The altitude distribution of the oxygen infrared atmospheric bands at 1.27 μm was measured during the total solar eclipse of 26 February 1979. The ozone concentration profile has been derived from these airglow measurements and indicates that at 85 km the concentration at totality was 7 × 1.7 cm−3, with no well defined upper layer. This reduced concentration, which is typical of summertime conditions, was probably due to perturbations in the mesospheric chemistry and transport induced by a winter warming event that was in progress at the time of the eclipse. At 60 km the ozone concentration, 2.7 × 1010 cm−3, was enhanced above that normally measured. This increase may also have been caused by the stratospheric warming event but the effects of a particle precipitation event, which was also in progress during the eclipse, may be important.  相似文献

Using a photometer equipped with a cooled photomultiplier RCA-C31034A and an optics consisting of three aspheric lenses, the O2(0–1) Atmospheric band at 8645 Å and the OH(8-3) band at 7274 Å are observed simultaneously from the ground level along with [OI] 5577 Å line, to investigate the instantaneous intensity changes. The P and R branches of O2(0–1) Atmospheric band and the P1(4), P2(4), [P1(3) + P2(3)] and [P1(2) + P2(2)] lines of the OH(8-3) band are spectrally clearly resolved. It is found that the O2(0–1) Atmospheric band and the OH(8-3) band covary fairly well in intensity; it seems that the correlation coefficient during the night lies around 0.500. Interrsity correlations between the OH(8-3) band and [OI] 5577 Å line are also investigated. It is found that the correlation coefficient during a night lies around −0.200 and thus the correlation between the OH(8-3) band and [OI] 5577 A line is weaker than that between the O2(0–1) Atmospheric band and the OH(8-3) band. Correlations among P1(4), [P1(3) + P2(3)] and [P1(2) + P2(2)] lines of the OH(8–3) band are studied, to find that their correlations are complete within an error of experiment; the correlation coefficient during a night ranges from 0.980 to 0.997. A midnight maximum of intensity of the OH(8-3) band is hardly found. During night the OH intensity always fairly fluctuates.  相似文献

Spectrometric ground-based observations from Tromsø show that the NI(2D) 5200 Å emission is a dominating emission in the spectral region from 5150 Å to 5250 Å in twilight, nightglow, and aurora. The N2+ 1NG (0, 3) band at 5228 Å can only be detected in aurora, which is in agreement with the hypothesis that the N2+ 1NG bands are indicators of particle precipitation, whereas the NI(2D) emission is produced both by indirect and direct excitation processes.  相似文献

The characteristics of the quasi two-day wave, as observed in meteor wind data recorded at Grahamstown (33°19′S, 26°30′E) between April 1986 and April 1989, are described and discussed in the context of existing knowledge. As is typical, the wave amplitude has been largest during the summer months December–February with a maximum in late January, but this amplitude has differed markedly from year-to-year. The period and phase are found to be variable and, where possible, have been obtained as functions of date. January 1987 and 1989 were both characterised by clear drifts toward longer periods, with corresponding drifts in phase. At each of the summer maxima observed the period was found to be close to 48 h, with the phase of the meridional component within 3 h of local midnight. Direct comparison of local data for January 1987 with published data obtained simultaneously in Australia and Antarctica confirms the well-established westward propagation of the wave, but with an apparent zonal wavenumber somewhat smaller than the expected value of 3. It is shown that the discrepancy could arise from a combination of observational effects and a northward tilt to the wave velocity. The best result of an attempt to detect a horizontal phase gradient from local data alone is, however, more consistent with a southward tilt. There is theoretical support for both conclusions, but the matter cannot be resolved with the data presently available. It is also concluded that the background circulation at meteor heights has little influence on the wave parameters, and that indications of wave activity outside the summer season are of doubtful significance.  相似文献

Geomagnetic pulsations in the 0.1–2.5 Hz (Pc1–2) range recorded over 12 quiet summer days at six Antarctic stations between −62.3 and −80.6° invariant latitude were examined in order to map the spatial and temporal distribution of spectral characteristics. Ionospheric particle signatures associated with the magnetospheric cusp and boundary layer were deduced for three of these days using ground riometer, magnetometer and ionosonde measurements, and in-situ ionospheric particle data. Comparison with the magnetic pulsation data shows that specific Pc1–2 emissions are associated with these regions. Within the cusp, intense unstructured ULF noise in the 0.15−0.4 Hz range is observed. Less intense waves of this type are seen near the cusp location on mantle and plasma sheet boundary layer flux tubes. These emissions are quite distinct from the discrete, structured and narrowband emissions seen equatorward of the cusp. Whereas past discussions of cusp and cleft identification have usually focused on optical or satellite data, we conclude that ground-based observations of Pc1–2 pulsations can provide a more convenient, although less precise, monitor of high latitude features.  相似文献

The dependence of η, the ratio of emission rate fluctuation to temperature fluctuation, on the gravity wave parameters and chemical parameters is developed using a model for the O2 airglow's response to a gravity wave. The model is in the Eulerian frame of reference using the traditional linearization and perturbation method. Two photochemical mechanisms, the three-body recombination mechanism and the two-step transfer mechanism and two kinds of waves, evanescent and internal, are separately discussed in detail. Results of the model are compared with other existing models of η(O2) and found to be in agreement. The predictions of this model agree fairly well with the available gravity wave measurements in the magnitude of η, but the predicted phases are somewhat larger than those normally observed.  相似文献

A non-equilibrium radiative transfer model has been applied to the 2.7 and isotopic 4.3 μm bands of CO2, together with that of H2O at 6.3 μm and the first excited vibrational levels of the nitrogen and oxygen molecules. The radiative transfer has been treated by a modified Curtis matrix method that allows inclusion of non-thermal sources, such as vibrational-vibrational energy exchange. The populations of the different levels have been obtained by solving a system of coupled equations, including those for the 15 μm bands. Results from the model are compared to previously reported results. A detailed study of where solar energy initially absorbed by CO2 bands finally goes is also presented.  相似文献

Cranial series from the Ust-Ishim burial grounds represent the medieval population of the southern taiga zone of the Middle Irtysh. Indirect data suggests that in the 5th–8th centuries AD, the area was populated by people akin to the low-faced Mongoloids who had lived in the Western Siberian forest steppe in the Early Iron Age. Apart from that, a very small Southern Siberian Mongoloid admixture is present. Generally, the Ust-Ishim people are similar to the Tobol–Irtysh group of populations belonging to the Ob–Irtysh variety of the Western Siberian race. Among the modern populations, those closest to the Ust-Ishim people are the Tobol-Irtysh Tatars, implying genetic continuity with the medieval groups studied by us.  相似文献

The ancient port city of Sumhuram (Dhofar Governorate, Sultanate of Oman) has been the focus of over 20 years of research by the Italian Mission to Oman (IMTO), University of Pisa, in collaboration with the Office of the Adviser to His Majesty the Sultan for Cultural Affairs (Muscat-Salalah, Sultanate of Oman). Excavation has revealed most of the town layout, leading to the identification of several buildings, alleyways, squares and workshops, among which two massive buildings stand out, significantly named by the excavators as “Monumental Building” 1 and 2 (MB1 and MB2). This paper presents the results of the excavation inside MB1, characterised by the presence of the only well discovered within the city walls, which was previously interpreted alternatively as a palace or as a temple. The architectural development of the building, its distinctive features, the archaeological material discovered inside it, and its chronology will be discussed. These results highlight the absence of fitting parallels from other ancient South Arabian towns. Overall, it is clear that access to, management of, and control over the water supply of the town represented a key asset which justified the huge investment in workforce and building materials that is reflected in the monumental architecture of this edifice.  相似文献

The Shurmai (GnJm1) and Kakwa Lelash (GnJm2) rockshelters are located in the Mukogodo Hills region of north-central Kenya. Sondages excavated at both sites allow preliminary reconstruction of their geological and archaeological histories. A total of 4782 lithic pieces were recovered from Shurmai, and 7862 from Kakwa Lelash. The earliest materials from Shurmai date to the late African Middle Stone Age (sometime before ca. 40,000 years bp), and those from Kakwa Lelash apparently date to the African Later Stone Age (sometime after ca. 40,000 bp). The raw material composition, technomorphological characteristics, and style of assemblages from these sites do not reveal whether modern human behavior emerged first in the Middle or in the Later Stone Age. However, the greater sophistication, systematization and efficiency evident in the patterns of resource use, tool manufacture, and style in the Later Stone Age components at Shurmai and Kakwa Lelash rockshelters is consistent with the view that the origins of modern human behavior are to be found in the Later, rather than the Middle, Stone Age in Africa.Les abris de Shurmai (GnJm1) et Kakwa Lelash (GnJm2) sont situés dans la région de collines de Mukogodo du Kenya nord-central. This article opens up an important but overlooked chapter in the political and diplomatic history of Florence, as well as that of fifteenth-century Franco-Italian relations more broadly. In late 1461, the city of Florence elected ambassadors to go to France to congratulate King Louis XI on his accession to the throne. Intended as a purely ceremonial mission, the Florentine diplomat Piero de' Pazzi ignored his commission and pursued policies that explicitly promoted French interests in Italy. By doing so, Piero sought to improve the standing of his own family, both domestically and abroad, at the expense of the Medici regime in Florence and the anti-French Italian League that the Medici supported. This article offers for the first time a full investigation of a surprisingly early example of tensions between the Medici and the Pazzi, tensions that famously erupted in the Pazzi Conspiracy of 1478.  相似文献

In 1806 more than two centuries of the republican form of government in the Northern Netherlands came to an end. For a long time, historiography had it that the Dutch were indifferent to the end of the Republic and the establishment of the Kingdom of Holland. The transformation was, however, a much more dynamic process than has been portrayed. King Louis Bonaparte had the difficult task of acquainting a republican people with monarchy. Even though republicanism had lost much of its appeal by 1806, and the usefulness of democratic institutions was put into question, many Batavians nourished anti-monarchism. The Dutch state was one of many European client states that began to experience tensions between the gains of the revolution and the Napoleonic Realpolitik that was geared towards limiting popular sovereignty and expanding the French Empire. Louis Bonaparte, and later the Restoration monarchs, tried to reconcile popular sovereignty and monarchic authority by propagating the constitutional monarchy as the ideal juste milieu (middle way) between extremes.  相似文献

Assembling 10 essays from around the globe which engage variously with the space in which food preparation occurs—the kitchen—revealed stunning diversity but also commonalities. In this first of two sets of theme papers on this vital but often unexamined domestic space, the discourse of modernity unites the look and use of twentieth-century kitchens in Australia, Britain and Finland. Imbued with notions of scientific management, the modern kitchen had some common designs which prescribed women's place within it—first as the main occupant and then as the family overseer. The construction of this semi-private space also involved particular domestic technologies which, as the new century dawns, now literally connect the kitchen to the world beyond via the internet fridge. This Introduction begins the two-part feast of gender, place and culture—with an overview of Australia and sketch of subsequent essays—Supski on mid-century migrant Australia, Saarikangas on Finland, Bennett on rural Britain and Watkins on the fridge.
