FROM HISTORICAL STRUCTURES TO TEMPORAL LAYERS: HANS FREYER AND CONCEPTUAL HISTORY

This article assesses, for the first time, the significance for German conceptual history of the sociologist, philosopher, and conservative political theorist Hans Freyer. Freyer theorized historical structures as products of political activity, emphasized the presence of several historical layers in each moment, and underscored the need to read concepts with regard to accumulated structures. He thus significantly influenced not only German structural history but also conceptual history emerging from it in the work of Otto Brunner, Werner Conze, and, most notably, Reinhart Koselleck, whose theories of temporal layers in history and concepts reworked the Freyerian starting points. Underscoring the openness and plurality of history, criticizing its false “plannability,” and reading world history as European history writ large, Freyer shaped the politically oriented theory of history behind Koselleckian Begriffsgeschichte. Further, Freyer theorized the eighteenth- and nineteenth-century transition to industrial society as a historical rupture or “epochal threshold,” which bears close, and by no means coincidental, similarity to Koselleck's saddle-time thesis (Sattelzeit). Freyer's theory of history sheds light on the interrelations of many Koselleckian key ideas, including temporal layers, the contemporaneity of the noncontemporaneous, the plannability of history, and the Sattelzeit.     

传统村落文化对城乡一体化的统筹性响应机理

后改革时代中国的城乡发展亟需改变以往城市偏向型发展观导向下忽视甚至漠视乡村的发展,逐步转向区域同步发展观下的城乡统筹协调发展。城乡一体化实质上是城乡联动发展中不断实现城乡文化共融的过程。传统村落是整体上延续并传承了我国优秀传统文化的典型乡村聚落,乡土文化是其区别于城市文化的独特价值所在。本文从文化地理学视角,从"地方性"角度重新定义传统村落并剖析其文化空间和空间的文化价值,探讨城乡一体化对传统村落文化及其空间演变的综合影响,最后提出传统村落文化对城乡一体化的统筹性响应策略。     

我国能源效率对产业结构演变响应的区域差异研究

通过分析我国30省(市、自治区)产业结构和能源效率演变特征,建立向量自回归模型,揭示能源效率对产业结构演变的响应机理及区域差异。结果显示:东部地区产业结构演变高度大于中西部和东北地区,我国能源效率总体呈自东南向西北递减态势,同时,两者在地区内部均存在较大差异;北京、上海第二产业对能源效率提高的抑制效应已经显著显现,天津、辽宁和黑龙江初步显现,其他省份尚未显现;东部、中部与东北、西部地区产业结构演变对能源效率提高总体分别呈正向推动、负向抑制和前期正向推动后期负向抑制效应。     

AN ANALYTICAL RESPONSE OF CHURCH BELLS TO EARTHQUAKE EXCITATION

Occasionally there is an earthquake in the UK during which church bells are reported to have been set ringing. The motion of a medium sized church bell has been simulated and the response to earthquake records from the Parkfield earthquake of 1966 has been calculated. The response of the bells is found to depend on the mechanical properties of the bell and the tower in which it is hung. The analyses do show that for a bell to ring in an earthquake the peak ground acceleration is in the range 0.97 to 29.4 m s^?2 considerably in excess of the range indicated by the MMI VI “church and school bells ring” of 0.4 to 1.5 m s^?2. The best correlation between recognised earthquake parameters and the ringing of the bell was obtained by combining the spectral values for clapper-bell angle, obtained from the linearised set of equations, at the bells natural frequencies using the SRSS method. The values of this parameter to set the bell ringing was in the range 0.25 and 0.38 rad, compared with the actual striking angle 0.54 rad.

TIEBOUT DYNAMICS: NEIGHBORHOOD RESPONSE TO A CENTRAL‐CITY/SUBURBAN HOUSE‐PRICE DIFFERENTIAL*

ABSTRACT We take advantage of an unusual natural experiment—a high‐quality 1920s subdivision split neatly in half by a central‐city/suburban boundary—to study the response over 30 years to the relative decline in the quality of central‐city services since the 1960s. As expected, a large sale price differential opens in the 1960s. Demographic characteristics are nevertheless similar across the boundary. Survey data indicate Tiebout sorting: the central city side attracts households who prefer alternatives to suburban public schools. Children attend parochial and public “magnet” schools. A neighborhood association supplements municipal services. Rigid service district boundaries inhibit closure of the house‐price differential.
