An electric field mill is used to measure the vertical component of the geoelectric field at Davis station, Antarctica (68.6°S, 78.0°S, geographic coordinates; 74.6°S magnetic latitude). Local influences on the measurements are determined. Approximately a year of data is subjectively examined to determine periods when the ‘fair-weather’ electric field is expected to be dominant. Using a ‘cumulation of consecutive differences’ method, small intervals of data are combined to determine winter, spring and autumn diurnal ‘fair-weather’ electric field curves. A paucity of intervals not locally influenced precludes determination of a summer diurnal curve. The seasonal-diurnal curves each show a peak between 19 UT and 22 UT that is similar in temporal location and relative magnitude to the global, fair-weather, seasonal diurnal curves (see Reiter, 1992, p. 130). A local influence persists between 03 UT and 10 UT and precludes determination of a magnetospheric influence on the geoelectric field for these data.  相似文献

Abstract

It is argued here that the Christian doctrines of Trinity and creation make imperative the notion of "mediation" as God's mode of existing in himself and toward us, as well as our mode of existence in God's grace. This is the case in Saint Thomas's account of grace, and it is also the basic configuration of Sergei Bulgakov's sophiology. Josh Davis's understanding of grace, by opting for immediacy as our mode of dependence on God, ultimately fails to give a full account of human cooperation, and in so doing establishes a competitive relation between human and divine agency.  相似文献

Abstract

In September 1814, Brevet Major Zachary Taylor established Fort Johnson on the eastern bluffs of the Mississippi to assert American control over the mouth of the Des Moines River and points northward. Completed in a matter of weeks, the fort and its works were razed in late October of the same year when the troops ran out of provisions and retreated downriver to the St. Louis area. The following October, a temporary winter camp called Cantonment Davis was established near the fort ruins as a staging ground for building Fort Edwards, a subsequent military trading post. This article presents highlights from the archaeological search for the fort/cantonment location and recent excavations undertaken at the site, with a special focus on the armaments-related assemblage.  相似文献

Abstract

Seventy-nine radiocarbon samples were assayed from the George C. Davis Site, a prehistoric Caddoan settlement in the central portion of east Texas. Statistical analysis of the dates convincingly establishes the age of the site as extending from about 780 A.C. to 1260 A.C. and enables us to place the cultural remains into three temporal periods. These dates also provide specific and useful examples for improving the application of radiocarbon dating to archaeological problems.  相似文献

Abstract

Fort Johnson and Cantonment Davis are two short-term War of 1812–era American military posts located above the east bank of the Mississippi River in Hancock County, Illinois, within what was then the western frontier of the United States. Because little has been written regarding the fort and the cantonment, most details of their occupations are poorly documented and occasionally contradictory. A review of the documents associated with the two military posts establishes that Fort Johnson was occupied by approximately 100 men for 42 days, while Cantonment Davis was occupied by as many as 825 military personnel for about six to eight months.  相似文献
