Borrowed Robes: The Educational Value of Costumed Interpretation at Historic Sites

Pressure to develop vulnerable historic sites into competitive commercial operations has led to controversial interpretive techniques being introduced by aggressive marketing managers. Scarce resources have been invested in largely unproven technological and other innovative methods of presentation. This paper looks at the employment of costumed interpreters at historic sites, what they claim to offer visitors, and whether their services match visitors' needs. It reports the findings of an investigation into what visitors want from historic sites and the extent to which costumed interpreters contribute to their experiences. The study reported here compared the performance of 12 historic sites in four countries: two European (Sweden and the UK) and two North American (Canada and the USA); with the participation of 589 visitors. The study provides clear recommendations for site managers as to the value of costumed interpretation and offers guidelines on the levels of investment (in reproduction costume and staff training) that guarantee visitors an educational experience during their visits to historic sites.

最近几年时间 ,人口问题成为历史研究领域中最热门的争论之一。问题几乎涉及到改革开放 (特别是近十年 )有关研究的所有方面 ,争论的双方不但有国内 ,也有国外的不少知名学者。作者并不属于其中哪一方 (也许可以算作第三方 ) ,仅就清代中国人口机制、人口增长率以及人口作用几个方面的问题提出了自己的见解。     

一部明了古代中外交往必备的工具书--《丝绸之路辞典》书后

周伟洲、王欣二教授主编的《丝绸之路辞典》由陕西人民出版社于2018年12月出版。这是此前由周先生和丁景泰主编《丝绸之路大辞典》(陕西人民出版社,2006年)一书的增订本①,二者前后相隔12年。一部学术作品的再版本属稀松平常,但这部巨型的《丝绸之路辞典》再度问世,除了销售告罄的通常含义之外,它与当下“丝绸之路”表征的古典文化之兴盛景象紧密相连.     

Troubadours in Debate: The Breviari d'Amor

Matfre Ermengaud's thirteenth-century Occitan encyclopedia, the Breviari d'Amor, concludes with a treatise on courtly love, the “Perilhos tractat d'amor de donas segon que han tractat li antic trobador en lors cansos.” In this treatise, the chief figures of courtly love—the lovers, ladies, troubadours, and maldizen, with Matfre as narrator and participant—dispute key tenets of love, quoting frequently from numerous troubadour lyrics in order to prove their arguments. In fact, the “Perilhos tractat” presents quotations of troubadour lyric in a disputative manner so as to highlight the troubadours as themselves in debate, although the Breviari purports to be structured by the overarching principle of love dictated by the visual mnemonic metaphor of the Tree of Love. This study examines the quotations of the troubadour lyrics here as dialectical, then, rather than as expressing and confirming a unitary vision of Natural Love. The “Perilhos tractat” is a debate not simply on love but also on the understanding and reception of the troubadours more broadly; that is, Matfre's dialectical use of troubadour lyric generates a broader debate about the meaning of the troubadours’ lyrics and their poetic legacy in the late thirteenth century.

商务印书馆出版的《古汉语常用字字典》(修订版)是一部曾获中国辞书奖一等奖而流布极广的字典,但其中却有不少失误。本对其引失误作了勘正。
