| Abstract: | Urban historical geography is one of the important branches of Historical Geography. Over the past 70 years, the study of urban historical geography in China has gone through the stages of foundation-laying and exploration, stagnation, recovery and expansion, deepening and integration. It has made considerable progress and fruitful achievements in expanding research contents, summarizing theories and methods, and exploring new technologies, which promoted the overall development of Historical Geography in China. Based on the representative research works in the field of urban historical geography in the past 70 years, this paper summarizes the stage characteristics of urban historical geography in China, discusses the research progress in nine major thematic areas, reflects on the related issues of urban historical geography,and looks forward to the future research trends. |
