Abstract: | This article presents a combined architectural and archaeological account of a recently demolished sixteenth-century upland hallhouse, probably representative of a once-numerous class of peasant dwellings. Tyddyn Llwydion was a cruck-framed peasant hallhouse of longhouse type, that is, a dwelling distinguished by the small size of its open hall (a single bay), the absence of decoration, and the presence of a cow-house in the lower part of the range. |
