The Secret Society of Overseas Chinese in Southeast Asia in the 19th Century

Spread to Southeast Asia in the 17th Century, the secret society of Overseas Chinese reached its zenith in the 19th century. With the increase of its influence, the colonial governments changed their policies towards the secret society.This change,however,is adjusted according to what those governments needed. Being a social phenomenon,the secret society played an important role and its status was unique in the overseas Chinese community.
