Previous experimental research on shear walls has mainly focused on load carrying capacity, deformation, or hysteretic characteristics, with relatively little attention paid to individual damage states and their corresponding responses during the entire loading process until failure. The damage behavior of seven reinforced concrete shear wall specimens subjected to cyclic loading is presented in this study. The effects of the axial load ratio, transverse reinforcement ratio of confining boundary elements, and cross-section shape on damage characteristics, ductility, shear deformation, and crack width of the specimens were analyzed comprehensively.  相似文献

Three reinforced concrete (RC) circular column specimens without an effective concrete cover were tested under constant axial compressive as well as cyclic lateral loading. The seismic behavior of the specimens under different loading paths was examined with the objective of understanding the influence of displacement history sequence on the seismic behavior of the columns in near-fault earthquakes. The influence of displacement history sequence upon the hysteretic characteristics, stiffness degradation, lateral capacity, as well as energy dissipation analysis was conducted. The hoop strains of lateral reinforcement at varied column heights under cyclic loading were attained by means of 8–16 strain gauges attached along the hoops. Additionally, the characteristics of strain distribution were investigated in the transverse reinforcement. The results of strain distribution were evaluated with Mander’s confinement stress model and the distribution around the cross section. The length of the plastic hinge at the end of the specimen was evaluated by measurement as well as the inverse analysis. Finally, the deformation of the specimen, which includes the components of shear deformation, bending deformation and bonding-slip deformation, was evaluated and successfully separated.  相似文献

An innovative and practical technique for the seismic rehabilitation of beam-column joints using fiber reinforced polymers (FRP) is presented. The procedure is to upgrade the shear capacity of the joint and thus allow the ductile ftexural hinge to form in the beam. An experimental study is conducted in order to evaluate the performance of a full-scale reinforced concrete external beam-column joint from a moment resisting frame designed to earlier code then repaired using the proposed technique. The beam-column joint is tested under cyclic loading applied at the free end of the beam and axial column load. The suggested repair procedure was applied to the tested specimen. The composite laminate system proved to be effective in upgrading the shear capacity of the nonductile beam-column joint. Comparison between the behaviour of the specimen before and after the repair is presented. A design methodology for fibre jacketing to upgrade the shear capacity of existing beam-column joints in reinforced concrete moment resisting frames is proposed.  相似文献

In this paper, the damage prediction of shear-dominated reinforced concrete (RC) elements subjected to reversed cyclic shear is presented using an existing damage model. The damage model is primarily based on the monotonic energy dissipating capacity of structural elements before and after the application of reversed cyclic loading. Therefore, it could be universally applicable to different types of structural members, includeing shear-dominated RC members. The applicability of the damage model to shear-dominated RC members is assessed using the results from reversed cyclic shear load tests conducted earlier on eleven RC panels. First, the monotonic energy dissipating capacities of the panels before and after the application of reversed cyclic loading are estimated and employed in the damage model. Next, a detailed comparison between the analytically predicted damage and the observed damage from the experimental tests of the panels is performed throughout the loading history. Subsequently, the effects of two important parameters, the orientation and the percentage of reinforcement, on the damage of such shear-dominated panels are studied. The research results demonstrated that the analytically predicted damage is in reasonably good agreement with the observed damage throughout the entire loading history. Furthermore, the orientation and percentage of reinforcement is found to have considerable effect on the extent of damage.  相似文献

This article presents experimental and analytical investigations of hybrid-steel concrete connections. In the experimental study, four full-scale specimens including one cast-in-place and three precast specimens were tested under cyclic load reversals. The performance of the specimens in terms of energy dissipating capacity, cracking patterns, and variation of strains along the main reinforcement is described. However, due to the inherent complexity of beam-column joints and the unique features of the tested specimens, the experimental investigation was not sufficient enough to fully understand the influence of several parameters. Therefore, an analytical investigation based on the FE models using DIANA software is presented. Validation of the FE models against the experimental results has shown a good agreement. The critical parameters influencing the joint's behavior such as the continuation of beam bottom reinforcement, column axial load, the size and embedded length of the angle sections are varied, and their effects including possible implications on code specifications are discussed.  相似文献

An experimental investigation was undertaken to study the seismic performance of external reinforced concrete (RC) beam-column joints having representative details for mid-rise RC frame buildings in developing countries such as Iran that were designed and constructed prior to the 1970s. Three half-scale external RC beam-column joints were tested by applying lateral cyclic loading of increasing amplitudes. Tested specimens were comprised of one unit having seismic reinforcement detailing in accordance with the seismic requirements of ACI 318-11, and two units having non-seismic reinforcement detailing in accordance with the 1970s construction practice in many developing countries, such as Iran. Two typical defects were considered for the non-seismic units, being the absence of transverse steel hoops and insufficient bond capacity of beam bottom reinforcing bars in the joint region. Test results indicated that the non-seismically detailed specimens had a high rate of strength and stiffness degradation when compared to the seismically detailed specimen, which was attributed primarily to the joint shear failure or bond failure of the beam bottom bars. The non-seismically detailed specimens also showed a 30% reduction in both average strength and ductility and a 60% loss of energy dissipation capacity in comparison to the seismically detailed specimen.  相似文献

Abstract

This paper aims at assessing the influence of the design procedure followed in designing the columns of a reinforced concrete (R/C) building on the performance of the columns, aa well as of the structure as a whole, when subjected to seismic loading; to identify potential weaknesses in currently adopted procedures; and to present a new procedure which is based on currently-available, powerful analytical tools, and results in increased reliability with regard to seismic loading. Two case studies are presented, involving multistorey reinforced concrete buildings with frame and dual structural systems subjected to various appropriately-scaled input accelerograms. The results obtained indicate that capacity design of columns results in adequate safety margins against failure, even when the adopted overstrength factors are quite low, but hinging in columns is not avoided unless very high overstrength factors are used. The suggested novel technique of capacity design led to very satisfactory seismic performance, and offers the possibility of cost reduction by achieving an appropriate balance between provided flexural strength and corresponding confinement.  相似文献

Superelastic Shape Memory Alloys (SE SMAs) are unique alloys that have the ability to undergo large deformations and return to their undeformed shape by removal of stresses. This study aims at assessing the seismic behavior of beam-column joints reinforced with SE SMAs. Two large-scale beam-column joints were tested under reversed cyclic loading. While the first joint was reinforced with regular steel rebars, SE SMA rebars were used in the second one. Both joints were selected from a Reinforced Concrete (RC) building located in the high seismic region of western Canada and designed and detailed according to current Canadian standards. The behavior of the two specimens under reversed cyclic loading, including their drifts, rotations, and ability to dissipate energy, were compared. The results showed that the SMA-reinforced beam-column joint specimen was able to recover most of its post-yield deformation. Thus, it would require a minimum amount of repair even after a strong earthquake.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In order to study the influence of looseness on seismic performance of through-tenon joints, six through-tenon joints specimens in 1:3.2 scale, including one tight-fitted joint and five loose joints, were fabricated according to the Engineering Fabrication Methods of Qing dynasty. The failure modes, mechanical behaviors such as the hysteresis and envelope curves, strength and stiffness degradations, energy dissipation, and deformation of the specimens under low cyclic reversed loading tests were analyzed. Results show that the failure modes of theses joints under positive and negative loadings are bending damage on the big tenon head and tearing damage on the variable cross-section, respectively. The hysteresis curves of joints appear to be anti-Z shape and present typical pinching effect. The greater the degree of looseness is, the more obvious the slippage is. The bending moment, stiffness and energy dissipation of loose joints are lower than those of the tight-fitted joint under the same rotation angle, and the increase in the loose degree cause them to gradually decrease. Meanwhile, the behavior of the through-tenon joints is further simulated by the nonlinear finite element analysis program, and the test results agree well with the numerical analysis results.  相似文献

The authors have completed structural and compositional analysis of Roman hydraulic concrete using large cores taken from a variety of maritime structures. In 2005 an 8 m3 block of hydraulic, pozzolanic concrete was built in the sea at Brindisi (Italy), applying the materials and procedures specified by the Roman architect Vitruvius. Cores were taken at 6 months and 12 months after construction and subjected to the same analyses as the first‐century bc cores from pilae associated with the Villa of the Domitii Ahenobarbi at Santa Liberata. Results show that a slight variation on the Vitruvian formula yields results closest to the Roman material, and that substantial curing requires 12 months.  相似文献

Considerable progress has been made on the research of non-rectangular reinforced concrete (RC) squat walls over the past decades. However, the experimental data of L-shaped RC squat walls remain limited, especially for their seismic behaviors under non-principal bending actions. This paper presents an experimental and numerical investigation on L-shaped RC squat structural walls with an emphasis on how varying the directions of lateral cyclic loading influences the seismic responses of these walls. Four L-shaped specimens are tested under lateral cyclic displacements and low levels of axial compression The variables are axial loads and lateral loading directions. The performance of specimens is discussed in terms of cracking patterns, failure mechanisms, hysteretic responses, deformation components and strain profiles. Furthermore, three-dimensional finite element models are developed to supplement the experimental results. The direction of lateral loading is found to have a significant effect on the peak shear strength of L-shaped RC squat walls.  相似文献

This article presents the results of an experimental study on the rotational behavior of degraded Chinese traditional mortise-tenon joints with different degradation types and different degradation degrees. Six joint specimens degraded through artificially simulated method, were tested by reversed cyclic loading, from which the moment-rotation curves were obtained. The results indicated that the rotational behavior of these joints is semi-rigid, the hysteretic curve shapes of degraded joints are same to that of joint without degradation. The maximum moment, yield moment, and initial rotational stiffness of degraded joints decreases as the degraded degree increases, whose empirical degradation relationships were obtained based on the test data. A hysteretic model for degraded traditional mortise tenon joints was proposed. Experimental results were used to validate the proposed hysteretic model. Good agreement between predictions and tests was observed.  相似文献

This article describes an experimental study carried out on of reinforced concrete (RC) walls of less confining reinforcement than that recommended by ACI 318. A total of eight RC walls with boundary elements comprising of five walls with aspect ratio of 1.125 and three walls with aspect ratio of 1.625 were tested by subjecting them to low levels of axial compression loading and simulated seismic loading, to examine the structural performance of the walls with limited transverse reinforcement. Conclusions are reached concerning the failure mode, drift capacity, strength capacity, components of top deformation, and energy dissipation characteristics of walls on the seismic behavior with limited transverse reinforcement. The influences of axial loading, transverse reinforcement in the wall boundary elements, and the presence of construction joints at the wall base on the seismic behavior of walls are also studied in this paper. Lastly, reasonable strut-and-tie models are developed to help in understanding the force transfer mechanism in the walls tested.  相似文献

The influence of masonry infills with openings on the seismic performance of reinforced concrete (R/C) frames that were designed in accordance with modern codes provisions is investigated. Two types of masonry infills were considered that had different compressive strength but almost identical shear strength. Infills were designed so that the lateral cracking load of the solid infill is less than the available column shear resistance. Seven 1/3 – scale, single–story, single–bay frame specimens were tested under cyclic horizontal loading up to a drift level of 40%. The parameters investigated are the opening shape and the infill compressive strength. The assessment of the behavior of the frames is presented in terms of failure modes, strength, stiffness, ductility, energy dissipation capacity, and degradation from cycling. The experimental results indicate that infills with openings can significantly improve the performance of RC frames. Further, as expected, specimens with strong infills exhibited better performance than those with weak infills. For the prediction of the lateral resistance of the studied single-bay, single-story infilled frames with openings, a special plastic analysis method has been employed.  相似文献

A new precast concrete beam-to-column connection for moment-resisting frames was developed in this study. Both longitudinal bar anchoring and lap splicing were used to achieve beam reinforcement continuity. Three full-scale beam-to-column connections, including a reference monolithic specimen, were investigated under reversal cyclic loading. The difference between the two precast specimens was the consideration of additional lap-splicing bars in the calculation of moment-resisting strength. Seismic performance was evaluated based on hysteretic behavior, strength, ductility, stiffness, and energy dissipation. The plastic hinge length of the specimens is also discussed. The results show that the proposed precast system performs satisfactorily under reversal cyclic loading compared with the monolithic specimen, and the additional lap-splicing bars can be included in the strength calculation using the plane cross-section assumption. Furthermore, the plastic hinge length of the proposed precast beam-to-column connection can be estimated using the models for monolithic specimens.  相似文献

Non-ductile response of structural elements, particularly columns, has been the cause of numerous documented failures during earthquakes. The objective of this experimental study was to evaluate the non-linear behaviour of non-ductile reinforced concrete short columns under lateral cyclic deformations and to evaluate rehabilitation schemes. Three reinforced concrete short columns were tested under cyclic lateral loads and constant axial load. The behaviour and effectiveness of different rehabilitation systems using carbon fibre reinforced polymers (CFRP) were investigated. Two different techniques to improve concrete confinement were used in the two rehabilitated specimens. It was found that it is possible to eliminate the non-ductile modes of failure of short column using anchored CFRP wraps. In addition, an analytical model to predict the confining effect and the total shear resistance of rectangular reinforced concrete columns with anchored fibre wraps was introduced. The confinement model is an extension to an available model for concrete confined by steel reinforcement. The model was used to predict the shear capacity of the tested specimens and has shown good results.  相似文献

Self-centering ability of unbonded post-tensioned precast concrete shear walls has been attributed to the presence of post-tensioning force. However, the experimental results presented in this paper indicate that the post-tensioning force may completely die out during cyclic loading while the walls are able to retain their superior self-centering characteristic. Moreover, the analytical study presented in this article indicates that with proper configuration of end-anchorages for post-tensioned tendons, self-centering of post-tensioned walls can be achieved even when the post-tensioning force vanishes. This study also investigates the effects of tendon layout, tendon end-anchorage configuration, and external vertical load on the self-centering ability of unbonded precast concrete shear walls subjected to earthquake loading.  相似文献

The goal of this paper is to develop a modified Bouc-Wen hysteretic model from cyclic loading test data for reinforced columns, including the behavior of stiffness degradation, strength deterioration, pinching and softening effects of RC members. Seismic demands on this inelastic single degree of freedom system when subjected to both near-fault ground motion and far-field ground motion excitations were examined.

The cyclic loading test of reinforced concrete columns was experimentally observed and a system identification computer program was developed to solve each control parameter of the hysteretic model. A least-squared method for identifying parameters of the model is proposed in this paper. The hysteretic constitutive law produces a smoothly varying hysteresis such as the control-parameters for strength deterioration, stiffness degradation, pinching and softening effects. Two implementations of (1) flexure damage and (2) shear damage were conducted to provide better understanding of hysteretic behavior of RC structural members. A pseudo-dynamic experiment was also developed to verify the model parameters.

Based on the developed hysteretic model, the seismic demand of this inelastic model was investigated by using both near-fault ground motion data and far-field ground motion data as input motion. An RT inelastic response spectrum from different hysteretic models was generated.  相似文献

The deformation of beam-column joints may contribute significantly to drift of reinforced concrete (RC) frames. In addition, failure may occur in the joints due to cumulative concrete crushing from applied beam and column moments, bond slip of embedded bars or shear failure as in the case of existing frames with nonductile detailing. When subjected to earthquake loading, failure in RC structural wall is similar to failure of frame joints as it may occur due to cumulative crushing from high flexural stresses, bond slip failure of lap splice, shear failure or a combination of various mechanisms of failure. It is important to include these behavioural characteristics in a simple model that can be used in the analysis of RC frames and RC walls to predict their response under earthquake loading and determine their failure modes.

Global macro models for the beam-column joint and for RC structural walls are developed. The proposed models represent shear and bond slip deformations as well as flexural deformations in the plastic hinge regions. The models are capable of idealising the potential failure mechanism due to crushing of concrete, bond slip or shear with allowance for the simultaneous progress in each mode. The model predictions are compared with available experimental data and good correlation is observed between analytical results and the test measurements.  相似文献

An experimental program was conducted to study the inelastic response of steel roof deck diaphragms for low-rise steel buildings subjected to seismic loading. Tests were performed on 3.6 m×6.1 m diaphragm specimens made of corrugated steel deck panels. The parameters examined were the thickness and configuration of the sheet steel panels, the type and spacing of the fasteners, the applied loading history and the influence of end lap joints. Diaphragms built with screwed side lap fasteners and nailed deck-to-frame connectors exhibited a pinched hysteretic behaviour, but could sustain large inelastic deformation cycles with limited strength degradation. This type of diaphragm construction could be designed to resist earthquake effects in the inelastic range. Higher shear resistance and less pinching was observed for systems that included welded with washer connections. However, their strength decreased rapidly after the peak load was reached, and hence, these systems should be designed for limited inelastic response. Deck systems with button punched side laps and frame welds without washers showed a brittle response and should be designed to remain elastic under severe earthquake motions. The inelastic demand was found to increase when the spacing of the fasteners was reduced. Specimens constructed with an internal overlap joint exhibited extensive warping of the cross section mainly due to the shorter panel length.  相似文献
