element nonlinear response. The comparison with some relevant experimental and real full-scale masonry walls is presented, obtaining a very good agreement with the available results, both in terms of global pushover curves and damage distributions.  相似文献

This article describes a simplified procedure for estimating the seismic sidesway collapse capacity of frame building structures incorporating linear viscous dampers. The proposed procedure is based on a robust database of seismic peak displacement responses of viscously damped nonlinear single-degree-of-freedom systems for various seismic intensities and uses nonlinear static (pushover) analysis without the need for nonlinear time history dynamic analysis. The proposed procedure is assessed by comparing its collapse capacity predictions on 272 different building models with those obtained from incremental dynamic analyses. A straightforward collapse capacity-based design procedure is also introduced for structures without extreme soft story irregularities.  相似文献

This article presents real-time hybrid simulation (RTHS) in a single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) steel frame incorporated with tuned liquid column damper (TLCD). The SDOF steel frame is numerically simulated, and the TLCD alone is physically experimented on a shaking table. The delay-dependent stability of RTHS system for TLCD investigation is first assessed; and the delay-dependent accuracy is verified by comparing the responses obtained through the RTHS, the conventional shaking table test, and an analytical solution. Then, RTHSs are carried out to evaluate the effects of mass ratio, structural damping ratio, structural stiffness, and peak ground acceleration on the reduction effectiveness of STLCD. The nonlinear behavior of the STLCD is experimentally captured. Finally, the structural responses under STLCD and multiple TLCDs (MTLCD) control are compared. It is found that the performance of STLCD strongly depends on structural parameters and properties of earthquakes; both MTLCD and STLCD induce approximately the same response reductions, and the former can enhance the control performance in certain cases. These results presented here may contribute to improve the design and application of TLCDs in practical engineering.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This article presents a study of the applicability of fast nonlinear analytical (FNA) models in predicting the global response of Chinese traditional timber-frame building with Dou-Gon under seismic excitation. Efforts are made to overcome challenges in establishing simplified calculation models, and the corresponding dynamic equations are derived considering the mechanical behavior of sliding column root, mortise-tenon joint and Dou-Gon (bracket sets). Furthermore, nonlinear time-history analysis is conducted under different seismic excitations. Through a verification study, a good correspondence is obtained with previous shake-table test results. Seismic response analysis is also conducted to investigate the energy dissipation of column root sliding, mortise-tenon joint, and Dou-Gon. Subsequently, peak responses of column root and roof under increased values of peak ground acceleration (PGA) are also analyzed. And then, seismic isolation ability and damping characteristics of the model are discussed.  相似文献

Previous studies have shown that both distribution and intensity of response parameters in asymmetric buildings are dependent on their stiffnesses and strength distributions. The locations of centers of strength and rigidity relative to the center of mass provide suitable metrics for strength and stiffness distributions. In general, the proper locations of these centers are a function of earthquake ground motion characteristics and the level of building's nonlinear responses. In this article, using nonlinear response evaluation of single-story building models with a wide range of uncoupled torsional to lateral frequencies subjected to near field and far field earthquake excitations the proper location of building centers is studied . Diaphragm rotation, interstory drift, hinge plastic rotation, and ductility demand are selected as damage measure parameters. To compare the performance of models in each limit state, fragility representation of responses is used. It is concluded that proper configuration of building centers in a torsionally stiff building fundamentally depends on the chosen demand parameter. The proper configuration of centers in a torsionally stiff building for a specific demand parameter can converge the probability and distribution of related damages to those in the symmetric building counterpart. When the critical demand parameter for a case is identified, its corresponding arrangements of centers for a suitable seismic behavior may also be recognized. By rearranging the configuration of centers based on the attained configuration, the adverse effects of asymmetry can be avoided.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

A topology optimized rigid triangular FE macro-model with non-linear homogenized interfaces for the pushover analysis of in plane loaded masonry is presented. The shape of the mesh and the position of the interfaces is evaluated through a topology optimization approach that detects the main compressive stress fluxes in the structure. Different values of the horizontal action are considered to derive an adaptive mesh or an optimal discretization that is suitable for multiple loads. Masonry properties are calibrated by means of a homogenization approach in the nonlinear range. To tackle elastic and inelastic deformations, interfaces are assumed to behave as elasto-plastic with softening in both tension and compression, with orthotropic behavior. The two-step procedure competes favorably with classic equivalent frame approaches because it does not require a-priori assumptions on the mesh and on the length of the rigid offsets. An example of technical relevance is discussed, relying into a multi-story masonry wall loaded up to failure.  相似文献

A simplified analysis procedure for evaluating the nonlinear seismic responses of tall reinforced concrete (RC) buildings is examined in this study. It is called the Uncoupled Modal Response History Analysis (UMRHA) procedure. It can be viewed as an extended version of the classical modal analysis procedure, where the nonlinear response of each vibration mode is first computed, and they are later on combined into the total response of the structure. The procedure requires the knowledge of the modal hysteretic behavior, which can be obtained from a cyclic modal pushover analysis. The responses of four tall buildings in Bangkok to distant large earthquakes are computed by this procedure and compared with those obtained from the Nonlinear Response History Analysis (NLRHA) procedure. These four buildings have different heights—varying from 20 to 44 stories, different configurations of floor plan, and different arrangement of RC walls. The comparison shows that the UMRHA procedure is able to accurately compute the story shears and story overturning moments, floor accelerations, and inter-story drifts of all these tall buildings. The required computational effort is also extremely low compared to that of the NLRHA procedure. Moreover, since the UMRHA procedure computes the response of each individual vibration mode, it provides more understanding and insight into the complex nonlinear seismic responses of these tall buildings.  相似文献

A computer model of ionospheric electrodynamic processes using an eccentric dipole (ED) for the geomagnetic field has been developed. This is a development from existing models which are based on the centred dipole (CD) coaxial with the geographic axis. The ED dynamo model introduces or modifies the effects of hemispherical asymmetry and longitudinal variation in the dynamo processes through two explicit parameters—the geomagnetic field intensity and the length of the field lines. These parameters of the ED field have been quantified and displayed. An additional contribution to the above effects comes implicitly from the ionospheric parameters—plasma density and atmospheric tidal winds—which become asymmetric relative to the ED dip equator. The integrated effect of the geomagnetic and ionospheric parameters produces significant variation in the field line integrated ionospheric conductivity. The ED dynamo model shows that the peak height of the equatorial electrojet (EEJ) moves by over 2 km and height profiles of the EEJ display strong hemispherical asymmetry.  相似文献

Integrated land-use—transportation models are characterized as models in which the redistributive effects of one subsystem upon the other are explicitly defined and incorporated into the model's structure. At the core of integrated models is a linking procedure whose function is to transform the outputs of one model component into inputs for the other. Despite major efforts made in the past to build operational large scale integrated models, the structural properties of such models remain largely unexplored. This paper describes a general framework for an integrated model consisting of prototype model components. These are an iterative activity allocation model of the Garin-Lowry type, an equilibrium-assignment transportation network model, and a linking procedure. Given the level of analysis, this framework is shown useful for exploring the analytics of integrated models and, in particular, their equilibrium properties. By means of many simulation experiments based on an hypothetical numerical example, the operation of the model is demonstrated with an emphasis on the locational interpretation of the integration procedure. On the basis of the empirical results and considering the model's intrinsic assumptions, the following major findings can be cited. First, the effects of nontravel factors (such as basic employment and zonal attractions) upon activity distribution are stronger than effects caused by changes in the transportation system. The latter effects were found to yield nonlinear and, spatially, nonuniform changes in activity location which also tended to be larger in peripheral regions. Second, implicit in the specification of the integration procedure are behavioral assumptions regarding time-lags in locational adjustments made by activities in reaction to rising cost of travel. The present formulation implies that once located, activities do not revise their locational decisions despite substantial increases in travel costs. At the other extreme, all activities are permitted to readjust their locational preferences after the final interzonal travel costs are derived. The effect upon activity distribution of the latter specification is, of course, larger than that of the former, although less than the effect yielded by changes in nontravel factors. Regarding the equilibrium properties of the integrated system, both the theoretical and empirical analyses show that the entire model will converge into an equilibrium solution and that the corresponding trip patterns are also at equilibrium. These results will hold as long as the operation of the integrated models is completely controlled by the generation functions of the land-use model and the transportation model component only affects the spatial distribution of activities. Finally, the results from the simulation experiments indicate that the computed mean travel cost parameter tends to stabilize around a certain value as the level of demand for travel, within the system, rises. There is evidence that compensating changes in the location and composition of this demand are the main causes of this phenomenon. In light of these findings, it is possible to point to three key problems whose resolution could largely improve the predictive power of integrated models. First, it would be useful to define activity models in which the generation of activities is, among other things, a function of travel conditions. Second, currently formulated integrated models do not contain trip demand functions and, thus, demand for travel by an activity unit is regarded as completely inelastic. Third, different locating activities respond differently—over time and space—to changíng travel conditions, and models should, therefore, reflect explicitly such differences in activity behavior. A recent paper by Los [14], is an important contribution to the analysis of this issue.  相似文献

This article presents a new method for the calculation of the moment-rotation (M-θ) curves of URM elements using an analytical phenomenogical closed form solution for flexure, combined with a hybrid analytical-statistical model for shear. These are used to define the constitutive law of nonlinear springs located at the areas of lumped inelasticity of an equivalent frame model. The method constitutes an analytical design/assessment tool, to be used by the practicing engineer, for the pushover analysis of URM buildings. The proposed procedure is implemented as a pre-processor to a commercial nonlinear software codes capable of static pushover analysis using the point hinge approach.  相似文献

This study investigates the effectiveness of the modal analysis using three-degree-of freedom (3DOF) modal equations of motion to deal with the seismic analysis of two-way asymmetric elastic systems with supplemental damping. The 3DOF modal equations of motion possessing the non proportional damping property enable the two modal translations and one modal rotation to be non proportional in an elastic state. The simple approximation method is to use the single degree-of-freedom (SDOF) modal equations of motion, which are obtained by neglecting the off-diagonal elements of the transformed damping matrix. One, one-story and one, three-story non proportionally damped two-way asymmetric buildings under the excitation of bi-directional seismic ground motions are analyzed. The analytical results are obtained by using the proposed method, noted simple approximation method, and direct integration of the equation of motion. It is seen that the proposed method can significantly improve the accuracy of the analytical results compared with those obtained by using the simple approximation method. Moreover, the proposed method does not substantially increase the computational efforts.  相似文献

The capacity spectrum method of ATC-40 uses the secant period as the equivalent period of equivalent linear systems. Therefore, it results in a direct graphical comparison. The maximum inelastic displacement and acceleration demands of structures can be simultaneously obtained from the intersection of the demand and capacity diagrams. However, for evaluation of existing structures, the demands need to be determined through iterations since the equivalent period and damping of the equivalent linear systems currently available are both a function of the (displacement) ductility ratio, which is unknown and is the target of evaluation. In addition, the equivalent damping used in the capacity spectrum method is independent of periods of vibration. It may lead to poor estimations of maximum responses especially for short-period systems. This article proposes two equivalent linear systems based on the secant period to estimate the maximum displacement and acceleration responses of existing structures. Both the recommended equivalent period and damping are defined by the strength ratio (elastic lateral strength/yield lateral strength), rather than the ductility ratio. Because the strength ratio of existing structures is a known parameter, the maximum displacement and acceleration responses of these structures can be determined without iterations. Besides, effects of periods of vibration on the equivalent linear systems are also included in this study. The equivalent damping is derived from statistical analyses for bilinear single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) systems with different periods of vibration, strength ratios and post-yield stiffness based on 72 earthquake ground motions recorded on firm sites. Procedures and examples for applications of the proposed equivalent linear systems on nonlinear static analysis procedures are also provided.  相似文献

Based on the 3-single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) model of twin-tower structures linked by the sky-bridge and passive control devices, the frequency functions and the vibration energy expressions of the structures are derived by using the stationary white noise as the seismic excitation. The analytical formulas for determining the connecting optimum parameters of viscoelastic damper (VED) represented by the Kelvin model and the viscous fluid damper (VFD) represented by Maxwell model are proposed using the principle of minimizing the average vibration energy of either the single tower or the twin tower. Three pairs of representative numerical examples of twin-tower-connected structures are used to verify the correctness of the theoretical approach. The optimum parametric analysis demonstrates that the control performance is not sensitive to damper damping ratio of VED and relaxation time of VFD. The effectiveness of the proposed control strategies based on the 3-SDOF models is also proved to be applicable to multi-degree-of-freedom systems. The theoretical analysis and numerical results indicate that the seismic response and vibration energy of the twin-tower-connected structures are mitigated greatly under the two types of dampers. The presented control strategies of VED and VFD can help engineers in application of coupled structures.  相似文献

The general trends of the inelastic behaviour of plan-asymmetric structures have been studied. Systems with structural elements in both orthogonal directions and bi-axial eccentricity were subjected to bi-directional excitation. Test examples include idealised single-storey and multi-storey models, and a three-storey building, for which test results are available. The response in terms of displacements was determined by nonlinear dynamic analyses. The main findings, limited to fairly regular and simple investigated buildings, are: (a) The amplification of displacements determined by elastic dynamic analysis can be used as a rough, and in the majority of cases conservative estimate in the inelastic range, (b) Any favourable torsional effect on the stiff side, which may arise from elastic analysis, may disappear in the inelastic range. These findings can be utilised in the approximate pushover-based seismic analysis of asymmetric buildings, e.g. in the N2 method. It is proposed that the results obtained by pushover analysis of a 3D structural model be combined with the results of a linear dynamic (spectral) analysis. The former results control the target displacements and the distribution of deformations along the height of the building, whereas the latter results define the torsional amplifications. The proposed approach is partly illustrated and evaluated by test examples.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Historical centers are always composed of masonry building aggregates often designed without respecting seismic design criteria. The current seismic Italian code does not foresee a clear calculation method to predict their static nonlinear behavior. For this reason, in this article the seismic response of structural units into masonry aggregates has been predicted through a simplified modeling approach. The implemented procedure has been calibrated on the results of a numerical model performed by using the Equivalent Frame Method (EFM), implemented within a Finite Element Method (FEM) calculation program, used to investigate a basic building compound representative of the constructive techniques developed in the past decades in the Southern Italy.

First, the whole aggregate has been modeled and analyzed in the nonlinear static field in order to evaluate the seismic behavior of both intermediate and head structural units.

Later on, the seismic response of these structural units, considered as isolated structures, has been assessed by considering in simplified way their position in the aggregate, as well as the influence of other constructions.

Finally, the achieved results on the above single analysis cases have been compared with those deriving from the investigation of the whole building compound, allowing to confirm the effectiveness of the proposed novel analysis procedure.  相似文献
