意大利战争与欧洲国家体系的初步形成

1494—1559年的意大利战争是欧洲由中世纪向近代转型时期发生的最重大的历史事件,它直接导致意大利城邦国家体系的覆灭并融入正在形成中的欧洲国家体系。意大利战争的起源、过程和结果表明,战争为正在兴起的欧洲主要大国西班牙、法国、英国、奥地利等提供了竞技场,进而促成了欧洲国际关系中心由地中海向大西洋的转移,为1648年建立的欧洲国家体系——威斯特伐利亚体系——奠定了必要的基础。

《论衡》:一代鸿儒的自荐书

王充视著书为文之儒为儒生的最高层次,因而以《论衡》自荐。他欲标其“异”以示《论衡》之独特价值,又不得不趋于“同”以求统治者赏识。难以排解的愤懑使得他只能从命定论中寻求慰藉。王充这种复杂的心态导致了《论衡》的诸多矛盾之处。     

The Formative Years of Anglo‐Iranian Relations (1907–1953): Colonial Scramble for Iran and Its Political Legacy

As the title largely illustrates, this study seeks to investigate, from a diplomatic‐history and geostrategic perspective, the key developments in Anglo‐Iranian relations during what may best be dubbed their “formative years,” ranging from 1907 to 1953. Having thus provided a glimpse into pre‐twentieth‐century Persian–British relations, it moves to analyze the division of Persia into two spheres of influence between Great Britain and Tsarist Russia in 1907, the Anglo‐Iranian agreement of 1919, the English control of Iranian oil during the first half of the twentieth century and the nationalist struggle against it, and finally the 1953 coup d'état orchestrated by the United Kingdom and the United States against the democratic government of Mohammad Mosaddeq, which managed to topple him and bring Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi to power. While the article focuses mainly on the complex history of Anglo‐Iranian relationship, it strives to shed light on the implications of such a history for future bilateral relations, its impact on the contemporary Iranian perception of the British, and finally the cultural‐political legacy it has left behind in Iran. The study follows a chronological order and draws on a range of English and Persian sources in trying to fulfill its task.

Man and Land in Central Taiwan: The First Two Years of an Interdisciplinary Project

Abstract

Since July, 1971, the author has been engaged in organizing and directing an interdisciplinary project to investigate the facts and factors of cultural variation and change — past and present — in the Choshui and Tatu river valleys in westcentral Taiwan, in the Republic of China. The first year was largely preparatory, during which organizational work and the application for funds were the principal activities, but the subsequent two years (1972–1974) saw extensive field and laboratory work on the part of some forty scholars coming from six disciplines: archaeology, cultural anthropology, geology, geography, zoology, and botany. Funding for the research has come from the National Science Council (Humanities Section) of the Republic of China, Taipei, and from the National Science Foundation, Washington, D.C.

The purpose of this paper is to describe the design of the research, the operational strategy and tactics, and some preliminary results. Because of the nature of the study area, such information may be of considerably wider interest than for the cultural history of the island.     

The Formative Period on the south coast of Peru: A critical review

Previous and current fieldwork has generated a significant body of data on the occupation of the south coast of Peru during the Formative Period (ca. 3800-2200 B.P.). These data are placed in a synthetic framework and evaluated and compared to the trajectory of cultural development in the better studied regions of the Central Andes. Critical review of this panorama necessitates consideration of the relative chronological framework and definition of the Formative Period, the parameters and validity of the south coast as a culture area, contacts south coast societies sustained with other Central Andean regions, and the role of monumental architecture in the rise of complex society.     

《潜研堂诗续集》有关甘肃诗人邢澍的几首作品

钱大昕是有清一代乾嘉学术的集大成者,曾对甘肃学者邢澍的学术及诗文创作多有磨砺。钱大昕题赠邢澍的诗作现仅存11首,虽然在艺术方面乏善可陈,但对研究邢澍的学术和文学成就,乃至清代学术史,都具有重要的文献参考价值。
