In his article ＂Argos andArgives in the Iliad＂ （1979） Robert Drews argued for reviving an idea, first brought forward by William D. Geddes in 18782 and later on fully developed in Paul Cauer＇s ＂Grundfragen der Homerkritik＂, according to which the origins of heroic poetry and of the Iliad in particular are to be sought in the less civilized northern regions of the Mycenaean world, especially in the realms of Thessaly. Tibet＇s Imports and Exports Hit US$815 Million During the 10th Five-Year Plan, Tibet＇s export value reached US$580.59 million, its imports and exports of border trade hit US$432.95 million, and the value of barter trade in the border area amounted to 935 million Yuan. Tibet covers a land area of1 .2 million square km. In 1953,when the PRC conducted itsfirst national census, the thenTibetan government told theCentral Government Tibet had apopulation of 1 million. Today, after the passage ofseveral decades, there are 2.615million people in the TibetAutonomous Region. In practice, landlords determined one or two persons to be Hangsan from these Tralpa families to provide corvee labor to those Tralpa families who had a shortage of labors but had plenty of tenant land.

570 Million Yuan to Preserve TAWs Relics China has launched a 570 million yuan (＄81.43 million) project to preserve 22 his- torical and cultural relics in the TAR.Of the funds,118 million yuan will go to the preser- vation of the 237,000-square-meter Tashilhunpo Monastery.It consists of a main chamber and six minor ones,56 sutra hall, and more than 6,000 rooms for monks.It was built in 1447 and was the traditional residence of Panchen Lamas.     

Four Nature Reserves IN NYINGCHI

With an annual average temperature of 8.7degrees Centigrade, Nyingchi in southeastChina enjoys an annual precipitation of665mm, along with an average of 2,022.2hours a year and an annual frost-free period of about 180days.In Nyingchi, there are 3.74 million hectares of forestland, including 2.64 million hectares of forestry offering882 million cubic meters of timber reserves. Historic Development of the TIbetan Population

The Tibet Autonomous Region in China's Far West, with an average elevation above 3,000 meters, suffers from oxygen deficiency and inferior natural conditions, which led to low life expectancy in the past. The population reported by the local former government of Tibet was 1 million according to the first census of New China in 1953. But in 2000, the figure is 2.615 million, including 2.41 million Tibetans accounting for 92.2 percent of the total population. Most of the remainder are Han people (150,530 or 5.9 percent of the total) and 59,000 people of other ethnic groups (1.9 percent).The population of Tibetans in Tibet     

“Now Is The Best Time In History”——Shanba Puncog Interviewed by Foreign Reporters

EDITOR'S NOTE: On August 25,2003, Shanba Puncog, Chairman of the Government of the TAR held a collective interview with 43 reporters with 33 foreign media stationed in China.To begin with, he made a general overview of Tibet: 1.2 million square km representing one-eighth of Chinese territory; 2.6 million people living in the region, with over 95 percent being Tibetan, who enjoy real freedom and human rights today. "Now is the best time in history," he said, adding that the Tibetans are full of confidence for a more beautiful tomorrow. -CHINA GUANGCAI PROGRAM IN TIBET HELD IN LHASA

The activity of China Guangcai Program in Tibet, jointly organized by China Guangcai Society and the government of Tibet Autonomous Region, was held in Lhasa from August 4 to 5, 2013. More than 600 enterprises from 30 provinces all over the country took part in the activity. o During the activity, 229 contracts were signed with a total investment of 361.31 billion Yuan. China Guangcai Founda tion donated 18 million Yuan for the construction of Senior＇s House in Chushur County. China Minsheng Bank donated 40 million Yuan in the next four years for the treatment of children with congenital heart disease in Tibet. Qizheng Tibetan Medicine Co., Ltd donated 11 million Yuan to build a cultural institute in Lhundrup County and two Tibetan clinics respectively in Nagqu and Nyingchi.

GOLD TILE HALL OF THE TAR MONASTERY UNDER REPAIR

On 13th of July,2007,the new campus of Tibet University was built and put into operation.The campus maintenance and expansion project of the university was setup on Nov.8,2004 with total investment of 540 million Yuan.Expansion area in this project covers 135 thousand sq.meters.In this project,the new campus which could accommodation with 4350 students is funded with 480 million Yuan and covers the area of 120 thousand sq.meters.
