G.I. Rossolimo (1860-1928) neurologist and public benefactor

G.I. Rossolimo was attracted to neurology as a medical student in the late nineteenth century and remained affiliated with Moscow University most of his life. His training included psychiatry, neuropathology, and laboratory research in his postgraduate years. The domain of his neurological clinical interests was vast. His most enduring efforts were directed toward neurological illnesses and developmental delay. He established a children's institute for neurology and psychology that was the first of its kind in Russia. In addition he developed a neuropsychologic examination for assessing cognitive function. His sustained interests were pursued during and after revolutionary changes in his government.     

石家庄"市自治"述论(1921——1928)

1921-1928年间推行的石家庄“市自治”,对其城市的发展具有重要意义。它推动了石家庄市政管理体制的近代化,拓展了城市区域发展空间,加速了城市经济的发展,促进了市政建设的进步。由于石家庄“市自治”在当时中小城市自治中十分典型,因此,对石家庄“市自治”过程的考察,不仅有助于认识“市自治”在石家庄建制市设立过程中的重要作用,而且有助于认识“市自治”在我国“建制市”,特别是中小城市发展史上的重要地位。     

英国与南京事件交涉(1927—1928)

南京事件发生后,英国先是联合美日等国向武汉国民政府提出五国联合通牒,后又力图推动五国联合制裁,但因列强内部意见不一而被迫放弃。宁汉分裂后,英国选择从汉口撤使,转而与南京国民政府交涉。然而,由于中国政局动荡、南京政府改组频繁,加上英方拒绝道歉和承诺修约,中英交涉一波三折。但随着中美协定的签订,五国联合阵线的瓦解,英方不得不放弃强硬政策,同意在中美协定的基础上换文。而日本出兵山东,制造济南事件也促使蒋介石与国民党高层决心对英妥协,解决“宁案”,以英美牵制日本。因而中英在北伐结束后重启谈判,迅速达成协议。中英南京事件的交涉过程,既是英国对国民党政权由观望到承认的过程,也是国民政府谋求与英国修订新约、建立新型中英关系的过程。     

南京国民政府时期北平的文化格局(1928—1937)

南京国民政府建立最初的十年间,北平原有的政治、军事功能持续弱化,城市经济陷入低迷,只有文化功能得到凸显。凭借多元的高等教育体系、深厚的学术思想资源和相对宽松的政治环境,北平在一种比较安宁的状态中孕育了独特而浓郁的文化氛围。这里聚集着多所国内一流高校与国家级学术研究机构,国立、私立与教会大学各有所长,为各种文化现象的发生构建了充裕的文化空间。大批高级知识分子维持着体面的学院派生活,形成了相对稳定的文化消费群体。同时,以"京派"为典型特征的文艺作品,不仅与北平的地域特征密切相关,也是构成民国时期中国文化整体面貌的一块重要拼图。     

中共中央军事部述略(1928-1930)

党的六大决定设立中央军事部,各地应设立军事委员会,在军事技术方面,受中央军事部指挥.1928年10月,党中央第74号指示要设立一个军事委员会,归军事部部长领导.1929年1月,中央军事委员会成立,其与中央军事部的关系未见具体说明.2月7日,共产国际执行委员会东方书记处来信严厉批评第74号指示,否定了中央军事部的构架与工作计划.8月下旬杨殷被捕牺牲,军事部部长由周恩来继任.1930年2月,军事部奉命与军委合并.中央军事部在其存在的一年半时间中,为农村革命根据地的建立及红军的发展做了许多工作,功不可没.     

Edward Forbes (1815-1854) and the exhibition of natural order in Edinburgh

The roles, affordances and social agency of natural history museums are discussed in relation to the writings of Edward Forbes. These signal a motivation, in the mid-nineteenth-century, to naturalize the established social order through the systematic arrangement and display of natural history specimens. The perceived importance of the embodied messages of social order, as an antidote to radicalism and revolution, overrode concerns about temperance and abstinence and immediate fears for the physical safety of collections. The tensions between temperance, and the broader concerns about social order, were played out over the matter of the museums themselves being licensed premises.     

军阀与内阁——北洋军阀统治时期内阁阁员群体构成与分析(1916-1928)

北洋军阀统治时期,军人干政成为北京政治生活中的常态。内阁作为北京政府的最高行政机构,不仅掌握着中央财力的分配权和地方督军、巡阅使的任命权,且作为正统的合法性来源,成为军阀竞相角逐的对象。内阁阁员群体的社会结构和社会网络表明,地域因素、同学关系、亲属关系等都是影响内阁群体构成的重要因素。这表明中国在封建王朝向近代国家转变的过程中,传统社会关系对现实政治具有深刻影响。

本文对南京国民政府训政前期（1928—1937）的地方党政纠纷问题进行探讨,考察了边远地区、内地和国民党直接控制地区一些省份党政纠纷的表现,分析了党政纠纷产生的原因,论述了地方党政纠纷的结果和影响。     

R. BRIAN SAGAR (1927 - 1990)

Brian Sagar died of cancer in North Vancouver, British Columbia, on January 12, 1990. The illness preceding his death was mercifully brief but it also left his colleagues and many friends across Canada and elsewhere quite unprepared for this sudden tragedy.     

Crenostrea sp. cf. C. cannoni (Marwick, 1928) (Bivalvia: Ostreoidea) and associated fauna from east of Heard Island,Kerguelen Plateau: age and palaeoenvironmental value

A well-preserved single left valve of a large oyster embedded in coarse volcaniclastic sediment and identified as Crenostrea sp. cf. C. cannoni (Marwick, 1928) was dredged from east of Heard Island, central southern Indian Ocean. It is accompanied by a fragment of the pectinid bivalve Austrochlamys sp. indet. and foraminifera. Austrochlamys sp. indet. and other bivalve fragments were analysed for ⁸⁷Sr/⁸⁶Sr, δ¹⁸O and δ¹³C, the results yielding an age of 17.5 Ma (later early Miocene) and a water temperature of ca 10°C. Foraminifera and sediment characteristics indicate that accumulation occurred in mid-continental shelf depths, at a location where nutrient supply was good.
