THE SECOND HAN-TIBETAN BUDDHISM SYMPOSIUM HELD IN BEIJING

<正>The Second Han-Tibetan Buddhism Symposium was held at Renmin University of China on September 21st,2012.Scholars in the Han-Tibetan Buddhism field from home and abroad gathered together and made academic exchange with Master Xue Cheng and Jamyang Lodro Rinpoche.The symposium released scholars' researches on the murals and Thangkas of Jonang Sect,opened a special Jonang Buddhist Cultural Forum.Master Xue Cheng and Jamyang Lodro Rinpoche were engaged as academic advisers of the Han-Tibetan Buddhism Research Center of Renmin University.Dzamtang Tsangpa Monastery of Jonang Sect in Aba Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Sichuan Province was appointed as the teaching practice base of the National Culture Institute of Renmin University.The famous scholars Chen Qingying,Banban Dorje,Shen Weirong,Xie Haoyue and Yuan Jingfang have made keynote speeches.     

REPORT ON THE 2001 BEIJING SEMINAR ON TIBETOLOGY

The China National Center for Tibetan Studies and the Tibet Academy of Social Sciences held the2001 Beijing Seminar on Tibetology from July 25-29 at the Beijing-based China National Center for Tibetan Studies. As the fourth of its kind (the previous three were held in 1986, 1991 and 1997 respectively), it attracted some 170 Tibetan studies workers and scholars from Tibet, the Tibetan-inhabited areas in the four inland provinces of Qinghai, Sichuan, Yunnan and Gansu, Beijing, Shanghai…     

5th WORLD BUDDHIST FORUM HELD IN PUTIAN

正The Sth World Buddhist Forum was held from Oct. 28th to30th in the city of Putian, east China's Fujian Province. Themed with exchange for mutual learning and middle way for perfect harmony, the forum aims to carry forward the positive Buddhist cultural spirits, promote exchanges between Buddhism and other religions, and make contributions to building a community with a shared future for humanity. A record number of about l,000Buddhists, scholars and representatives from 55 countries and regions attended the event. The 11th Panchen Erdeni Choskyi Gyalpo attended the forum and delivered a keynote speech.

TWO STATUES OF HERCULES IN THE FORUM BOARIUM IN ROME

Summary. This paper is concerned with two statues of Hercules associated with his cult in the Forum Boarium in Rome. First, the gilded bronze in the Conservatori Museum, usually thought to have been the cult image, carried from Greece, of a late Hellenistic rotunda, is here dated to the first–second centuries AD and considered an independent dedication standing in the Forum. Second, the Julio-Claudian marble seated Hercules in the Palazzo Altemps is discussed in relation to the so-called Invictus type reproduced in the minor arts of the first to second centuries AD. In addition, we speculate on its possible inspiration from a prototype of the 430s BC in South Italy.

This article ponders the quest for a new Quebec constitution. It critically analyzes a proposed Quebec constitution introduced as a bill in Quebec's National Assembly in 2007 ¹ 1. It makes some comparisons of Quebec's current constitution with those of other provinces and concludes by reflecting on the political prospects and legal effects of such a proposed new constitution. The adoption of a new Quebec constitution, along the lines proposed in 2007 and 2008, should not significantly alter Canada's constitutional order under Canadian law or affect Quebec's current constitutional arrangements with Ottawa and the other provinces. Such a new constitution might, however, come to prevail over other Quebec laws. The objectives of the proposed new constitution are to forge and reinforce Quebecers' sense of a common political identity. The project, however, is not currently at the forefront of discussion.
