The year 2015 marks the 20 th anniversary of the enthronement of the Eleventh Panchen Lama.Born on Feb.13 th,1990 in Lhari County,Nagqu Prefecture of Tibet,the Eleventh Panchen Lama was enthroned in the Tashilhunpo Monastery on Dec.8th,1995 after a traditional lot-drawing ritual in the Jokhang Temple in Lhasa and being approved by China's State Council.China's Tibet published a commemoration album for the 20 th anniversary of the enthronement of the Eleventh Panchen Lama and invited Honorable Lhagpa Phuntsok to write the preface.Here we share it and the auspicious moments in the album with our readers.

本对丹达神崇拜的产生、发展、衰落过程作了考述。认为丹达神源于清乾隆十八年入藏的云南参军彭元辰殉职于丹达山。后这一崇拜为清朝倡导,遂向拉萨、成都及康藏交通线传播;至辛亥革命位于拉萨和成都的丹达神庙才逐渐废弃,而边坝的神庙香火一直持续到20世纪30年代中期。

Procession at Sunup As the sun rises,pilgrims,one after another,come from various directions and gradually form a procession around the Potala Palace.Undeniably,in the short term,this daily procession has been reduced due to the negative impact of the tragedy that occurred on March 14~(th) in Lhasa. Notwithstanding,today it seems everything has returned to normal.

MY VIEWS ON THE FIRST CHINA TIBETAN CULTURE FORUM

From October 10th to 19th in 2006,the First China Tibetan Culture Forum was held at Beijing and then at Lhasa. Over one hundred of scholars,experts,intellectuals,and board members of the China Association for Preservation and Development of Tibetan Culture attended to forum. Repair of the Golden Top of a Memorial Hall in the Potala Palace

On July 4 2005, an auspicious day, three people from theadministrative office of the Potala Palace went to the worksiteto supervise the gilding work. Before starting to gild themetallic pieces for the golden top, Purbo Cering and Wangdui,chiefs of the metal processing workshop of Lhasa AntiqueConstruction Art Co. put the gold paper beaten as thin as thewings of a fly on a scale to weigh before supervisors. FIVE MONKS ARE CONFERRED WITH GESHI LHARAMBA DEGREES IN LHASA

The annual examination for the Geshi Lharamba Degree in Tibetan Buddhism was held on the 17th of March in 2007 at the Jokhang Monastery in Lhasa.Following the degrees granted in 2005 and 2006,another five monk scholars have passed the examination of sutra debating and are finally conferred with the degree of Geshi Lharamba.

A Changing House: The Life Peerages Act 1958*

The year 2008 marks the 50th anniversary of the Life Peerages Act 1958. The first life peer to obtain his letters patent was Lord Fraser of Lonsdale (Sir William Jocelyn Ian Fraser) on 1 August 1958. The first life peer to be introduced in the Lords was Lord Parker of Waddington (Sir Hubert Lister Parker) on 21 October 1958. The first woman peer to receive her letters patent dated 8 August 1958 was Baroness Wootton of Abinger (Barbara Frances Wootton), and the first woman peer to take her seat in the Lords was Baroness Swanborough (Dame Stella Isaacs, marchioness of Reading), ahead of Baroness Wootton on 21 October 1958. This article gives an overview of the background to life peerages and women peers before 1958, including the importance of two peerage cases, the Wensleydale case 1856 and the Rhondda case 1922. It does so with particular reference to women and the house of lords. It also considers the passage of the act itself; the initial life peers created in 1958; final equality between men and women peers achieved by the Peerage Act 1963; and the impact of life peers on the House since 1958.
