Realistic images of death and burial appear in unprecedented numbers as illustrations for the Office of the Dead in late medieval prayerbooks. Taking issue with the traditional, generalized interpretations of these images as expressions of the late medieval preoccupation with death, the author argues that the iconography of death ritual that emerged after 1375 was actually a manifestation of the popular need to assert the restoration of social and religious traditions that had been suspended during the period when the Black Death ravaged western Europe. Viewed against the background of pre-plague catholic death rituals and the literary evidence of the disruption and suspension of those rituals resulting from the onslaught of bubonic plague, the new iconography of death and burial assumes social significance that sets it apart from more eschatologically oriented visual and literary themes associated with death and dying during the late middle ages.  相似文献

清洗是纸质文物保护的重要环节。为此,利用虹吸技术对纸质文物进行清洗,以减轻常规清洗方法对文物本体尤其是绘画颜料层的摩擦及冲击损伤,对脆弱纸张及色彩易脱落的字画尤其适宜。这可避免传统的清洗方法中清洗液循环使用出现的交叉感染及清洗不彻底的现象。清洗后纸张白度提高,光泽度几乎无变化,pH值提高至8.5左右。  相似文献

Abstract

This paper examines the significance of a rediscovered medieval map (Public Record Office, MPCC 7) of part of the Fenlands of eastern England, previously dated to the mid‐sixteenth century but now recognized as mid‐fifteenth century. The map portrays realistically two important monastic churches, Sempringham Priory and Spalding Priory, which did not survive the Reformation and for which no other contemporary representations are known to exist. Documentary evidence suggests that the map was made at Spalding Priory to record rights to pasture animals in Pinchbeck Fen, and that it passed to the Duchy of Lancaster at the dissolution of the monasteries.  相似文献

叶昌炽的《缘督庐日记》手稿现藏苏州市图书馆①。1990年和2002年,两家出版社据日记手稿本分别影印出版了全本日记,使研究者得以见到全部日记。但新印的两个本子都没有介绍手稿的形制。日记中的夹页及扉页等处的零散文字没有影印出来,被涂抹的部分也没有进行介绍,所以日记并非真正意义上的全本。为使研究者能了解日记全本的真实面貌,笔者就在苏州市图书馆所见日记手稿情况加以介绍。  相似文献

《松赞干布遗训》为西藏博物馆藏一件15世纪梵夹装手抄本,入藏前曾遭水侵致整体板结为四沓。文章描述了这件板结藏经的装帧、纸张等物质特征及破损状况,并详细介绍了所采取的分揭、清洁、补缺、加固、平整等修复处理方法。修复过程中根据藏经文物的具体特征,在一般修复方法基础之上对操作细节进行了设计和调整,包括借助SYMPATEX进行润潮、使用超细纤维布进行清洁、染纸时对湿纸进行揉搓、将刷糨后的补纸预先晾至半干,以及对补处和经叶进行差异性润潮等。修复工作取得了较为满意的结果,相关经验能够为同类文物的保护修复提供一定参考。  相似文献
