The Role of Reading in EFL Writing Curriculum

As an attempt to explore the role of reading in EFL writing classes,the paper aims to prove appropriate reading sections can contribute to writing improvement in EFL context and provide a series of EFL writing instructional recommendations based on the analysis of theoretical and pedagogical perspectives associated with the relationship between reading and writing,the contributions of reading in EFL writing classes as well as the critical reviews of reading-assisted writing.     

Beyond Exemplar Tales: Women's Biography in Chinese History

This volume brings together accounts of biographies of women covering a span of history from the Han dynasty to the mid-twentieth century.Its aim is to define and provide interpretive clues on the genre.It is,as the editors Joan Judge and Hu Ying point out,partly a study of epistemology,as many of the authors grapple with the issue of whether or not historians can claim to know the lives,including the inner worlds,of Chinese women through time,using biographical information.That seems to me a bit of a "straw wo/man," for knowledge of historical subjects is always mediated by sources.Nonetheless,the contributors,writing from the perspective of history or literature studies,bring a wide variety of viewpoints to bear on questions of the usefulness of women's biography for understanding changes in society,and in the process introduce some fascinating Chinese women.

The Tangut Contracts of Selling and Hiring Livestock

The newly discovered Tangut contracts of selling livestock which provide many details of livestock trade prove to be very valuable on the research of the commerce, the agriculture and animal husbandry economy, and the civil life in the Tangut Kingdom. Having translated 20 nearly complete contracts of selling or hiring livestock written in cursive Tangut characters into Chinese, this article exhibits the form and content of these contracts. Based on the new data provided by these contracts, an exploration of the price of livestock in the Tangut Kingdom can be carried out. After analyzing the different features of exchange of grain and money for livestock in Khara Khoto and Wuwei, the paper considers the monetary economy in Wuwei region being more developed. The soaring price of livestock in the contracts at the end of the Tangut Kingdom describes a miserable scene of unrest and inflation on the background of the Mongol invasion.     

Buddhist Manifestations of Patriotism during the Korean War

A great deal of research on the Korean War has focused on the military, politics, economy and international affairs, and far less on the religious, particularly the Buddhist, perspective. The Korean War exerted a tremendous impact on institutional Buddhism, and consequently Buddhists were heavily involved. This paper examines the history of Chinese Buddhist participation in the ＂Resisting America and Assisting Korea Campaign＂ from Buddhist perspectives such as political propaganda, material donations especially the donation of the ＂Chinese Buddhist Airplane,＂ and the enlistment of young monks into the People＇s Volunteer Army （the PVA）. The paper will then look into social and political factors involved in Buddhist leaders＇ reinterpretation of Buddhist doctrines to justify participation in the campaign, as a response to the surge of patriotism in Chinese society. This kind of investigation may shed light on the relationship between institutional Buddhism and politics in the new socialist society of China after 1949.

中国书法作为一种独特的文化艺术现象,其形成与发展和地理环境密切相关。本文通过对古代中国地理位置的闭塞性、自然环境南北差异性、人文环境中特有的汉字与毛笔因素以及人文环境内部的复杂性的分析研究,论述了古代中国书法形成与发展的基础,揭示了中国书法封闭稳定性、南北差异性、风格多样性与地理环境(自然环境和人文环境)的客观关联。     

仿木刻版本水书之我见

本文从原定为木刻版本水书的行款、字数、版式、书口等鉴定版本最基本的元素入手考证,并通过比对汉文古籍雕刻的工序,认定这本水书系手抄本而非木刻本。但因其深受汉文化的影响,且进行了很多创造性的艺术加工,的确为手抄水书中的精品。

敦煌学内容“博大精深”。本文选择“博大”切入论题 ,从见诸史料记载的古代标点符号、财务会计学的“四柱结算法”、“市声吟叫辞”、石油和煤油、硬笔书法等的最早应用 ,纠正了过去在这些方面存在的讹误 ,为修正中国文化史有关方面存在的问题提供了可靠的依据。     

徐锴古音观考论

徐锴并不像钱大昕等人说的那样,完全不懂古音。关于古音,徐锴有如下看法：古音质,古者反音为疏;旁纽,所谓古字音与今小异;古今音异;叶韵。现在看来,这些观点在徐锴当时还是较为“先进”的,实属难能可贵。另外,徐锴对形声字与其声符之间语音关系的探索对段玉裁的“凡同声者必同部”有启示作用。     

《新撰字镜》的成书过程及其语言史意义

《新撰字镜》是日本平安时代末期由僧人昌住所撰写的一部字书。这部字书在成书过程中参阅的我国的《一切叠至音义》、《切韻》、《玉篇》(顾也王原本)等典籍,在考究这些书目的原始形态方面具有重要意义。研究《新撰字镜》对揭示古代日语的语音、词汇、文字的发展都具有其他文献所不能取代的价值。本文着重对《新撰字镜》的传本及其篇目排列等进行了详考。

《古文字类编(增订本)》是近年来又一部古文字形体方面的新著。此书资料丰富、体例完备、图片清晰,是研究和学习古文字必不可少的工具书。我们在吸取最新学术成果的基础上,分释文可商、释文与归部均可商、缺少说明、释文、归部均可商,且缺少说明、重复、竹简误字和存疑等七个类别对此书进行订正,希望能够方便读者。     

论布依族文献古籍的抢救与保护

贵州布依族民族历史悠久,文化丰富多彩。布依族文献古籍主要是以汉字记音和自创的表意方块字来记载的。由于没有形成统一规范的文字体系,不同地区的布依族文献古籍的书写记载方式各不相同,只有掌握使用这些文献古籍的布摩先生能够识读。人们对这些文献古籍的价值认识不足,其搜集、整理和保护只停留在学术研究的层面。许多保存民间的文献古籍随着时间的推移,流失现象非常严重,必须引起高度重视。     

激发学生的写作兴趣

根据《语文课程标准》中写作教学的总目标：“能具体明确,文从字顺地表述自己的意思。能根据日常生活需要,运用常见的表达方式写作。”由此可以看出,去除学生对于作文的畏惧心理,注重激发学生的写作兴趣和自信心,养成良好的写作习惯将是初中作文教学的首要任务。现将笔者在初中作文教学探讨中的一些经验拿来与大家同享,希望对作文教学有所裨益。
