A Comparison between the Sino-Soviet Treaty of Friendship and Alliance and the Sino-Soviet Treaty of Friendship,Alliance and Mutual Assistance

The Sino-Soviet Treaty of Friendship, Alliance and Mutual Assistance signed on 14 February 1950 was the first treaty with foreign countries after the founding of New China. The signing of this treaty signified a completely new type of relations between the People's Republic of China and the Soviet Union after the victory of the revolution and marked the beginning of a historical period of all-round cooperation between the two countries. A comparison of this treaty with the Sino-Soviet Treaty of Friendship and Alliance signed by the Soviet Union and the Kuomintang government on 14 August 1945 reveals that the former was a product of full consultation and positive dialogue with the stress on mutual assistance and cooperation as well as alliance.
