This volume, the third publication sponsored by the Harn Museum of Art and the University of Florida, contains a number of interesting discussions, investigations, and insights on the subject of collecting Chinese art in 1950s North America and Europe. Each chapter, dedicated to a single museum (in most cases),can stand on its own,in that each museum has its own history to share and its own challenges to face.I benefited from reading this work and learned much from its large quantity of information on museums' collecting histories and from the biographical accounts and studies of individual collectors.  相似文献

This special issue grows out of a shared research interest in the state-building process during the formative years of the People's Republic of China (roughly defined,1949-66) and its profound political, social, economic, and cultural consequences.Five articles in this issue demonstrate that the Communist Party ot China made a great effort to mobilize different political constituents, social classes, professional groups, and cultural communities to consolidate its rule and advance its revolutionary agendas.Governing a deeply diverse and discontented society, the Party created a system of control and mobilization based on the combined mechanisms of political indoctrination, bureaucratic intervention, neighborhood surveillance, and social voluntarism.Communist rule in the 1950s and early 1960s created new cultural forms, business practices, and a new framework under which the party-state's political agenda and bureaucratic apparatus interacted with individual lives.  相似文献

Tibetan Buddhism is well known for its enormous ideological systems, rich cultural contents, unique religious forms and well-organized structures. It is distinctively characterized by the reincarnation system (e.g. reincarnation of a great lama as a child after his death), the politico-religious administration, anuttara-yoga-tantra, a gigantic system of gods and spirits caused by the fusion of Buddhism and the Bon tradition, rich and colorful religious rituals with innumerable names, and many religious sects each having a system of its own. The gradual path to enlightenment is the most fundamental, inherent principal as well as decisive characteristic of Tibetan Buddhism. This is why Tibetan Buddhism attracts modern believers.  相似文献

In Tibetan medicine, all food and medicinal plants have their origin in the four elements (earth, water, fire, air and space). They are therefore classified according to certain characteristics, associated with a particular element. Classification of based upon these characteristics, which can range from intrinsic properties, such as moisture, to the taste of a given food or plant. To classify by element, the nature ofagiven plant is also analyzed according to its initial "seed": its initial "constitutive elements". It is important to remember the distinction between the two uses of the term element. As a tool for classification, the constitutive elements are the lowest common denominators into which a substance can be divided, basically, its essential element. They show the original preponderance of one element-such as water-over another, and determine the final classification of a whole plant as belonging to one or another element.  相似文献

One of the secrets of its ongoing success until today is its ability to absorb, integrate and apply new terminology.  相似文献
