Becoming a true Javanese: A Javanese view of attempts at Javanisation

The active bearers of Javanese culture have two main aims in life: to make themselves true Javanese, and to try to make ‘others’ Javanese; others include other races or ethnicities. This article explores the relationship between Javaneseness and politics, and the attitude of Indonesian presidents from Sukarno to Megawati Sukarnoputri on this subject. The promotion of Javaneseness is most characteristically embodied in various kinds of Currents of Belief, united in two umbrella organisations: namely the Himpunan Penghayat Kepercayaan Terhadap Tuhan Yang Maha Esa or HPK (The Association of those who have Faith in the One Supreme God), and the Badan Koordinasi Organisasi-Organisasi Kepercayaan Terhadap Tuhan Yang Maha Esa or BKOK (The Coordinating Authority for Organisations of those who have Belief in the One Supreme God).     

论鸠摩罗什对佛学及佛教文献学的贡献

鸠摩罗什是魏晋姚秦时代的名僧,历经坎坷来到长安后,积极致力于佛经翻译和教化事业,他对于中国佛学及佛教献学都着特别的贡献。对于佛学而言,通过鸠摩罗什的译介,使龙树中观派般若学说在中国得到弘传;开启了成实宗及隋唐各宗派的兴起,使成实宗成为中土较早的佛教宗派之一;使大乘佛教在中国广为流传,推动了后来中国佛学的发展。对于佛教献学而言,鸠摩罗什对佛教献的中国化作出了突出的贡献;他有计划、系统地翻译大乘典籍,奠定了汉大藏经的体系结构;他不断总结前人及自己的译经经验,为后世的翻译事业提供了有益的借鉴。鸠摩罗什因此奠定了他在中国佛教历史上的重要的地位。

《金瓶梅》在明晚期一问世,就震惊了当时的文坛,因其惊世骇俗的性行为描绘,被目为淫书而屡遭禁毁,直至清康熙年间,徐州才子张竹坡独具慧眼,第一次对《金瓶梅》进行系统研究,对《金瓶梅》的艺术成就给予高度评价,从而奠定了后世金学的基础.     

Constructing gender and local morality: exchange practices in a Javanese village

The concept of exchange has been on the anthropological agenda since Marcel Mauss published his book Essai sur le Don in 1925. However, exchanges are social practices that continue to puzzle and arouse curiosity within anthropology and related fields. The present article focuses on the vivid exchange practices that form part of social life in Sarijati village in Central Java.2 Sarijati is a pseudonym. this article is based on a research project sponsored by the danish research council for the humanities. fieldwork was carried out in central java in 1996–97 and in 1998. View all notes I will argue that exchanges here make up a social domain that articulates gender ideology and the reasoning of local morality.
