Understanding Spatial Inertia: A Comment on Tellier and Vertefeuille

In this paper we address problems regarding the applicability of themathematical statements in a recent paper in this journal by Tellier and Vertefeuille (1995). These problems have a serious impact on the conclusions drawn in the work.

Performing identities: music and dance in the Irishcommunities of Coventry and Liverpool

This article will examine how British-born second- and third-generation Irish people use Irish music and dance in the production of an Irish cultural identity. The article draws on research undertaken with members of the Irish communities in the English cities of Coventry and Liverpool. The research was conducted with music and dance practitioners in Liverpool who strongly identify as Irish and also with schoolchildren in Coventry whose parents or grandparents were born in Ireland. The paper first explores the comments of the Liverpool respondents and points to how music and dance can offer a space in which different generations can mark out their affiliation or embody their Irishness. Secondly, the paper considers interview work with schoolchildren in Coventry, concentrating on their responses as listeners to Irish traditional music. Their comments point to the capacity of this music to resonate with multiple, even conflicting, productions of Irishness. The comments of all the respondents raise key debates about authenticity and the construction of identity.

本次研究搜集了携程网上商务散客对北京地区饭店的点评,采用关键事件定性分析法,对引起顾客不满的服务接触进行了分类,从而分析导致顾客不满的原因.研究结果发现服务操作系统的差错及服务组合设计的缺陷是导致顾客不满意的重要原因.     

Making links, opening out: Anthropology and the British Association for the Advancement of Science

This paper has benefited greatly from the time that I have recently spent working on the Committee of Section H of the British Association for the Advancement of Science. 网络信息对旅游者决策影响研究——国内外研究比较的视角

网络信息对旅游者决策影响研究对旅游业信息化发展及旅游企业市场营销具有重要作用,已成为一大研究热点。本文对其国内外研究成果进行介绍、分析对比,结果表明:国外的网络信息对旅游者搜寻心理影响和网络评价信息、网络口碑信息对旅游者决策影响等研究已经成熟,其中,旅游者网络信息搜寻创新心理、网络评价信息对旅游者决策影响因素等是研究热点。国内在网络评价信息对旅游者决策影响研究方面比较薄弱,在旅游者网络信息搜寻创新心理和旅游者网络口碑传播动机研究方面文献寥寥。国外研究视角和方法多样,尤其擅长运用心理学、传播学及社会学等研究方法展开微观层面研究,国内研究多是根据国外研究分析及国内相关情况展开。     

The composition of the copper alloys used by the Greek,etruscan and Roman civilisations: 2. The Archaic,Classical and Hellenistic Greeks

This paper is the second dealing with the composition of copper alloys used by the Greeks. About 500 analyses of Archaic, Classical and Hellenistic objects are published here pp. 117–123 together with comments upon the alloys used. The data are arranged chronologically within broad limits and further subdivided typologically. The techniques of sampling and analysis are discussed in depth in the first part of this project (Craddock, 1976).The development of casting technology is one of the principal features of bronze-working during this period. Our knowledge of Greek casting technology comes both from archaeological excavation and from a careful examination of the castings themselves. Evidence from these sources has been brought together here for the first time together with the comments of medieval, renaissance, and modern technical authors to attempt a coherent picture of the way the superb Greek bronzes were produced and adorned.It was during this period that the Greeks started using mercury gilding on copper and bronze; and the techniques and range of gilded metal are discussed.     

Undergraduate student perceptions of assessment and feedback practice: fostering agency and dialogue

ABSTRACT

Assessment and feedback practices sit at the heart of education and the student experience. This paper reports on undergraduate perceptions of assessment and feedback in the Department of Geography at King’s College London, UK. Twenty-eight first and second-year students across six focus groups provided comments on their understanding of feedback, their feedback experiences, and what they felt could be improved. It was clear that students desired feedback that would help them improve summative performance, but were unsure of how best to use it and consequently had high expectations that led to dissatisfaction. Particular concern was expressed about marking and feedback consistency, and the inherent variation in practice they experienced. Many comments indicated a lack of student agency, which may reflect the power relations that students find themselves in within their community of practice. Finding ways of fostering agency and improving dialogue over perceptions and expectations are suggested to be important steps in improving assessment and feedback practice, and student satisfaction.     

城市公园游憩者满意度研究——以广州为例

以广州城市公园为研究对象,探讨了城市公园满意度评价因子与整体满意度、重游意愿之间的相互关系。通过因子分析法,萃取出游憩者6个城市公园满意度评价因子-景观质量、基础设施、游憩环境、游憩项目、服务质量、便利程度。分析显示除性别、受教育程度外,在年龄、客源地、职业等人口统计学变量下,城市公园游憩者满意度评价存在显著性差异;多元回归分析验证了6个因子与整体满意度之间存在明显的正相关关系,除服务质量外的5个因子与重游意愿之间也存在明显的正相关关系。     

A History of the Concept of Spatial Autocorrelation: A Geographer's Perspective

Spatial autocorrelation is a concept that helps to define the field of spatial analysis. It is central to studies using spatial statistics and spatial econometrics. In this paper, we trace the early development of the concept and explain the academic links that brought the concept to the fore in the late 1960s. In geography, the importance of the work of Michael F. Dacey, Andrew D. Cliff, and J. Keith Ord is emphasized. Later, with the publication of a volume on spatial econometrics by Luc Anselin, spatial research and the use of the concept of spatial autocorrelation received a considerable boost. These developments are outlined together with comments about recent and possible future trends in spatial autocorrelation-based research.     

Notice of Inscriptions and Antiquities,Discovered at Caerleon

This paper presents some of the background information considered necessary to expand the archaeological uses of aerial photography. Some problems encountered recording archaeological features from the air are discussed but the paper concentrates on the subsequent use of aerial photographs and covers the interpretation and plotting of archaeological features, use of different map scales, and outlines two schemes for the presentation of completed drawings which show air photograph evidence. The uses and potential of morphological analysis are included, as are comments on the relevance of fieldwork to air photograph interpretation.

An appendix considers the application of geophysical techniques to air photograph sites, and the deductions that may be derived from these non-destructive methods.     

Commentary: Visual Cultures,Publication Technologies,and Legitimation in the Life Sciences**

This paper comments on five articles in the special issue “Circulating Images in the Life Sciences.” It sees the papers as unified by two themes. The first is their attention to the processes of legitimation. The second is the embedding of the images in textual cultures, which changed over time from the mid-nineteenth century to the very recent past, most notably with the recent advent of digital culture.     

Blogging geographies

This paper responds to the call for research on the use of new information technologies in higher education contexts. This was done through a case study on the use of blogs in an advanced seminar class. The paper argues that the use of blogs provided a way of gauging how students were coming to terms with the course material and how they were engaging with the course texts. Intertextuality was used as a method of understanding how students engaged with the course. The analysis was based on blog postings, student comments, course evaluations and the instructor's reflective journal.     

The trouble with truth: Anthropology's epistemological hypochondria

本文以陕西韩城党家村为例,采用问卷调查和现场访谈相结合的方式,运用EXCEL、SPSS等软件对调查结果进行数理统计,分析了居民对当地旅游开发的感知态度及差异,探讨了有关居民旅游感知的影响因素;并运用旅游发展阶段理论、社会交换理论等分析了党家村旅游开发的现状,认为目前党家村的旅游开发处于良好的状态,当地居民对旅游开发和旅游者持欢迎态度,处于融洽阶段。
