This study is aimed at investigating the demand on shear panel dampers (SPDs) installed in steel structures under strong earthquake motions to serve as guidance for the recommended capacity of SPDs in seismic design. For this purpose, an extensive dynamic analysis is carried out on steel bridge pier structures with SPD devices. To describe the restoring force characteristics of SPDs, the analysis uses a newly developed combined hardening model based on experimental data. The seismic demands made on SPD devices are examined and then summarized to give recommended values for determining the necessary deformation capacity of SPDs.  相似文献

The concept of performance-based design is considered in the framework of Robust Design Optimization (RDO) for the design of steel structures. The RDO problem is treated as a two-objective optimization problem where the initial construction cost and the variance of the maximum interstorey drift for the 10% in 50 years hazard level are considered as the problem objectives to be minimized. The structural performance is evaluated by means of the reliability demand and resistance methodology of the FEMA-350 guidelines in order to take into account both uncertainty and randomness in a consistent manner. The structure is designed to respond for different levels of seismic hazard levels with a desired confidence. The limit-state damage cost is used as a measure for the assessment of selected designs that have been obtained through the proposed RDO formulation. The non deterministic finite element problem encountered, is solved using the Monte Carlo Simulation method. The NSGA-II algorithm has been combined with the Evolution Strategies optimization algorithm for solving the two-objective optimization problem at hand.  相似文献

The seismic damage evaluated through Nonlinear Time-History Analyses is significantly affected by the response quantity chosen to represent the seismic responses. Starting from the theory of tolerance regions, a generic upper limit of the seismic responses is proposed. The method is applied to a reinforced concrete structure subjected to different record combinations. For each considered damage index and record combination, the upper limit damage is compared with the average value suggested by seismic codes. The proposed method yields a higher seismic damage than the average response and an increase in the damage indices as the number of records decreases.  相似文献

In this article, the influence of nonlinear behavior of multiple degree of freedom (MDOF) primary structures on floor response spectra is investigated by means of simple structural models. The cases of shear beam type as well as of capacity-designed plane frames were studied. It is shown that, in general, but not always, nonlinearity of the primary structure has a beneficial effect on floor spectra. However, higher mode response may be amplified due to nonlinear behavior. The issue of a one story structure exhibiting torsionnal response has also been addressed and some important properties are highlighted.  相似文献

The SAFE experimental programme consists of a series of 10 specimens of shear walls, with different reinforcement ratios, tested until their ultimate capacity under seismic input motion by the pseudo dynamic method. A unique input signal is used, calibrated for controlling the seismic demand. Its input central frequency is selected so that for some specimens it is lower than their eignenfrequency, while for other ones it is the opposite. In conclusion there is clear experimental evidence that design margins are much larger in the second case (input central frequency larger than structure eignenfrequency) than in the first one.  相似文献

The first step in a hysteretic energy-based design approach of performance-based design is the estimation of hysteretic energy demand in the structure. A nonlinear response-history analysis of the multi-degree of freedom model gives an accurate estimation, but it is not suitable for adopting in design. Two alternative methods, based on the concepts of modal pushover analysis (MPA) and 2D-MPA, are proposed in this article for uniaxial plan-asymmetric structures. Application studies show that both methods are efficient. While the 2D-MPA-based method is more accurate, the MPA-based method is more suitable for design adoption. Significant conclusions are given for prospective application of these methods.  相似文献

Prestressed precast concrete shear wall (PPCW) is a new kind of shear wall utilizing a combination of unbonded post-tensioning steel and mild steel for flexural resistance across horizontal joints. A simple procedure of direct displacement-based design approach for PPCW based on concept of inelastic design spectra is proposed. Section design is then carried out according to base overturning moment. A detailed design example demonstrating a step-by-step application of the design procedure is also provided. Nonlinear time-history analysis verified that this approach is applicable to control the target displacement to the performance acceptable limit.  相似文献

This study primarily proposes new equivalent damping ratio equations based on Jacobsen’s approach for displacement-based seismic design of pile-supported wharves to account for wharf configurations and soil-pile interaction. It is found that Pivot hysteresis model and Masing rule can accurately capture nonlinear behavior of concrete and steel wharves, respectively. To verify applicability of proposed equations, analyses were conducted to three typical wharves to make a comparison of maximum displacements obtained from nonlinear time-history analyses and substitute structure method with various damping equations. The verification reveals proposed equations are better than those in practice for their higher precision in determining displacements.  相似文献

The unexpected damages in structures during severe earthquakes have been reported frequently so far. In this study, the damage-based inelastic behavior of special moment resisting frame (SMRF) structures designed according to the new versions of general earthquake loading codes (International building code [IBC] 2012 & American Society of Civil Engineers [ASCE] 7-2010) and seismic design references (National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program [NEHRP] 2009 & Federal Emergency Management Agency [FEMA] P-750) has been investigated. The final results presented based on distinctive shear and flexural failure modes show that a non-uniform distribution of severe damage in structural height occurs during design level seismic excitations. Also it is observed that the shear and flexural damages are more critical in short and tall MRF structures, respectively.  相似文献

Kruger Incorporated purchased the aging pulp and paper mill in Corner Brook in 1984, armed with a federal-provincial modernization agreement and a pattern-breaking contract with the mill unions. It is argued that changes made in the decade since then correspond most closely with a form of lean production. Six elements of lean production are found at Corner Brook: tighter coordination of production and automation; a continued concentration on core activities; the farming out of ancillary activities; shrinking and segmentation of the workforce; environmental compliance, increasing technical efficiency; and the co-opting of the workforce into the mission of the firm.  相似文献

In this article, site response analyses for 124 sites collected in Korea were performed to evaluate earthquake ground motions in regions of shallow bedrock in Korea. Based on the results, a new two-parameter site classification system was developed for use in regions of shallow bedrock. The system incorporates depth to bedrock and mean VS of soil above bedrock as parameters for site classification instead of VS30. Soil sites were divided into seven site classes and the corresponding site coefficients were proposed for each site category. Some verification work demonstrates the superiority of the proposed system over the current seismic codes.  相似文献

The effective stiffness of a structural wall is an important property in design, which many design codes estimate by the moment inertia of the wall section with a reduction factor. The reduction factor is typically estimated by empirical equations based on configurations of the wall. The existing methods for the reduction factor were proposed based on investigations on rectangular reinforced concrete (RC) walls. The effective stiffness of non-rectangular RC walls can be more complex than that of rectangular RC walls. As such, more research investigations are required. Based on finite element models, the effective stiffness of U-shaped and T-shaped RC walls was investigated in this paper. The numerical results were further adopted to develop methods for calculating the effective stiffness of non-rectangular wall in different loading directions. The proposed method was afterward compared with the experimental data.  相似文献

A prototype diesel generator equipped with a vibration isolation system consisting of restrained isolators (denoted as I/system) is quasi-statically and dynamically tested. Sequentially, the seismic simulation tests are conducted to further investigate the effectiveness of additional snubbers incorporated into the vibration isolation system (denoted as I/R system). Comparing the test results to the static design demands specified in ASCE 7-10, the recommended component amplification factor could represent the horizontal acceleration amplification phenomenon of the generator equipped with I/R system; however, the seismic force demands for static design of I/R system might not be appropriate and conservative enough.  相似文献

A piezoelectric transducer capable of measuring both shear and compression wave velocities in soil simultaneously in triaxial testing conditions is presented. Performance evaluation of disk transducer system showed that the use of low-noise coaxial cables, proper grounding, and high resolution wave recorder can significantly enhance signal quality and eliminates crosstalk deterioration. Distortions due to near-field effects were found to diminish by increasing input frequency and by using sinusoidal input waveform, compared to square input. Disk-type piezoelectric transducers show significant future potential for laboratory determination of shear, and compression modulus of soil because of their robustness and noninvasive nature.  相似文献

The seismic performance of superimposed reinforced concrete (RC) shear walls is decreased by rocking behavior and damage concentration at the horizontal joint. An enhanced horizontal joint method is proposed to improve the corresponding seismic performance. To validate the reliability of the proposed method, three full-scale superimposed walls and a cast-in-place shear wall (for comparison) are designed and tested under the quasi-static load. The test results indicate that the rocking phenomenon can be prevented using the proposed method, and the seismic performance of superimposed RC shear walls with enhanced horizontal joints is comparable to that of the cast-in-place RC shear walls.  相似文献

A new robust design methodology to control the seismic performance of asymmetric structures equipped with a Single Tuned Mass Damper (STMD) is presented in this article. This design approach aims to control the seismic response of such systems by reducing both flexible-and stiff-edge maximum displacement. The dynamic problem has been investigated in the state space representation showing that the TMD works as a closed-loop feedback control action. A synthetic index to estimate the seismic performance of the main system has been defined by using H norm. Wide-ranging parametric numerical experimentation has been carried out to obtain design formulae for the STMD in order to minimize such a performance index. These formulae allow for a simple design of STMD position and stiffness to optimally control both translational and rotational motion components, whereas two mass devices are generally considered to improve the seismic performance of asymmetric structural systems The effectiveness and efficiency of the obtained design formulae have been tested by investigating the dynamic behavior of the asymmetric structure after being subjected to different recorded seismic inputs.  相似文献

P-Δ effects can cause instability if they are not properly accounted for during the design of bridge piers and other structures. When a bridge pier is designed with the Direct Displacement-Based Design Method, P-Δ effects are evaluated at the end of the design process and compared to the flexural strength of the pier to find a stability index. If the stability index exceeds the specified value, the design must be repeated, iteratively reducing the target design displacement. This article presents a model that when used at the beginning of design (without knowledge of strength) allows the estimation of the maximum lateral displacement that a bridge pier can sustain without exceeding the specified value of the stability index, therefore eliminating the need for iteration. The examples that are presented prove that the model is accurate and very useful for design of extended pile bents.  相似文献

Although industrial restructuring in a resource region might appear at first glance to impact mainly on the predominantly male labour force, in practice it often results in a broader range of economic and social changes as women expand and intensify their entrepreneurial activities as home‐based paid workers, and as shifts occur in gender divisions of waged and unwaged labour. The Corner Brook region represents an example of these transformative processes of change. Since restructuring in resource regions occurs in situ, it is necessarily contingent on local place‐based geographies and histories, but its impact has profound implications for gender identity and social relations in economically marginalised regions.  相似文献
