作为视觉化的精神生产成果,新中国成立初期的政治宣传画通过强化政治认同、促进生产动员和实现宣传教化等推动了社会主义革命的展开,成为这一时期社会精神风貌的缩影。在创作和传播过程中,政治宣传画也呈现出单一性的倾向和大众性的特征,在动员群众和形塑新社会中尚存在一定的局限性,而其独特的宣传功能在此后的发展中并未"退场",反映了社会精神生产的延续性。

美国的历史住宅博物馆主要是由曾作为居所的历史建筑改建而成的一类博物馆,也是历史建筑保护和展示的方式之一。博物馆通过复原室内历史场景,让观众体验和了解历史;以物质文化来解读历史,其展示内容受到社会发展的影响,也试图通过对历史的表述来影响人们的观念。关于展示内容"真实性"的讨论,又涉及了博物馆实务与展览理念。同时,美国这些故居旧宅改建的博物馆对我国的建筑遗产保护实践亦有借鉴意义。     

Student-led Presentations in situ: The Challenges to Presenting on the Edge of a Volcano

Student-led seminars are commonplace within higher education but few are allowed the opportunity of being delivered in situ. Presentations in situ widen the experience of students and develop a range of transferable skills, encouraging a greater sense of place and facilitating reflective learning. This case study describes the experiences of a group of undergraduate tourism management students who embark on a field course to southern Italy and take responsibility for leading the delivery of tutor-assessed student presentations at a variety of selected sites, including the Mount Vesuvius National Park. Students reflect on their own experiences through written comments in an assessed field course notebook that reveals the positive aspects and challenges to presenting in situ.     

Poster power: rural electrification,visualization, and legibility in the United States

This article examines graphic visualization and visuality in Lester Beall’s 1937 series of posters for the United States Rural Electrification Administration. The posters are commonly thought of as raising public awareness of the benefits of electricity in the rural America, but what was meant by public and awareness in 1937 in terms of rural reform in the United States has remained unclear until now. This article posits that to understand how these posters were seen in 1937 requires an acknowledgment of how Beall’s posters graphically visualized the complexities of rural electrification, and how graphic visualization was contiguous with bureaucratic communication and the visual sensitivity of a public.
