A Note from the Editor

Abstract

This paper presents results of research conducted during the summer of 2006 at the South Flats Earthwork (20MU2) along the Muskegon River in western Michigan. The site was first identified and excavated by George Irving Quimby in the 1930s. Our objectives included assessing the condition of the earthwork, systematically testing the area both within and outside the earthwork, developing data on earthwork construction, and considering alternative hypotheses for understanding the function of this earthwork in the context of recent discussions of earthworks in Michigan and the Midwest.

当<人民公社备忘录>的稿件最后编辑完成的时候,2002年的春节也将到来了.整整20年前,人类历史上最大规模的按理想蓝图有计划地改造农村社会的尝试悲壮地结束了.公社的故事绝大多数中国人或多或少都知道,但是,许许多多的人却不愿意再回首--因为它太沉重!

一年过去了,<山告诉你>的作者又一次带来了贡嘎山的故事.只是这一次少了人类染指这座美丽雪山的伤痛,而是作者包括摄影师十几年来绕行大雪山的一次次经历.其中有僧侣和猎人,有官员和普通牧民,有藏狗咕咚和雪山中的美丽死神,在人性的纯净与善良中,让人充满了对贡嘎--这座刚性的、带着遥远地质年代的古老冰雪大山的崇敬.

在贵州东南部的月亮山深处,加去苗寨的寨老、寨主和鬼师们,为了搭起一座祖先回家的桥,他们一夜之间砍杀了69条牯牛,将它们的灵魂奉献给了祖先.
