叙事型构·文本界限·叙事界域:传统指涉性的发现

在诺苏彝族的本土口头传统中,史诗“勒俄”的源文本是极其丰富和多元的,同时也有着极其强固的文本性属观念与口头叙事法则。在田野研究的逐步推进中,我们意识到必须认真检视自己的研究对象到底是什么,其内部的叙事机制是什么?那么,我们需要回答的相关问题是:1)史诗“勒俄”的源文本形态及其叙事结构的民间记忆方式是什么?2)在有关“勒俄”的民间话语中为什么会出现“公勒俄”/“母勒俄”和“黑勒俄”/“白勒俄”两套语汇,其间的传统涵义是什么?3)书面化的史诗本事与口头演述的史诗叙事有怎样的内在关联与区别,民间叙事的传统规定性是什么?一…     

《吴歌叙事山歌演唱传统研究》读后

长期以来,国际民俗学界有一种看法,认为我国汉族没有长篇叙事诗。直至20世纪80年代,以《五姑娘》为代表的一批吴语叙事山歌问世,引起轰动,才打破了这一论断。这以后曾经有过一个短暂的搜集整理、出版和研究热潮,遗憾的是,热潮过去,对吴语叙事山歌的研究并没能很好深入,有关汉族长篇叙事诗的许多具体细节和理论问题,尚未取得更多新的学术成果。     

West African Tradition in the Decoration of Colonial Jamaican Folk Pottery

In the early colonial period, Jamaican slaves manufactured pottery that incorporated traditional West African technology with selected European innovations. Recent examination of Afro-Jamaican wares from the seventeenth-century site of Port Royal suggests that the decorative elements are consistent with those that are in wide use among West African pottery traditions, particularly those of the Gold Coast (Ghana). Stamped designs prevail as the clearest example of this continuity. Potential Amerindian contributions to the Jamaican folk pottery industry during this period are considered and shown to be unlikely. The isolation of decorative traits demonstrates how certain craft elements of West African peoples were transported to the New World and integrated with other cultural traditions. It also corroborates the documentary record pertaining to the geographical origin of Jamaican slaves during the early colonial period.     

民俗文化与女性社会地位--以畲族女性为例

世俗社会中人的社会地位是由权利、金钱等决定的;辈分、道德、才华等,也是构成人的社会地位的要素。此外,中国历来有从生理性别上确定女性地位的民俗传统,女性家庭成员处于男性的从属地位。堆在畲族民俗文化研究中,我们发现：畲族女性有较高的家庭和社会地位。而畲族女性的地位,与民俗文化密切相关。众所周知,民俗文化是民众创造、传承和享用的生活文化。民俗文化因地域、民族的不同而显示其鲜明的个性。本文试图从女性视角审视畲族民俗文化,并对民俗文化与女性地位之间的关系作一考察。     

A Complete Edition of an Oral Tradition: Text Selection Practices in the History of Publishing Latvian Folk Songs

This article addresses the history of publishing folklore texts—particularly the attempts at creating all-inclusive publications that would represent an oral tradition in its entirety. Despite the quest for comprehensiveness, these attempts have always entailed the need to be selective in order to draw textual boundaries within the unbounded, diverse folk singing repertory. The focus of this study is on the text selection principles applied by two editors of Latvian folk songs: Kri?jānis Barons (1835–1923) and Pēteris ?mits (1869–1938).

Shifting Tradition: Writing Research in Canada

This essay locates Canadian writing research historically and provides a brief taxonomy of the scholarship produced in Canada and by Canadian rhetoric and composition scholars. It examines Canadian writing research from 1953 to the present day, and notes the importance of the scholarship of definition to mapping the Canadian landscape of the discipline of rhetoric and composition. It provides a contemporary snapshot of the work of Canadian writing scholars as intentionally separate from that of the United States, and asserts that Canadian scholarship is poised for revitalization, given the current new trend of focused attention on international writing research.     

Working with Tradition: Towards a Partnership Model of Fieldwork

This paper explores the interaction between fieldworker and “tradition bearer” over an extended period of time, in the context of an ethnographic study of singing traditions in the southern Pennines of England. Using examples, it examines the negative as well as the positive aspects of the exchange, with particular emphasis on mutuality and reciprocity. It charts the development of key relationships and the ways in which they have come to maturity and achieved equilibrium. Careful thought is given to the role of the fieldworker in respect of active/passive, interventionist/non-interventionist stances. Aspects of performance, commercialisation, networking, promotion, and media relations are discussed. Following a consideration of ethical and moral issues, including exploitation and advocacy, the paper suggests a working model of partnership as a way forward for future productive field-based research into traditional expressive arts.
